While that may be true, it is also true that not all advertising is equally misleading. Some are more misleading than others.

There`s a common logic (at least in Britain) that if an advert is obviously over-the-top and silly in a joke way then it is considered ok since the advert is playing its product on humour and not on what it really does...

But if an advert (for the ordinary person) seems serious or it`s difficult to tell whether it`s part of the final product , while it tells us it is better than it is, then it is misleading because it`s not clear to the potential buyer what they are getting.

I also agree with Mirari that it is not corect to lie just because `everyone else does it`. This is a very dodgy road to go down. It is right to stand and say something is wrong if it IS wrong even if everyone else is doing it.

Many companies will try and push `little white lies` in an advert and if they can get away with false advertsing THEY WILL DO IT. This is why we need advert Watchdogs constantly and people should always say if something is misleading. That`s how we keep companies honest.
