Please revamp the difficulty so there will be re-playability

Post » Tue May 10, 2011 5:18 pm

I'll try to keep this short.
The game is too easy on top of being buggy. I've did two play throughs on hardest settings & hardcoe mode first one was much easier only because i ended up self-gimping myself to add more difficulty on my second play through by not using a companion and not using sniper rifle or Gobi, the game was still too too easy. hardcoe mode feels more like a hassle then anything else. Opening inventory every half an hour (<-- due to lack of keybinds since this game can only carry 7, lol) to eat a sandwich and to drink some H20 doesn't add to the immersion aspect of the game and does not effect the difficulty what so ever; stimpacks healing overtime was never really a issue since the difficulty of the game is too easy; i've taken maybe 10 stims at most while leveling to 30.
Please add another difficulty setting or change hardcoe mode by adding extra difficulty to the existing setting or both which will add 2 extra notches to the game difficulty.
Just as an example the last difficulty setting should reduce player's damage effectiveness by 50% across the board. I'm not the game developer, its your job to think of something up.
Maria (9mm handgun) + fast shot + 5000 caps to purchase 5,000 9mm bullets and just go to town w.o ever needing to use V.A.T.S. You will mow down deathclaws and everything that crosses your path, it ridiculously overpowered how a simplest and the first tier of weapons can get you to lvl 30 w.o any trouble. (Just an example of the lack of difficulty i'm receiving)

Last but not least, this does not pertain to the above rant. Please fix the bugs regarding the trait "Fast Shot" not allowing perks such as "Gun Slinger" "Commando" & "Sniper" to function.

not sure if you're on a PC, but there are lots of mods to tweak combat and difficulty.

You might also enjoy downloading the GECK and creating your own mod with the specific changes you want to see.

I suspect you're not going to get a great deal of sympathy if you consider "not using the two most overpowered weapons in the game" (Sniper/Gobi) to be "self-gimping."

Have you, heaven forbid, considered taking off the +5 crit 1st Recon Beret? Wearing anything less than Combat Armor Reinforced Mk II?

Nevermind that I don't for a moment believe you were "mowing down" Deathclaws with Maria at max possible difficulty.

I think it's pretty stupid the player gets handed all kinds of OP items and the game is only challenging on hardest difficulty if you take them off. That doesn't really sound like a good game developer to me.

Everyone has their own view...I think it's stupid that some players use the overpowered items then scream about the "lack of difficulty" as if it's somehow surprising that a game will become easy if you apply yourself to finding the absolute maximum possible power level.

rpgs have always been about finding the maximum possible power level with what you're given. that's the whole damn point! self-gimping is fine, but we shouldn't HAVE to do it.

Do you want me to fraps it fraps & email it to you? Or go ahead and try it yourself, give youself fast shot + Better crits + maria via console.. aim & shoot, it doesn't take a month of research to come to a conclusion.
OR wait..... following your logic i bet picking up the talent better criticals is "stupid that some players use the overpowered perks" to put it in your very own words. Or is this a known common fact such as the views on sniper rifle & gobi that avoiding this perk is not considered self gimping?
Did i just blow your mind and leave you speechless using your narrow logic, awesome right? How about patch the game so there is no such thing as self gimping & actually make hardest difficulty, difficult.

Lol.. "everyone has their own vie...." Well its a a pretty pretty wide view viewed by majority of the players that play this game. I don't know where you draw the line between "opinions" and FACTS, but clearly your boundaries are wrong. As this game REQUIRES massive amounts of self gimping to receive any challenge. Or are you gonna dig up all the posts saying FNV IS TOO HARD, sarcasm....... as if those posts exist. But keep living in your dream lalala land of everybody has their views.

Link to where you polled "the majority of" this game's players, please? Some evidence, any evidence, that this "majority" claim can hold any more water than a typical sieve?

Out of everything i've replied to this is what you want to talk about? You want a poll? sure... The poll is located in this very own thread.

