What does exactly mean "dumbed down"?

Try playing pure destruction mage up to the 70s and 80s. Come back and tell me the game's balanced.

The game favors stealth, because stealth damage has so many multipliers. If you try playing a non-stealthy archer, you're going to have a much harder time doing everything than an archer who sneaks around and gets critical hits.

I believe the highest mob level is 50.
Kindly define pure destruction mage.
Do you use no other skills magic or otherwise.
If you mean you use only one skill I believe even melee chars would have difficulty using that strategy

On the discussion of "dumbing down" as falmer stated, (and I have, repeatedly, like a goose) is when you remove the functionality of something and do not replace/improve it, ON THE PREMISE, that somehow players can't figure it out, or its too "spreadsheety" because thats where dumbing down came from. the moment Todd called making spells or handling attributes spreadsheety of which why they were handled that way was NO fault of their own but level scaling. is where the term dumbed down came from.

Can I...atler my chars strenghts, weaknesses...make them faster than anyone else? jump higher? Punch harder? since everyones unarmedmeleedamage = the same base value.

can I make my own spells tailored to MY playstyle and situations MY character gets into?

can I play the game without requiring the Quest markers in every shape and form? read that again WITHOUT REQUIRING THE QUEST MARKERS as in besides the HANDFUL if even amount of quests where your pointed to where you need to go (once) or you follow the quest giver (like 5-6?) you can RELIABLY get somewhere based on directions? oh no?

what do we call this? because apparently its not "dumbing down"

in response to Nazzeh

but I do, does that mean I deserve to be put at the stake? does that mean I'm self entitled whiny nut that needs to sit down? does that mean that anything I have to say is utterly and completely moot even though what I am asking for HAS BEEN DONE already in Past games? that because I desire the options I had before no I don't want them EXACTLY as they were before beacuse much of them were flawed, but is it because I want them back and Improved I am somehow an abomination?

On a different note.

I felt from Daggerfall to Morrowind to Oblivion was a complexity step down each iteration, but Oblivion to Skyrim was a complexity step up(Despite the loss of stats and spellmaking).

I'd still say Skyrim is a good deal less complex than morrowind/daggerfall

I think I lost my [insert item here] in Halefrost Caves. Could you go search for it for me?

The item you are looking for is in Halefrost Caves, under this rock right here. Hold on a sec while I draw an extremely detailed map from memory of what the caves interior structure consists of. I've marked an x on the very rock you need to look under.

I need you to meet with the courier on the long road. Hold on a second while I establish a psychic link with his mind for you. You should know exactly where he is at all hours of the day. Good luck!

Compare with

I lost my sword in Halefrost Caves. I can mark it for you on your map. I think I was near the back end of the cave when I dropped it.

I need you to meet with a courier. He'll be on the Long Road, and probably stop off at the lucky septim inn located here on your map. If you miss him there he's scheduled to stop in Markarth at the courier office.

I actually agree with you on the cave point.I would rather they did'nt use the quest marker in that instance.
As to the courier I would hate to see the written directions for that one

Something like the travelling person in Oblivion for the DB quest.(You're given his schedule, but the quest pointer makes it moot anyways)

On Morndas the courier will be travelling from Whiterun to Windhelm. He will make a stop at [inn name] until fridas and then continue on to windhelm.

Same here. There are probably a lot of ways to do it but I'd be inclined to get limited information from an initial NPC that would point you in the general direction. While you are able to refer back to the dialogue in your game menu later to remind you of what you've been told. There would be variation. Certain quests the person giving you information, or the book you are reading, whatever you are getting the directions from would in some cases be more accurate, in others less. And like systems already in place in NPCs, picking up on pieces of dialogue, talking to others, etc could lead you to more information than someone who just uses the initial more obvious information provider.
