Please revamp the difficulty so there will be re-playability

After watching that. Disabling VATS by unbinding the "v" key would be a good place to start. Starting a new character that takes the "Trigger Discipline" trait and never touches any VATS perk is more reasonable. I'm running such a character now myself and only get 4 shots out of Maria in VATS. Won't even be gimping yourself as the VATS perks can be replaced with others that prove equally useful.

How does that relate to anything what? what? Why are you telling me to re-keybind my vats and to take different perks? Im is this topic called "tell me how to build your character"? Or are you just giving me a 101 rundown how to gimp characters more efficiently? Please tell.

That there's no point of having a SPECIAL higher than 7? You can use the SPECIAL-related speech challenges without having the extra benefits of the 3 additional points, thus making the game harder. Very little, though. I'm against self-gimping, but this IMO really doesn't count

I am not going to talk about this or explain why my SPECIALS are what they are, as you can see this is almost page 5 as some people are stubborn and keep on trolling on one basic principle, talking about SPECIALS and skill check challenges is something this thread is not about. What the hell, 10 endurance = all implants, 10 int = max skill points, now whether you want to go with 1 endurance and 1 int im not stopping you, cause this is not what i made this thread for.

Eh the video doesn't show me anything, you still almost died, if you hadn't gotten that last lucky shot to cripple his leg in VATS you'd be meat. So yeah it didn't seem quite as easy as you claimed

Ya i kind of had to fight two of them back to back w.o having full AP for the second deathclaw, i took 1 hit.. whatever i was too lazy to re-fraps. Its indeed pretty easy as whats in the video is not difficult at all and doesn't require special skill to perform.

The first thing I noticed about the video was the big dummy on the right running to where you shot instead of running at you with the other guy.

Starting a new character that takes the "Trigger Discipline" trait and never touches any VATS perk is more reasonable.

I almost never use VATS unless desperately mobbed (very rare in this game) and ignore all such perks so I have hardly any AP anyway. I could list the whole litany of extreme self-gimping I've done, but won't bother. Doing such things helps/works great for those first 5-10 levels, but there is still always this point, before very long, where combat stops feeling scary at all. Lucky for me, I greatly enjoy watching companions fight, so now that's where I get my kicks & enjoyment.. :)

and more enemies in the wasteland would make a smarter increase in diffculty.

I'd love a mod that added larger clusters of enemies + some random spawns here and there.
For myself, I'm not saying that upon replays the entire game/every fight is super-easy on VH, it's just that there isn't enough overall combat difficulty for my tastes. I want more than a couple (non-respawning) deathclaw & clustered caza locations...

Interesting vid. Your video does tend to support your argument that the game is too easy once you get to higher levels and becomes even easier when you take certain perks. That being said at lower levels the game is much more difficult when you try to take on deathclaws and such. The point that its only soooo easy for you because your at max level does not hold much weight (even though I brought it up :touched:), in my opinion, by the simple fact the game developers could have added a difficulty beyond "very hard" like "insane" or something.

In short I think you shouldn't have to self gimp yourself and they really should have added another difficulty for those to choose who find the game still very easy on "very hard" mode. So, your right.

No, I said, "Ditch the VATS I-Win button". If you want more challenge in your game you're just going to need to part with your "I-Win" button. Free-Aim with a player view kill cam is extremely powerful even with lesser weapons. You're not gimping yourself in the slightest going down that road.

Exactly. There are a ton of character builds you can do. Making a VATS combat moster character and then complaining the combat is too easy makes no sense. I'm on my first playthrough of New Vegas, and am only on normal, but passed on better criticals, grim reaper sprint, Action girl etc in faver of other perks.

All that said, maybe this game could do with an "Insane" level like Doom II. I'm just grateful it's harder than FO3.

If you want a challenge then play the game on very hard/hardcoe without ever using stimpacks and only eat or sleep when necessary. If your character dies then game over, delete and restart the game.

Problem solved.

Maybe something like a custom difficulty would be an idea? Where you move sliders along for your damage and enemy damage, from like 1% to 500%? I remember the old days of Goldeneye had something like this when you finished the game. you could make it so 1 bullet from an enemy 9mm would instantly kill you lol.
It would be nice to have a list of options to fine tune it exactly how you want it like not letting you use your pip boy in danger mode, things to discourage stimpacks like addiction or temporary SPECIAL loss? Removing certain parts of the HUD, i know you can make it invisible now, but its hard picking things up and working out if a door needs a key or a certain lockpick level etc.

Thank you for the video, I enjoyed it :)

Adding another notch to the difficulty slider wouldn't affect my game so go for it, this is certainly a better option than forcing everyone to endure ott level scaling or blatant bullet sponge effect. As a percentage of hit points, doubling the damage enemies can inflict is exactly the same as halving character HP by reducing character endurance, though I admit the latter may not feel quite the same.

I'm personally very happy the game supports numerous character builds. I'm also very happy with Iron Sights so no VATs but this is my choice and it is a choice I'm happy to have :)

If I want difficulty I’ll change my one year olds diaper. I play FO because I wanna have fun.

There will always be a few players who want a sadistic lvl of difficulty, and if that’s you, cool. Play on the pc so you can use mods. Or, play till you die once and start a new character.

The person that made the video:

Try to remove the aim assist reticule, and I noticed your purchased the sub-dermal armor, so you definitely could CHOOSE to not buy that next time. Also, that was a lot of bullets used, AND, you were fighting intelligently, staying far enough away so it won't run up quickly, and then you crippled his leg, so it looks like the game IS difficult, but you just so happen to kick ass at the game.