Is that good enough for a poll? You said it yourself. There are obvious things in this game that needs adjusting or a massive self gimping requirement for your character as hardest difficulty is too easy. Digging up your "evidence" straight from this very own post from your very own words.
Hey im killing deathclaws w. a Maria, what do you suggest i do there to further self-gimp myself?

You children quit arguing or I'm going to take away your toys.

Seriously, if you want to make it harder, do so. Take off your armor. Don't use the big guns. Sell your Stimpaks. The reason you may be required to nerf yourself a little bit is that this game was not designed just for you. It is designed so that everyone can jump in and play. Though I will admit that "everyone" shouldn't be playing hardcoe. Still, these things affect over all game design, I'm sure.

Adding more difficulty levels on the high end probably isn't going to be a priority considering that anyone playing on hardcoe/very hard should, by definition, be skilled enough to know how to make the game harder on themselves if it is still too easy. Though I wouldn't mid a bit if they added it as it won't affect me one bit.
Though it would drop the frequency of threads like this one.

FYI: You can quickly aquire the beret and then use it forever after without dragging a companion. "People in these forums... i tell you..."

I think the root of this is the broken "23% Base Critical" build, It does turn "Vary Hard" into "Very Easy". Now run with a 7% base critical chance and Maria will seem less godlike.

Nope. That's one person's view, which is what you started with: You claiming "the majority of players" found the game insanely easy. Still asking for any legitimate evidence to support your "majority of players" claim...and knowing full well it'll never happen.

Ah. Now here's the truth. RPG's have always, ALWAYS been about building yourself up to godmode. Be that party, or SP.

In reality, it's the Fallout system that is to blame, where you are not locked into a specific charcater or race (or alignment) at the start of the game.

Whether or not he has a source for his claims doesnt mean they arnt true. FNV is far too easy as a game. Players shouldnt have to ignore things that are in the game to keep any sort of challenge around. Unless someone is playing their first RPG ever I dont know how anyone could find FNV even remotely difficult.

You can make the game as difficult or as easy as you like depending on the perks and game choices you choose. That's the way it is with all RPG games, simple as that.

Read my post above yours. FNV is absolutely no challenge unless you intentionally make a terrible character. Surely thats a sign of bad balancing.

I prefer to look at it another way. FNV is all about factions and quest choices, not about combat. If you want combat, then go to F3 and alter the difficulty with as many mods you can stuff into your PC. FNV is all really about the choices you make and how they affect other factions and the world around you. Its not a combat oriented game, its more open ended and allows you to shape New Vegas however you like. The amount of enemies being significantly less than in F3 reflects this, I think.

And no, I don't believe for a minute that its possible to mow down Deathclaws with a 9mm pistol. But I'd sure love to see it, post it on YouTube and Ill watch with interest. :)

There are many threads like this, but for some ideas to increase the difficulty/realism, I would try -

- Iron Man, die once, and you must restart
- Carry only a reasonable amount of weapons (couple of pistols, and one/two two-handed weapons)
- Do not heal while your status is [DANGER], only when [CAUTION] or [HIDDEN]

...and there are many more.

I hate that in modern FPS'. In Doom you, and thankfully in Doom3 too, you were a walking arsenal, in "realistic" (massive sarcasm quotes) ones you're limited to a pistol and a main weapon. In New Vegas i currently have Bumper Sword, LMG, Avenger, Mercy, Annabelle and Anti-Materiel Rifle. Screw realism! :gun:

It is easy though, i think i'll test Arwen's Realism Tweaks mod (ironically :D) for my next character, until the hypothetical Fallout Courier's Edition is released ;)

82% of the folks that played this game do not think it's too easy. 92% of the folks that played this game while wearing a yellow shirt do not think it's too easy.

76% of the folks that read this thread do not think you are mowing down deathclaws with a 9 mm pistol. However, an overwhelming majority of those same folks were able to knock at least three deathclaws out by flinging poo at them.
