Again did you even read my post? Only reason the NCR doesn't do anything is because it's a game mechanic is that too hard to figure out? The ending wait for the trigger from the courier if this is a real situation the Factions wouldn't be sitting around waiting for some magical courier to save the day. Hell if we're talking game mechanics guess what nothing would happen because no one does jack [censored] without the courier so then no one would win ever because no one started the game.
Edit anyways I'm done not going to discuss this if people just skim my posts and don't actually take the time to read what I wrote, plus like gabe said it has been discussed to death and not really in the mood to do it all over agian. Anyways have fun being blind to gameplay.
Just because a group CAN do something doesn't meen they WILL. Saying and doing are two different things, and the worst thing that good can do in the face of evil is not take action.
But look, what is a game other than an interactive story book? The developers have given us a setting, a protagonist, an antagonist (Ulysses or in most playthroughs, the Legion) a storyline, a story arch, a climix....
As I said the last time this thread topic was posted, who here reads Romeo and Juliet and, after reading the ending, decides that Romeo didn't actually die from the poison, and after he awoke, mourned Juliet's death briefly and went on to found the first Montague Space Flight Program? Nobody does that, because it's completely illogical with what evidence the story itself has provided us. There are NO hints saying that Romeo survived and no form of hint or foreshadowing suggesting he would meet a different fate.
It's the same thing here. Time and time and time again, the game gives us hints that tell us that the Legion is organized and has their [censored] together, while the NCR is corrupt and unorganized. We know Benny would be caught by the Legion. We know Mr. House would be stuck in the Lucky 38, and would run into the issue of having to find someone who could do everything the Courier can AND get the proper attention of the Legion; keep in mind the Courier's replacement would not only have to be capable of doing all the work, but he'd have to make a good impression with the Legion to have the opportunity to act.
The Legion however is organized. The Second Battle at Hoover Dam with a Legion playthrough is easy as cake. Both sides of the President's arrival at Hoover Dam show us that the Legion WOULD be able to replace the Courier for that job, and the NCR WOULD fail to protect the President. The Legion isn't neccesarily incapable of taking Forlorn Hope (we don't know because they haven't tried), but the NCR can't take Nelson. The Legion advances throughout the player's gameplay (Nipton, Ranger Station Charlie, Camp Searchlight) whereas the NCR captures nothing. The NCR's most powerful military force, the Rangers, is led by an old man who seeks to sabotage the NCR's occupation of the Mojave, a plan that he's willing to die for, along with his Rangers.
If we were to look at the game as a work of literature, it heavily,
HEAVILY implies that the Legion would win. It would be completely anti-climactic for everything leading up to the Second Battle to suggest the Legion's victory, and then for anyone else to win with ease.
