Caravan - worthless.
Gambling - worthless.
Casinos as a whole - worthless.I turn NCR/Legion money into chips, then cash out into caps at the cashier, nothing else.
Crafting - worthless.
Mojave Express boxes - worthless. Fill up the companions then myself and then fast travel to base.
Chems - worthless.

Iron sights. ~Can't say that I have never used them, but I usually don't.

The Mailboxes ~Can't bring myself entertain the notion of them.

I tried Caravan... it's too confusing to me. I've read some guides to it several times and it still boggles my mind.

I play it. I like it. That said … never has an easier game been more confusing to learn. This is in no small part due to imprecise pc controls and lack of clear cut instructions.

150 hours in second play through:

Don’t use drop boxes
Other than the two for radiation and stimpaks, no drugs
Various weapons have gone unused/undiscovered
No ammo crafting, cooking, campfires, or use anything that’s not ready to go
Never thrown anything but a grenade
Skipped various side tasks/quests that are clearly: run here, do this, run back, now run somewhere else …
Never eat or drink (sleep a great deal though)
Have not recruited all the companions
Haven’t called for help on the NCR radio
Had no use for Powder Gangers except as target practice
Won’t shoot first if I have high enough speech to resolve something peacefully
(Powder Gangers excepted) I never damage my reputation with a faction before getting close to the end game

And : rarely use melee weapons, energy weapons or fast travel

Chems - worthless.

I actually use chems a lot in hardcoe Mode.

About fast travel breaking game immersion? Fast travel is very convenient but I like to set limits on how often I use it, atleast with regards to traveling to my room in Novac. It just feels ridiculous making frequent trips to Novac after every "dungeon dive", particularly when I'm at the other end of the map, and I found Mojave Express boxes helpful in getting rid of loot without traveling to Novac.

thats a very good idea i might just start doing that :)

Gambling, did it a few times just for the achievements and when I tried to break the bank but got fed up up of low payouts on Black Jack.

Caravan, I won 3 games, just enough for the achievement I lost a few too. I didn't really understand it and I still kinda don't seems I win by just getting the other guy to run out of cards and trying to keep my caravan between 21-26. The directions on how to play were not very clear.

Mojave Express Boxes, rather useless. I just carry my gear with me and eventually make my way to my drop off point.

Faction armor, grants awful DT and I have found it doesn't work at times. I use it on Aba Daba Honeymoon.

.22 caliber weapons, seem pointless to use the silenced .22 SMG the .22 pistol is good for a holdout weapon but I only used it on Benny. I guess they might be ok with a sneak character.

Survival skill, useless really. Comes in handy for hardcoe, when you need food and have lots of Gecko or Bighorner meat. But not really worth leveling up as it doesn't have many dialogue options. And fetching the necessary ingredients for some consumables took more time to do then just finding a merchant with the same items you needed. Like making cactus water, you need 3 prickly pears, 1 empty soda bottle. It only makes 1 bottle of purified water. And I found more empty nuka bottles than I did soda bottles. Mass purified water was bad too I've yet to find enough dirty waters to do it, to many merchants have large stocks of pure water...Camp McCarran comes to mind here.

Turbo, cool idea but a useless drug....not much more to say here

Healing powder, has little affect compared to a stimpak and does -2 to PER.

Crafting super stimpaks, always find more than I need.

Time bomb, utterly useless. It being timed makes it difficult to blow up death claws with. Good for one quest though as it's inexpensive compared to C4

Powder charge, why not just use frag mines? Or C4?

Tanning hides, cool idea for money but doesn't pay out much compared to repairing and selling enemies weapons.

Centaur blood, good for caps but collecting it can be tedious compared to pre-war money or Cigg packs and cartons. I also don't understand why merchants would buy it..maybe doctors or scientists. But I don't know what Cliff Briscoe or Vendertron are going to do with Centaur blood.

Lol...sorry for this LONG list, but there are a lot of odd and/or useless items and weapons that were added.

The game is simple, the controls are not, on PC you have to use arrow keys to select cards.