Pssst- uber-leet Min-Maxers expecting a game tailored to "all audiences" to cater to their leet, mad pwning skillz.

This! Oh... you forgot ego strokes.

Seriously, I have no problem with adding another level or two of difficulty that you can ask for once you have selected "hardcoe" mode (to weed out the oops factor of the newbs). If that is what you need to have fun, fine. Don't rain on my "normal" role playing mode and I won't care even the tiniest bit how hard you take it.

In other news: To the poster who found Dead Wind cavern too easy while using a Fully Modded Minigun with AP ammo. Well, um... you did walk in there with just about the most over powered gun in existence... I would have been most upset if it didn't... well, kill things.

When you know all the ins and outs of the game, from smart character creation and perk picking to where all the good weapons and armor are, of course the game is going to seem easy.

I must be terrible at this game, because the Legate and his boys tore me apart about 8 times on Medium before I gave up and dropped the difficulty level just so I could finally see the ending. I guess they could just add more and more difficulty levels for people like yourself who are really good at the game, but I wouldn't want to see any of the existing difficulty levels touched. And as other people have mentioned, you can't really say "Oh I used all the best items and perks, where's the challenge?", that's like someone fighting a baby with a sledgehammer and then claiming "well that was too simple". It's not "self-gimping", it's "role-playing". Play the role of an average wastelander wearing nothing more than, say, a Wastelander Surgeon's outfit, carrying a 10mm gun. If that's not challenging for you, well, you're the best.

Well here it is.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lwfHhKthJ_I as request.

Impressive stuff, you were as good as your word. I guess if you are a safe enough distance away, its possible to beat them with any ranged weapon. Just aim for the legs. Nice outfit as well, though it doesn't offer much damage protection. :)

For your next challenge - try it again, but using just a rolling pin. ^_^

 I suppose so, i just expected the place with most dangerous enemies and the most powerful creature in the game to be challenging even with proper preparation. And it was just a Minigun, not the Avenger. Well, atleast the "final boss" wasn't a complete pushover, even with Avenger with AP ammo and APA.

I get your point.

Personally, I have died at the "hands" of quite a few deathclaws, cazadores, radscorpions ...and once, even a fire gecko (when i had forgotten to heal from an earlier fight) so I don' t think the game is TOO easy. Having said that, I do believe that there should be a few over the top enemies around the edges of the map just for something to fling yourself at once in a while if only to see if you can survive (i.e. Crawmerax from Borderlands). Beyond that, I'm here for adventure and not big game hunting.

Having seen all of the main endings already I am now doing some serious role playing that would fail utterly if the enemies were any harder than they are now. The next is going to be an old man scavenger. Intelligent and charismatic but with very limited strength/agility ... i.e. unable to effectively manage any weapon over 3lbs. You can bet that he won't be going after deathclaws.

This. I don't think anyone with Arwen's Realism Tweaks (when it is finished) will complain about the game being too easy. :P

Plus he chose (no one forced him) some of the combat and vats enhancing perks. I don't have any vats perk and do not have better criticals.

This morning I tried what was done on that video set on NORMAL (my guns is 95), using a light machine gun and wearing NCR ranger armor. I absolutley unloaded a hail of bullets into that death claw and also had Cass shooting at it. That SOB killed us both. Had to reload and take Buffout, Jet, Med X, Psycho and whiskey (for charisma to help Cass). Finally killed the svcker.......then two more Death Claws showed up.

Fail.

As its been said many a time.. people shouldnt have to intentionally gimp themselves for the game to retain any kind of challenge. The current difficulty scaling simply isnt done well enough. Whether you are playing on Very Easy or Very Hard the difficulty starts plummeting from the get go. Merely giving a modifier to damage done and recieved is a lazy way of handling difficulty. More changes need to happen like Chem and Med weight being added and heal over time stacking being nerfed in hardcoe.

Ive no problem with the game being easy with a min/max character but for FNV to be challenging you have to intentionally make a terrible character.

I'm kinda confused like others. I've done something very similar that was on the video. Now I did have combat armor on and I had other weapons. At the time I had veronica and ed-e.

I had 2 full grown death claws coming at me because ed-e decided they were to close and shot at them.

I tried to head shot them , but I kept getting that stupid shield no matter what weapon I used. Which meant my damage wasn't getting through. after veronica went down. I started shooting with maria(sp?) with normal rounds. It was like I was using a BB gun on them every shot I got that red shield would pop up and I would die a horrible death.

Now I didn't have the OP's character build and I was I think level 13 or 14, I was also playing on normal. I still to date have never used any special ammo except coin shot. I think the OP's found that sweat spot for a good character build.

Now the OP can correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm sure like others he planned out his character and built it a certain way. I have never done that I just pick whatever seems good. I really have never seen a need to take action boy/girl simply because I very rarely use vats. Only time I use vats it to check who I am attacking.

Hehe if you want a challenge try a unarmed/melee character build only.

I mean anyone can kill things with guns and explosives try a baseball bat or your fists and leave the guns at home ;)

You want a more challenging very hard and hardcoe playthrough? Don't choose and perks and skills that specifically increase weapons damage combat survivability. The GECK is fairly easy to use . You can easily use it do boost enemy damage and armor. Nothing is wrong with "self-gimping".
