Oh no, Achievements

I personally enjoy the achievements (XBox 360). I don't even go in and read the list prior to playing, I'm just amused when they pop up from time to time.

I don't think they add very much to the experience, but I don't think they take away from it either.

personally i think theyre not only stupid...but somewhat insulting.

why on earth do i need an achievement telling me i completed a quest? especially main plot quests. the notification in game is enough.

an "achievement" is something you accomplish thats difficult...following the main plot is what you are supposed to do, theres no reason to have an achievement for it.

they are just stupid little nothing things for console kiddies to collect.

i dont need them and i dont want them. id be surprised if anyone over age 11 even looks at them.

having them in a game like fallout cheapens the experience.

I have no issue with achievements themselves. I don't understand why some people obsess over them though. 90% of the time, acheivements are filler gameplay. They make you do a task which without the achievement you would never do because the task usually either boring in general or so repetitive and time consuming, you need to turn your brain off in order to do it.

There are some ok achievements out there, but they are normally nothing more than filler gameplay to me. It does worry me that most developers are now forced into a situation to create achievements for their game (instead of fixing bugs or other development issues), whether they want them in the game or not. Until the community sees achievements for what they really are (filler gameplay), it won't change.
