Question for the haters

Post » Mon Jun 11, 2012 10:32 am

What would you do if all your hate and negavity caused bethesda to stop making TES and focus on other projects?
I know the game has many frustrating faults that need to be addressed but the positives need to be praised equally if you want to encourage growth

Well, that wouldn't be good. If they quit making TES games they might focus on Fallout and ruin that franchise too.

I doubt they'd stop because people write stuff on the internet. They're probably rollin' in the cash. :P

Don't be discouraged by those three Skyrim hating guys who use their sockpuppet brigade to create the illusion of large scale dissatisfaction with the game.

There is no way in Oblivion that any number of disgruntled fans could shut down Bethesda's work on TES. The sales figures of the entire series simply have too many digits for that to happen.

There actually aren't very many people who outright hate the game. There are plenty who have grievences with specific aspects of the game, nothing wrong with that.

I'm sure they're used to it. And the proof is in the pudding money. Skyrim has been the most successful RPG- maybe ever? That's a lot of love. A few haters are just spitwads in the big pile of cash that Todd Howard is rolling around in.

Every game's chat channels always have more negativity than praise. People generally come to the forums to write about stuff they don't like.

If TES wouldn't continue I would be very sad. Even with some flaws TES games when modded are still the most enjoyable RPG games I play/have played.

Encourage growth? what a laugh they have been downgrading this series since daggerfall... but hey it sure looks pretty so I guess that's something.
But don't worry they are going to stay on course with the action adventure game that is skyrim, don't worry the next title will hold your hand even more.

"There's no such thing as fun for the whole family."

-Jerry Seinfeld

People have different opinions on different subjects, that's never going to change. Nor should it; this is a diverse world, and I would hate to see it become gray dust in the name of order. What we CAN reasonably expect is expressing said opinions with respect and honor. Words like hater (looking at you OP) or implying the playerbase needs handholding (looking at you Illuminosopher) are only going to inflame emotions

If you have issues, focus on specifics, it's good feedback for developers.

So as long as the world works the way you want it every things fine right, good to know. I have no problem with someone using the word hater that is their opinion(but i guess in your world opinions are not allowed)
when you say opinions should have respect and honor whose vision of honor and respect are you referring to.

also I don't think the developers give a lick about anyone's opinion and it's within their right not to care, just like it's within my right to say that there is a whole lot of hand holding going on in this series now.

It seems like you have a pretty strong opinion about the game. May I ask 2 things?
1. How many hours have you played
2. On a scale from 1-10, where would you rate skyrim (10 being the "best")

At some point, every company should stop making sequels and start creating new IP's. Bethesda is no different. In seven years I don't want to be deciding between TES VII, Fallout V, Mass Effect VI, Dragon Age IV, or whatever floats your boat.

Maybe they can come up with something even more creative. Complacency sets in with extended success.

1. I'm not sure exactaly maybe 200 or so (nowhere near what I had put into daggerfall, morrowind or oblivon and for the record I didn't like oblivion that much ether)
2. I don't really like giving scores to games... but if I had to I would give it an 8

I just said opinions will always exist, how did you come to THAT conclusion? I'm simply saying that ad hominem attacks are frowned upon (which, again, is something you have done)

when you say opinions should have respect and honor whose vision of honor and respect are you referring to.

Moral Relativism is all well and good to argue, but I think some things like name calling and such are pretty universally looked down upon. I can't believe I'm explaining that...

I rather doubt that the developers don't care about our opinions; otherwise improvements like the new Perk system for skills wouldn't have been implemented. And there's a difference between freedom of speech and slander

I am a hater because of how much Skyrim differs from its previous instalments. I grew up with Morrowind and so I am used to having more, not less. Because what can we honestly say about the things that have been added to this game which are not debatable and an improvement none the less? Visuals and combat animations that is.

When you said "expressing said opinions with respect and honor" you pretty much eliminated the pure idea of an opinion, not all opinions are roses and sunshine. I didn't attack anyone if you feel that the game holding your hand is insulting to you that's your problem.

Now whose being insulting.

I don't see the perk system as improvement but whatever you are welcome to think whatever you like.

How would they be able to improve their games if all they got was praise? Think a little.
