For people with freezing issues...

....but. <----keyword. but Bethesda either doesn't care enough or can't fix it, because they would have by now. this software has been used since TES IV, if not before then. I think it's safe to say that nothing's going to happen with Gamebryo in games already created.

As for the link you posted, the only reason people are even aware of that (and the reason why it has that many signatures on the petition) is because of how popular CoD is. NV was out before CoD, had more issues, and needed to be fixed more, yet.....nothing. I don't think trying to make a big deal out of it now will help, it's too late....

My current savefile is in 8MB now LOL and i donea lot of quest .... and i still got a lot to complete .... hhh ..... i really dont know what to say: /

no, not necessarily. only start a new game if it's freezing a lot. and not 5 MB. it's more like 8-10 MB that it freezes a lot.

and yes, they knew something was wrong with their software and used it anyway.

well good news, i turned off the auto save and could play for about 2 ? hours YAY \o/. is there a tip to not let the save file reach 5MB? like just saving a few times in the gameplay, will be very wrong since the auto save will be off so....but the file size is counted by the things you did in the game (quests, discovering locations) or by quantity of saves that you saved over of it? i just hope i wrote everything right, is difficult to find people that know about this in my country :/ since fallout isn't very popular here.

I'll say this again, it is perfectly OKAY to have a save file the size of 5 MB. it's only when it's like 8-10 MB that there's a lot of issues.

the save file gets bigger the more you do things. so there isn't really anything you can do, unless you don't want to pick up items and do quests. the best you can do is try and keep your playthroughs as short as possible, but still enjoy the game. for ex. make a character that's excelled in melée or unarmed, and do the Legion storyline with a few side quests, then next time you play do a NCR playthrough excelling in guns and stuff, do a few side quests you haven't done, etc.

I did all of this as well. Uninstalled game data. Ran system restore. Reinstalled game. Game froze within 20 minutes of a new game again.

Has anyone who is experiencing freezing had success using a different game disc? I have half a mind to take this back to the store, and ask for another copy, new or used, to see if this is a flaw in the disc (would explain why some people with the exact same PS3 model can play without any problems, and some are screwed like me).

I have had a lot of problems with both fallout 3 and New Vegas but with my experience with the game I have discovered a way to cut down on the crashes. I have been playing the game , by that I mean at least three or four hours a day for about a month now; sometimes six or seven hours a day and have had the game crash ONCE.

DO NOT PAUSE THE GAME. I noticed that all the crashes occured after I left the game paused for short or even extended periods of time.

If you stop playing to go to the toilet perhaps just leave the game as it is or enter a building where there are no enemies. If you are doing something that may take a while save the game, exit and eject the disc(do not leave the disc in the ps3 as this may cause the game to crash when you start playing later).

As I have said before the game has only crashed once in a month and that is because I have not left the game paused. (Playing fallout 3 game of the year does not count because that f&*@er will crash no matter what)

I bought the game at release and had absolutely no freezing issues while playing about half of the main story on a PS3 phat. I stopped playing for a couple months and recently started playing again, after auto-downloading/installing the patch and playing for a couple days I have had a total of 4 freezes and it's constantly jittery. F'n annoying, never played a ps3 game this buggy, please fix or give us an official workaround.

I tried the safe mode option, and it seems to have done the trick. Before doing said option, I would enter into a building, any building to say the least. There would be a black screen and a total freeze up, resulting in my restarting my system. After performing the safe mode option, I was able to play the game problem free. I haven't had a chance to play for more than an hour at a time, so I couldn't tell you if it is completely fixed. As a temporary fix, it is proving successful. Thanks for the tip. I also changed my HUD color, and turned off the auto saves, must say It seems to be running a little smoother, with little blips every now and the.. Thanks again for the tip. Hope this helps more than just me..

I have found out that if you delete the fallout data in " game data utility " and re-installing fallout will make the game laggy for the first few times you play it. I found this out by doing so. lol if your wondering why i did that is cuz i have a 20gig ps3 ,thats not allot for 6 or 7 games, and i delete it... allot.

This thread never dies does it? The only way to not suffer the bugs currently in the game is to not play it. Just wait for the patch and go get some platinum trophies in the meantime. Personally i'm aiming for a GTA4 platinum (which is a bloody behemoth of a trophy).

Hi all,
Just purchased the game and am loving it while it's working, but I have a bug issue and am wondering if it's unique because at the moment it's just ruining the game.
In summary every time I restart the game (cold load) and go to move out of the current area I was in it causes the PS3 to completely to lock up. The first time it happened I thought it was just a glitch in the area, but now I am up to the 10th time the novelty has worn off.
I worked out that if I frag myself to death and the game reloads everything goes back to normal and I can leave the area.
Any help would be appreciated (I have tired google and a search on here)

I'm with you on this.... I can't even play this game anymore without getting really frustrated.... even when it "works" it lags like crazy. I'm over it until the problem is fixed, and if it isn't fixed soon I'm just going to sell the game even though I don't like leaving games unfinished.

To all of those who are asking if its the disk, should you return it, exc. It's defiantly the software, not the disk. The only reason I can think of why some people say they have no problems with it is if they are playing it in short bursts of time, or playing the quests without picking up a lot of items, having party members, exc. if the save file being large actually has a lot to do with the crashes.

From a programmers point of view, It seems like there are memory leaks somewhere in the code..... which on a PC wouldn't be an issue since people have massive amounts of RAM .. but on a console it is limited. So as you play the game longer and longer, any memory the program has used (If the code wasn't written to return the memory) would remain unavailable for use causing a crash..... that's just a guess though, I'm sure Bethesda already knows the issue though with this engine being so old.

