No point to Dragon Armor

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 2:12 pm

I finally got my smithing to level 100, spent a perk point on dragon armor smithing and now I wish I hadn't. I should have stopped at level 90 smithing, Daedric armor (AND weapons)... Daedric armor has a better armor rating than

dragonplate. And fully upgraded, the Daedric armor rating is multiplied and the stats are even better than Dragonplate.

My character is using heavy armor, so I instinctively thought dragon armour would be better than daedric. With daedric you can get it at level 90 -but dragon is all the way at 100... And dragon armor is useless. Why????? What is the

point of it? why would anyone wear it???

I can understand for light armor users, but for heavy armor you should skip it. Daedric looks better too. dragonplate armor in my opinion is the least visually appealing armor in the entire game. I was happier with my characters

appearance when he was wearing hide armor rather than dragonplate.

And one other thing.... You don't get new weapons to forge with the dragon smithing perk!!! it's just uglier/worse armor.

Can anyone tell me a reason why dragonplate armor isn't completely useless and a waste of time???

Because this is a RPG and your character is the "Dragonborn" so you want dragon armor? Stop being so damn shallow and MMOish, if you don't like the way it looks who cares, someone else does. A few points more of armor is meaningless anyway and dragon armor is a lot easier to get the materials to make.

Dragon armor is the most easy to make armor in the game.

It probably shouldn't even be 100 points to craft, you can start getting materials for it at like level 3.

Hooray for pressing the Enter button at random points. This isn't World of Warcraft, stop gawping at the stats and enjoy the game.

If all you care about are stats, then yes, you are correct. However, if you forget about stats and remember that this is a single player game of amazing depth, you'll realize that the difference is negligible at best. I am 34 and crafted a daedric set only to decide I liked my dragonbone armor better. My daedric set is currently sitting under what is by now a substantial layer of dust.

Not everything in this game is made to be "better". Sometimes the only point is the lore, or to personalize your character. I wield dawnbreaker. Sure, it's not as good as my fully upgraded and enchanted skyforge steal sword but who cares? I enjoy wielding a weapon specifically crafted for fighting undead.

Relax and stop thinking "upgrade" whenever you see a perk or item. Instead, think "what would my character use" and I promise you will enjoy Skyrim a lot more. If not, maybe you're better suited to games like WoW where people verbally crucify you for 1 wrong gem or talent point.

The armor rating is irrelevent since armor rating has a cap.

So it's purely down to aesthetics, I prefer Dragonplate personally, I like wearing my prey.

I'm actually happy it's there. Once I decided to get my smithing to 100 I couldn't be bothered to get all the daedra hearts and ebony ingots to make the daedric armour. I had all the ingredients for dragon armour, so I just made that. By the time I get my heavy armour skill a bit higher and invest another perk in it I'll probably reach the armour cap with it too.

Dragon can be either heavy or light. Some people like the look. It can reach the armor cap, so Daedric really isn't that superior.

Personally, I'm a fan of Daedric. But instead of blinding throwing perks around, maybe you should've researched dragon armor a bit first? You obviously know how to use the internet.

Also, the dragon smithing perk is far from useless. The light armor version, dragonscale, is actually the best light armor in the game stat-wise.

Love when isee people saying this. I made both sets of armour and yea deadric has more raw armour points than dragonplate, each peice has maybe 5 points more armour.

Stop just looking at just stats and think about the way it looks.

I love the way daedric looks always have in each tes game but now that im doing the main quest I wear full dragonplate because I feel its more fitting if the dragonborn wears armour made from slain dragons. I notice no difference between the two sets as far as how much damage I take.

I think its hilarious how everyone's mad at the OP for wanting armor that y'know, benefits him. I'm sorry, what are we wearing armor again for? I mean, I know I wear it for stats and look. If it looks good, cool but I play the game in first person so I'm barely seeing it anyway. I'd rather have armor that's going to help me survive than make me look like the prettiest pony in the show. Unless you play in 3rd person the entire time, I think it's pretty dumb to want armor for only looks. Stupid.

Anyway, I don't even bother with the dragon armor...I'm just going to wear my nightengale stuff, though I do switch between guild masters stuff too when Im doing certain things.

Oh really? What exactly is this cap and how does it affect the overall defense of the armor? Because from my understanding, better armor=better armor. If the armor is indeed capped, there is no point in ever upgrading. I might as well run around in a set of Legendary Iron armor if a set of Legendary Orcish armor is capped to the same defense.

For all of you who say, it's irrelevant, it's an rpg, it's all about immersion, or this isn't wow. To all of you, that's your own damn opinion. Personally I'm going to get and wear what has the best "stats", period. As a smith that means I'm going to wear whatever I can craft that provides me with the best defense, I personally do not give a [censored] how it looks. I don't have to look at it in game, as such one would expect the top tier crafted armor to be well... top tier. Dragonborn or not, if deadric armor provides me with the best defensive capabilities. That's what I'm wearing, there is no need for me to even look to the last perk. I understand you can get dragon scales and bones at a very early level. But you can go out and buy high level ore/ingots from smiths at the same low levels. So really when you obtain the materials is quite irrelevant.

Logically speaking, the last level of craftable goods should be the "best" per stats. It makes no sense for the teir before to be better, no matter how you want to justify it. It's re-tar-ded. Also if your other point is, you should choose based on what you like. Aesthetically. You should be able to add accents or customize armor. Maybe you want to wear a set of Iron armor that looks like deadric armor made out of Iron not Ebony, obviously you can't do this although it would be kind of neat. But seriously, level 10 armor and weapons should be stronger than level 9. That's just how it goes.

I agree about the whole role play aspect of things and personally don't mind the look of the dragon armor at all, especially the light armor. Still, I can see one point in that it does kind of seem to not follow the logical progression of the other armor sets, as each previous tier of armor smithing perks gives you progressively better armor stats wise. To me though, the reason behind making the dragon stuff a 100 perk really was from both a role play standpoint, and the fact that you can finally make actual use out of all those dragon bones and scales. I would liked to have seen some dragonbone weapons though.

IIRC armor rating is capped at 675. You won't reach that without extensive enchanting, perks, and/or high-tier armor. With Daedric and Dragon, both can hit that cap one way or another.

I have to admit I was puzzled by this as well. So, I thought that perhaps the Dragon Armor has hidden bonuses to resistances or something. Perhaps that is true, perhaps it isn't. But as I said, I was puzzled by this too.

That's correct, with a combination of perks you can reach that in just about any armor type depending on what you do (heavy/light armor perks and enchanting/smithing/alchemy perks/cross-crafting).

Eh... I may just stay in Dwarven armor then, with the Ancient Knowledge perk and all relevant heavy armor perks the armor rating would be about that... Well maybe a little less, but close. I can understand capping something in mmo's, but this is a console. How are you going to gimp me because I got too good? What kind of [censored] is that?
