Please revamp the difficulty so there will be re-playability

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 11:45 pm

- Iron Man, die once, and you must restart
- Carry only a reasonable amount of weapons (couple of pistols, and one/two two-handed weapons)
- Do not heal while your status is [DANGER], only when [CAUTION] or [HIDDEN]

...and there are many more.

I quite like the idea of not being allowed to jump to inventory while in the middle of combat - or maybe even during 'Caution'. You're not allowed to travel anywhere during 'Caution', so why are you allowed to chnage your clothes, pop a few pills and select a different weapon?

I have to admit to being slightly ashamed at those moments where I'm clearly getting my [censored] kicked, but it's ok - I can pause the fight, heal myself repeatedly, repair a weapon or some clothes, crack a beer and have a full on sh*t 'n shave before the poor bugger I'm fighting can get another shot off!

Oddly enough I buy the claim of "Killing Deathclaws with Maria". Just find a spot where it can't attack you and it's just a matter of ammo and gun CND. Hell, you can kill them with a BB gun under those rigged circumstances.

Exactly why i have the mod that removes the unmitigatable damage. I emptied a full minigun clip of 5mm rounds to a power armored soldier, he didn't give a [censored] :bolt:

I'll try to keep this short.
The game is too easy on top of being buggy. I've did two play throughs on hardest settings & hardcoe mode first one was much easier only because i ended up self-gimping myself to add more difficulty on my second play through by not using a companion and not using sniper rifle or Gobi, the game was still too too easy. hardcoe mode feels more like a hassle then anything else.

OK, so let me get this right. You say it's too easy after taking the very perks you need to make you more powerful? Maybe you could try using some self discipline for a start as opposed to demanding that the devs make it harder for you. I don't know, like maybe not take the powerful perks, use less powerful weapons, use lighter armor or clothing for a start? Maybe you're just an uber godlike gamer, but I felt going through scorpion gulch or through a Cazadore nest spawn at level 2 or 3 with a Varmint Rifle & 9mm pistol, leather armor only a handful of rounds and ammo was pretty tough. But then again, maybe I just svck.

Make it atleast "+5" and i'm in :D

+1 is already quite a bump in difficulty.
+2 is going to be even harder.
+3 would be kinda hard to play.

+5 though.... Erm... Iron Man? (All saves for that character removed if one dies with that character)

In that case that's too high, not something i'd ever do. Anyway even a "+1" would be a start.

And no, I don't believe for a minute that its possible to mow down Deathclaws with a 9mm pistol. But I'd sure love to see it, post it on YouTube and Ill watch with interest.

Coming up soon, hopefully today.

Aside from some changes to the underpowered energy weapons that they've already mentioned I don't think Obsidian should completely overhaul the difficulty. IMO Developers shouldn't change the gameplay significantly after release through patches, you're bound to step on people's toes.

But yeah it's rather easy. Hurray for mods.

Would be easy enough if they released new game-modes with each DLC though.

I remember people ripping into someone a few weeks ago who said the game was too easy on very hard/hardcoe. Now I see a lot more people complaining that it's too easy and if you have seen any of my posts you know I completely agree with them.

Maybe before you tell people not to take companions, not to take the million combat perks, not to raise agility, not to raise luck, not to raise perception, not to raise guns, not to take guns, not to use certain weapons, not to use certain armour, to play with your eyes closed, to do an iron man runthrough, to only carry one weapon with you, not use stimpaks and on and on, maybe before you suggest that you should stop and think that maybe this game really is too easy and WE as gamers shouldn't have to ruin our game experience by limiting ourselves from half of the game.

In my opinion some of the reasons why the game is so easy are:
1. Dumb A.I. I mean come on if you played more than an hour you know what I mean.
2. Weapon zoom. I can pick guys off from a mile away with a handgun. I decided to change Lucky's zoom from somewhere around 58 to 70 in the G.E.C.K. which gives it basically 0 zoom and you can still kill them a mile away.
3. Overpowered guns. The lowest level weapons are deadly against most enemies and that's just wrong.
4. Sneak and Criticals. Too much overkill.
5. Open spaces. The game is too wide open and not enough places to get cornered.
6. Lack of bugs. The glitches with the revolvers and lever action guns are the most difficult part of this game so why not throw more in there.

I would also like to note that my game crashes sometimes, I have graphical glitches, I have the reload bug and a few other problems and the difficulty of this game is the only thing I even complain about. I don't want to come off as someone who is always bashing this game because I'm not. I think this is a great game that needs a lot of work.

Read my post above yours. FNV is absolutely no challenge unless you intentionally make a terrible character. Surely thats a sign of bad balancing.
It's always just a matter of how willing one is to make it tough. Set the difficulty on max, don't enable perks (cheats) that weaken opponents or empower your character, wear a duster, stay away from the sniper rifle and heavy weapons, and you will not be able to beat the game, end of story.

