Put your hands up for the beta testers who are actually bug

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 4:48 am

Presumably everybody who has applied to the beta test has done so because they intend to test.

I don't see the purpose of this thread and I think anyone who posted a comment saying they were just after the free DLC would be somewhat less than the sharpest taack in the box.

Well even if they were just after the free DLC, they were after it because hopefully they want to actually play it. Since all us newbies had to sign up here to apply for it, we all know where to come if there are problems. They play it, they get stuck because of some glitch I am sure they will rush over to the appropriate section and howl like a banshee about it. Thus the developer will learn about it, even if the player has absolutely no idea how he or she managed to cause the glitch. We all play differently and do different things, they just need a large number of players to give it a go and see if they can break it, stuff it up, do something unintended or not be able to do something they should have been able to do. And even after the DLC is officially released and even more players play it there is bound to be even more things discovered that need fixing. Just look what we managed to find in the main game.

Exactly. Everyone has been svcking up and has been saying how great they would be at testing. In reality it is obvious that all these laymen entered to try and get the dlc early. Why else would they do it? They don't really want to test the game.

Sad thing is I wouldn't be surprised if the game is still more bug free than if Beth did it.

Since you've only been registered here a couple of days I doubt you reported any game breaking bugs back to Bethesda. The only reason people are complaining about the amount of people registering is because since the Beta has been announced they've been registering/posting non-stop to increase their self importance in the hopes that they get the Beta, and what happens to those types of people that receive it?

They never post again.

Another generalization! Maybe we're posting because we've just found out about this forum and are enjoying some Elder Scrolls related conversation? You're also fairly narrow minded if you believe that Bethesda only gather information about bug fixes from their own forums. The population here is only a tiny fraction of the overall total players who have Skyrim and are vocal about problems on the internet.

Found out about the forum through the Beta invitation, yeah I'm sure it's just a generalisation.

Considering that most of the bugs are reported here and then spread through word of mouth into mainstream media is mostly fact, the 1.2 patch resistance bug was first reported by PC players and when doubts came from players that "Oh it's been fixed for the console release" came, me and a few others were posting here within minutes confirming that the bug was indeed live on consoles while other forum members and the rest of the internet was still oblivious to the fact (Asking for sauce/proof etc).

I don't necessarily mean you, but there are a LOT of people who joined for the beta and won't stay on the forums if they don't get in.

Wow. People are getting all elitist about when thy joined the forums?

Why does it matter when a person joined an online forum? How would that affect their ability to find and report bugs? Seriously people, no need to get all elitist. I daresay that many forum-goers will be signing up for Beta testing only for the exclusive access ...

Nice generalization, just because you've been a member of a forum for longer does not somehow increase your status as a fan or diminish ours. A lot of us signed up for the same reason as you.
It just seems very convenient the amount of people who sign up on the announcement of a beta and free early dlc. Usually there are very few laymen at one time. Now there are loads who have all signed up within the same 3 days...

Perhaps they're interested in beta testing? Perhaps they actually want to fulfill the task they could be set? Of course plenty of new people will be signing up for this. Did you honestly think that only 'veterans' of the forums would be signing up for beta testing?

To be honest though I think it's sort of wrong to blame Bethesda. There are so many different things that could affect bugs it is hard for them to test them all.

Has anybody else had the problem with the screen flashing yellow when you pause the game or open the journal?

Thing is, I actually applied to beta test, I will be finding any bugs and reporting them to the forum, regardless of if I get into the Beta or not because I will end up buying the DLC anyway.

I think bethesda need a small group of say, 400 fans, whom receive the DLC one month early and are then tasked to test the game and dlc and see if it works, if they aren't staying active on the forum with bug reports etc give them the boot

Actually I reported a very rare bug, and I went to a fair bit of trouble to try and work out how I did it. The only reason I never reported it when I actually got it was because I could not work out where to report it, I know now. Unfortunately it is too late for all the little glitches I never really worried about, but I thought my character throwing sparks and steaming the place up was worth investigating. Unfortunately I am no qualified beta tester, I am just a casual gamer who happens to like the last few Elder Scrolls games. You do not really need any special ability to find bugs, it is fixing them that requires a specialist.

And yes having found the place like so many fans that signed up for the chance to be a beta tester, you will not be chasing us off so easy, your stuck with us now.

Perhaps they wanted to get early free dlc? Just look at the comments on other websites that are advertising the beta. Most of them say they really hope they get in so they can play the dlc early. It is slightly annoying though the way people aren't bothered about joining the forums until they realise you have to be a member to get into the beta.

This may be a stupid question, but if we were to beta test where would we write the feedback?

Why I think some people are a little irked...
Bethesda posted this beta here on the forums and specifically required you to be a forum member to sign up.

Seemed like a little gift to the loyal fans of the forum seeing that they did not announce this anywhere else.
Just a post on the forums, no press release or anything to websites.

Gamespot noticed the post and threw up what could hardly be considered a article about it saying
"Go here to get your FREE DLC!" and now the forums are full of people who probably wont post
again after they get what they want.

Just saying, this seems to be the consensus feeling of some existing members of this community.
Don't bite my head off for saying it.

If they do pick me, ill be sure the first thing i do when i find a glitch or a bug is open up the handy dandy forums and post it on a bugs list for dawnguard thread.i hate it when people take advantage of things like this, though, they just get the DLC for free and wait until all the bugs are patched to actually play it, shun them :/