Purchase a X Box 360 controller....I play with one and it is the [censored]....I can still use my Keyboard if I really wanted too....But it is hard to beat playing with a XBOX360 Controller

Never kept Arcade Gammon for longer than to recruit him once, I like Chuck the series and listening to Zach levy's voice all mature makes my head spin. :ahhh:
Side with the legion, I've killed so many NCR troops but just can't stand the legion.
Side against the Khans, FREEDOM.

I've thought of a controller as unless I whack the mouse sensetivity up, the service rifle fires slower than a varmit rifle.
Does the weapon slow fire for anyone else, even with Fast shot, and the upgraded springs?

Caravan- makes sense to me that Obsidian would do that, they did it in KOTOR 2 with Pazaak

Mojave Express Post Boxes- Don't see a point...

Siding with Legion- Why would I want to enslave people? But I do admire Caesar's ideology with "Back in the Kitchen!" LOL

Barter Skill- Why would I waste points to get better prices?

Sneak Skill- Sneaking is SUPER easy already

Campfires- Why do I need to craft food when I can buy it?

Reloading Bench- The ammo crafting in this game is TERRIBLE, I need craploads of stuff to make one bullet. And the only way to get the craploads of stuff to make that bullet, I have to take apart a bullet that's almost the exact same.

Workbench- Not very useful. Only good for recycling energy ammo.

Killing the BoS- Why?! They gave me Power Armor Training and they STILL give me free ammo!

Help Poweder Gangers- they are pathetic.

Use VATS- in Fallout 3, you needed it because the aiming in that game svcked, but with Ironsights in FNV, it kinda svcks.

Science skill- The hacking Mini-game takes too long, ruins the sense of action, as it also stops time. (wish time stopped when I go on the computer)

Explosives- Kinda pointless, explosives aren't very useful. But if you could blow the locks off doors with them, THAT would be awesome!

EDIT: Forgot some stuff:

Gambling- I also use only 1 Luck

Pick Pocketing- really lame

Companions- I'm always too lazy, I just pick up Veronica. BUT, I just got Cass, might actually use them this time.
Yep, alot of unused stuff.

Legion - Dunno why you choose to avoid a main quest line which could give you more playtime.

Barter - Useful when you're explosives character and the perks can be real good as well.

Reloading Bench - Erm... Buy a lot of bullets from something, disassemble them at reload bench, buy casings from Gun Runners to the ammo type you want to create, done. Not that hard to do really. I mostly don't care about the numbers, I just buy ammo I don't use that is cheap and take it apart and buy casings for the ammo I do use.

BOS - Kinda spoiler warning... Anyway, it's in the questline.

Help Powder Gangers - Roleplay?

Explosives - I'm actually playing an Explosives character right now and it's fun, hard in the beginning when you have to conserve ammo but it gets a little more balanced later on. And again, dunno why you choose to avoid it, pick Explosives as the only combat skill and you'll net another 30 to 70 hours from the game.

-Never played on casual mode (or whatever it is called, the not hardcoe mode)

-Never used "Big guns" Grenade machine gun, rocket launcher, etc.

-Never used Normal EW only the tesla cannon and that one gun that insta-kills Robots

-Never won money at Roulette, even with a luck of ten.(I gambled a lot so luck is important. Hey the gunrunners are pricey!)

-Never used a stimpack. Doctors, Doctor Bags, Sunset Sarsprilla and Nuka Cola works wonders on shrapnel, gunshot wounds, and lacerations! Those ads don't lie.

-Never took Raul With me. Set him free and all that. Same with Tabitha and Boone. Boone's" I hate Anything Legion attitude" is far to extreme for my Character who likes to sway the outcome of things through subterfuge.

-Other than those i can't think of what I havent done. Went for 100% as best i could on my first run.

-Special ammo is awesome by the way. I was able to completely convert 12 Gauge Buck into Magnum shot. 5mm can be changed into 5.56mm for that oh so smexy Marksman Carbine.

Edit- Yay my first post!

I get the feeling that most of the features people dont use are in place to aid players using hardcoe mode. Ammo recycling, mailboxes, crafting, cooking, etc are all very helpful when you cant carry all that much and you need to constantly eat/drink.

Other than that, people are just listing faction choices and quest avoidance, not really features.

Oh, but gambling is legit. Its not *useless* but its avoidable.