Opening inventory every half an hour (<-- due to lack of keybinds since this game can only carry 7, lol) to eat a sandwich and to drink some H20 doesn't add to the immersion aspect of the game and does not effect the difficulty what so ever; stimpacks healing overtime was never really a issue since the difficulty of the game is too easy; i've taken maybe 10 stims at most while leveling to 30.
Please add another difficulty setting or change hardcoe mode by adding extra difficulty to the existing setting or both which will add 2 extra notches to the game difficulty.
Just as an example the last difficulty setting should reduce player's damage effectiveness by 50% across the board. I'm not the game developer, its your job to think of something up.
Maria (9mm handgun) + fast shot + 5000 caps to purchase 5,000 9mm bullets and just go to town w.o ever needing to use V.A.T.S. You will mow down deathclaws and everything that crosses your path, it ridiculously overpowered how a simplest and the first tier of weapons can get you to lvl 30 w.o any trouble. (Just an example of the lack of difficulty i'm receiving)

Last but not least, this does not pertain to the above rant. Please fix the bugs regarding the trait "Fast Shot" not allowing perks such as "Gun Slinger" "Commando" & "Sniper" to function.

Yeahhh, right. Find a new game.

At the end of the day, it is a single player game. Make it as hard or as difficult for yourself as you like.

I normally find a way to make character(s) overpowered in RPGs, but I also understand that not everybody finds combat in RPGs easy. I have a friend who plays on Normal/hardcoe who still finds deathclaws hard even though he's late into the game. It just didn't really occur to him that the All American with standard ammo just doesn't do enough damage against something with high DT. Some people, including some very smart ones, just don't think naturally in the same way that some of us min/max types do.

I'll admit that I'm curious how the original poster is killing deathclaws with a Maria. I get that it is possible to crit nearly half the time with that gun, so high base crit rate + Better Criticals makes for a fairly nasty weapon with anything that has a x2 or better crit modifier.....still seems pretty impressive to me though.

Having said that, I once cleared the Quarry on Very Hard/hardcoe at lvl 6. :P

I think the difficulty is just fine. I tried playing one time on Very Hard and just got fed up with it. I don't think it should take twenty rounds just to kill a Viper Gang Leader. A few - at most! - should do the job if you're aiming at the head.

And anyway, I question the veracity of the original post. I believe it about as much as I believe that somebody can hit level 30 halfway through the game.

I met the thing in Dead Wind Cavern on Level 24 and a fully modded Minigun with AP ammo. Poor thing didn't have a chance. If that was supposed the toughest enemy in the game...

You can hit level 30 halfway through the game though. Infact its hard not to hit level 30 halfway through if you are an avid quester.

This is the one criticism I didn't expect. FONV seems to be much more difficult than the last installment of the series. So what were people basing their expectations on? The games released a decade ago?

I don't get it.

I'm glad people are pointing out that this is a single player RPG.. so who will it hurt to add 2 additional notches to the difficulty setting, if you can't handle it then don't increase the difficulty. Is there some drawback by adding a option where player's damage is reduced by 50% across the board? like i said if its too hard for your RP'ing experience then don't use the new difficulty feature.
Also I finished frapsing the video of me wrecking havoc on deathclaws w. Maria, it includes all details in it which are difficulty setting, no usage of chems, and usage of regular ammo. Requested by popular demand & i'll provide the youtube link soon.

Rather than annoy a bunch of players with a useless option, why don't you just find another game, or be thankful with the one ya got? Wasting time isn't equal to hard, in my rule book.

Waste time elsewhere.

I agree with you that it shouldn't be 20 rounds to kill a Viper Gang Leader. When you didn't like very hard did you just go to a lower level? What are people supposed to do if they find very hard too easy? There are no more levels to go up. It's not about an ego boost playing on very hard. I don't care if they made a new level and called it the little baby whiner's level, I would still play it as long as it was a challenge. Just to clear things up a bit too, it takes maybe 3 or 4 headshots to kill a Viper Gang Leader on very hard. I don't think anyone is asking for this game to be over the top difficult. I think what we (at least I am) are asking for is a level that is over the top difficult. I know all people don't play these games for the combat, but all people don't play just for the story. In my almost 30 years of gaming I have never played a game like this that has been so easy on the hardest difficulty.

There must not be, since that option already exists: it's called "Very Hard." Player damage = 50%, enemy damage = 200%.

You know what he means.

Also I think the difficulty is just fine, personally I have no problems at all on very hard/hardcoe even if I gimp my character. But dare I say I believe the majority of people couldn't even play on very hard/hardcoe. So for the SMALL amount of diehard gamers, they could maybe add some sort of super duper hardcoe mode. I don't see how that could be a negative thing. However I think their focus is needed elsewhere at the moment. ( regarding bugs ).

Most people I know would find another game more to their liking and skill set. Or "self gimp" like I did with the very easy FO3.