Glad it helped, it has helped a few other players as well, but it unfortunately isn't a permanent fix. The games software, Gamebryo specifically, would have to be gutted from the game, and a new system implemented for it to ever work. this is never going to happen, so don't get your hopes up.

This is for freezing/lockup issues, and does not fix quest bugs/scripting errors. as for the comment about the only way to play the game is to wait for the patch, how come F3 GOTY is still widely unplayable on the PS3? that was never fixed.... neither will New Vegas. They needed some funding for their new software for Skyrim, and threw NV out the door half-finished to get that funding...

and the thread has helped people. "waiting for the patch" that will never fix the game hasn't....

I've read multiple places that the "memory leaks" are the problem, and if it were ever going to be fixed I'm sure they would have done it BEFORE the release of NV. If your game is giving you a lot of trouble, just sell it. I preordered the CE game & guide, paid $140 CND and have never been more disappointed in my life. sold it for about $100 and never looked back.

last time I buy a Bethesda product brand new. cheap [censored]s can't even be bothered to fix their own software, let alone admit somethings wrong with it.

~~~~~~~~~
oh, and let's try and keep this on-topic. the title can be a little misleading, but this isn't a thread to come and voice your general opinion on the game.
Just wanted to say thanks for the guide with possible crash fixes .::AleisterCrowley:: it definitely saved me a few hours of crashing already changing some of that stuff in game.
I really hope those Zenimax, Bethesda, Obsidian meat heads really read some of this stuff, as well with a previous post whomever is responsible for pushing out an unfinished and broken product should be fired immediately.
I had Fallout 3 for XBOX360 and it worked like a dream, I maybe crashed once or twice in 120 hours of play. Yay me :)
Fallout : New Vegas for PS3 whoa crash and freeze and glitch city to the point where I stopped playing my original character build not that I wanted to but the game FORCED me to. (Bye bye 40 hours)
My 2nd character after following the crash guide only causes me to crash now I'd say every 1 - 2 hours of play and seems to happen the more frequently I fast travel from location to location to me it seems like the engine or game just can't keep up with itself.
With that being said I dropped $140 on this game to the CE and hard cover book because I really enjoyed Fallout 3 so much, I'm now 33 and have been playing games since the days of Atari and Coleco Vision (and PC) haha, and find that my attention spam nowadays is lacking because the market is filled with so much crap that lasts 6 - 10 to finish a game. One of my last hopes was the Fallout franchise, but I guess not anymore. This company or companies will no longer get my money for a pre-order or CE ever again, and yes I will if at all buy it in a used bin so they only get pennies from me unless they want to offer me a discount or coupon on Skyrim or the next Fallout for literally wasting hours of my time from crashes because I sure do love taking 5-10 minutes to restart and load my New Vegas save file back up after a crash. I still have the bug the odd time where VATS just doesn't work, but I kinda like it because it makes the situation more dire hehe.
So again thanks .::AleisterCrowley:: for taking the time I'm sure from your crash and bug filled game to compose various crash fixes into the short help guide, it is appreciated by us.
To ZeniMax, Bethesda, Obsidian again whomever pushed this game out of the gate KNOWING it was bug filled and yes I'm sorry but 300 testers and the amount of bugs there was on day 1 lol what a joke, would love to get my hands on that guy. No you will never get my money again and way to go pissing off a lot of the mature gaming audience as it will come back to bite you.
Don't forget to send me my voucher for your next crap game because that's the only way I'm buying it. Or a solid rummage through the bargain bin when it's a year old.
Same here, and boy, do I regret it. You have to make mistakes to learn from them, though.
i'm a little late to the game, but here's my main anti-freezing method: no companions or leave them at home. not dragging companions all over the mojave has improved my performance tremendously. i'll do the companion side quests, but i only take the one companion, then ditch them when it's over. i do like to have raul with me for his awesome full maintenance perk, but i leave him in my safe house.
it seems i can have companions, but the more i drag them around with me, the more the game likes to freeze or hang; especially if i jump around, or go a route the cpu has trouble following. that's when i would get a lot of frame rate crashes and freezes. also, the game would have trouble pulling all my companions through travel doors and fast travel in general. lots of hangs.
i never used companions in fo3, and had so few problems i was surprised people were complaining about issues in that game. estimate about 20 or less freezes in 6-8 playthroughs.
my last two NV playthroughs (including current) i've turned off autosave for rest and wait and have either had no companions or left raul at home, and while not perfect, the game runs much much smoother.
certain areas are problem areas no matter what though. freeside will freeze if i'm there long enough, especailly around old mormon fort. I think it has to do more with the kids running after the rat; nearly all freeside freezes involved the kids and the rat. westside likes to crash the frame rate and will freeze occasionally. and end game save files can bog the game down something fierce. frame rate issues at ncr embassy on the strip, forlorn hope, mccarran, and the fort; will also freeze on occasion.
i don't know how it was before the patches (i bought used recently...was warned by friends) but as of now i'd say FNV is tolerable. for me, the game works as intended 90% of the time. FNV is a great game, the true sequel, and it's a shame it's plagued by the tech issues. glad to hear bethesda's future games will not feature this garbage engine. the only thing standing in the way of bethesda being an elite dev/pub is tech issues; which is too bad really, as i quite enjoy bethesda's games and vision and the stories and worlds they create.
