Skyrim world is very small!

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 3:53 pm

Even though it may feel big, that is only because of the new running system and slow horses. It is only about 40-50km squared. I wish there was some new mod, that would randomly generate new areas and make Skyrim feel like how big it really is in the Lore.

Agreed. It feels like Morrowind and Oblivion were bigger for me.

EDIT: talking about the outside area, not including dungeons.

It is maybe a bit smaller, but there is more detail in it....
And how bigger you make the world, how more possible bugs you could encounter.

Also making a big world is huge work!!!

Have you ever played games with randomly generated land? Bleah. I'll take the smaller (But still huge...) hand crafted world over a giant generated world anyday.

It took me like 2 months to do all the quests and finally explore all the content available in the game. So while I see where your going atleast there is alot of quests to do.

Really? It seems a lot bigger to me. Nearing 1000 hours and I've still hardly touched areas of The Reach The Pale and Winterhold.

Yeah no bugs either. So please don't make the world too big than it has to be.

Yea it's small, but it's bigger then most games, richly detailed, and about as big as the last 2 TES games.

Also metricly it's bigger then 40-50 kilos.

And I'm against randomization, it ruins the game, they did it in Oblivion which made it kind of lacking in art and detail.

I do wish the game was bigger though..but i wouldn't want any extra size take away the detail.

And to be honest, in each gameplay true skyrim, there are still place i discover, that i didn't saw before.

That's what i like with the elder scrolls and fallout franchise, you can play it over and over and still se things that you didn't see before.

I've played little sandbox games... I've played KOTOR 1 & 2 which I'm sure aren't much of a sandbox game. The only true Sandbox game I have played other than Skyrim would be Minecraft. Due to this, I'm quite content with the size of it.

If you want a to-scale game world, play Daggerfall. While there are some truly memorable places in that game, the rest is filled with identical towns/dungeons/caves etc. Randomly generated terrain may sound fun, but it ends up feeling hollow.

Well, looking at a map of Tamriel should give you your answer. Morrowind and Oblivion feel bigger because they are bigger. Skyrim is very dense in content though.

What's land mass compared to content? KoA came out boasting it would take 40 odd hours. Todd may have told the odd little lie about economies and mill sabotage, but that '300 hours to see everything', all I can say is I am still finding new stuff after longer than that.

The gameworld of Skyrim is actually bigger than Morrowind's. I shall now enjoy being attacked by the angers.

I have a map of all of tamriel Skyrim is smaller than Cyrodiil,Morrowind,Hammerfell, and maybe Black Marsh Skyrim might be a tiny bit bigger than Black Marsh and Valenwood and Elsweyr look like they could both be in one game because together they look a little smaller than Skyrim

OP, I think you might like Daggerfall or Arena. At least until you see the failings of Random terrain. It's a good idea, but everything just feel's so....shallow in the random areas.

Daggerfall is one of the deepest role playing games I've played in terms of open world ones. I don't care if running around in a loincloth on what seems like endless terrain seems boring. It's awesome!

Morrowind didn't take place on the mainland, so keep that in mind.

Are you counting only the island of Vvardenfell or only counting the main land mass of Morrowind because those 2 together are way bigger than Skyrim and looks a little bigger than Cyrodill

I'm assuming the people that put the work into it counted all the landmass. Face it, you guys will ave to find something new to complain about.
