Skyrim world is very small!

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 11:37 am

The gameworld of Skyrim is actually bigger than Morrowind's. I shall now enjoy being attacked by the angers.
I will gladly stand by your side Shield-Brother so that the world will naver overwhelm us.

Seriously though, it is a pretty big gameworld with many details and places to discover, but it can feel a bit small if one uses fast travel alot or sprint with a horse everywhere.

I dont want random generated land, although i do think that Skyrims gameworld is too small.

The forests are not very dense or lush, and they dont really cover a big area. Its just trees dotted around the land. You cant really get lost in a forest. Locations are too close to eachother. You cant really walk in the wild without seing caves, ruins, groves too close to eachother. Sometimes I actually avoid these locations when I see them on the compass. When you walk in the wilderness, it doesnt really feel like you are travelling. A walk from Whiterun to Solitude doesnt really take that long.

So for the next game, I want it to be just 2x the size of Skyrim.

Exactly what I have spoken of before the game came out. With so much variation in terrain, each terrain would feel small, therefore making the whole world appear small.

And, being able to see Whiterun from a distance you shouldn't just sort of takes me out of the game.

I dunno. It took me about 200 hours to go through the whole thing. That seems pretty big to me.

I'm surprised, I thought Skyrim's landmass was significantly larger then Oblivion's. The mountains most likely made the game look larger, not bad thing thou. The amount of time and effort put in Skyrim's terrain seems very significant when you compare it to Oblivion's. I'm not saying Oblivion isn't beautiful I just think Skyrim's world was better crafted and cared for.

Agreed the way Morrowind and Skyrim were crafted is far better than the design of Oblivion, that was one if the the games two biggest weaknesses along with its horrid level scaling.

Funny peeps still think the Mountains without paths...hark anything other than the Paths on the mountains themselves is considered playable space :teehee: beautiful eye-candy most definite. playable...not so much, and all that Vertical space jazz is PR talk, and hasn't change since the announcement of the game ;p

Oblivion wasn't Handcrafted so lets not apply statements that were never true, one of the PR talk about Oblivion was how the program they used had information about geological formation over millions of years (simulated of course) and then they let it run. and did touch ups.

Hey, you like big empty stretches between cities where nothing of importance can be found.
You hate fast travelling?

The Dragon Dogma is for you, now with 100% more long uneventful journeys.
Have fun....
To be honest, I was very excited for Dragon's Dogma, I had high hopes for it. But after months of being pampered by Skyrim's rich world, going to DD and seeing the most bleak and boring scenery, really killed it for me. Don't get me wrong, the combat was fluid and exciting, but everything in between was lackluster. Playing Dragon's Dogma really made me grateful for Bethesda, I know that sounds corny but I really do mean it. They are masters of their craft

I tend to agree that the world is too small. It's just scaled down way too much. I frequently find myself looking at the mountains in Skyrim and thinking that they're not much bigger than the hills behind my house. Or I walk out into a river and notice that it's maybe 20ft wide and only waist deep...

I wish we had levitation and the mark and recall spells, and the intervention scrolls, and the jump and slowfall spells and acrobatics, that would make the environment far more travel worthy I guess you could say.

I do not know why people are blind to Oblivions world in the beginning they said they was using a simulator to create the world and go in and edit things as needed, I liked Oblivion it was Bethesdas most polished game and I hardly had any bugs none really noteworthy, but the game world and the level scaling was this games two biggest faults.
