[WIPZ] Radiance: A Simple Immersion Booster

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 7:10 pm

I have some good news and some bad news.

Good news is, I was attacked by a dragon fanatic in Solitude. It was especially neat when Jaree-Ra stepped in and knifed him through the nose.

Bad news: I get a "This save file is corrupted and cannot be loaded" error when I try to load up a save that was made with the mod active. Oddly, this only happens when I actually have radiance.esp loaded; if I quit, unload the mod, and try again, it works. I've tried this several times.

So yeah, get your mod cleaned.

I'm at a loss. Looking at the mod in TESVSnip, the only record I touch from Vanilla Skyrim is the Story Manager Quest Node WE00TemplateNodeNOTforRealQuests. I doubt that this quest node is what's causing your save file corruption, but this technical stuff isn't exactly my forte. :( Based on my (perhaps inaccurate?) understanding of mod cleaning, I don't think it would do any good?

The save file corruption occurs with any save you make, or only saves you make after the dragon fanatic attacks?

[EDIT]

Also, what's your load order? I have one other person getting save file corruptions. I wonder if there's a common mod or two between you, so I can narrow down what exactly is causing this.

Any save, but not immediately I think. There needs to be a cell change first.

By the way, Wrye Bash gives me a pop-up saying that radiance.esp has an "unrecognized version". Did you save it in the CK?

The most recent uploaded version may not have been saved in the CK, though the current unreleased version is. I'll upload a new, saved-in-CK version and see if that makes a difference.

Anyway, here are the mods that you two share that I don't have:
Spoiler
Bring Out Your Dead.esp
Open Cities Skyrim.esp
Reduced Distance NPC Greetings.esp
Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp
WATER - Get Wet.esp
WATER.esp
I've been meaning to add the USP sooner or later, but would either of you be willing to see if this problem persists when these mods are deactivated?

[EDIT]

I've uploaded a new version to Workshop with some minor tweaks and fixes. I don't think it will fix the save corruption problem, but at least Wrye Bash won't spit errors at you anymore.

Is anyone else experience save corruption issues? These are the only two reports I've received, so I'd like to narrow down whether this is specific to Broseph and Thingy Person's setup or not.

Yeah, you really should finalise the mod in the CK; TESVSnip saves plugins with a wrong header, malformed records, and so forth. I'll test the newest version to see if the problem persists, and if it does, I'll try without some of the mods. Not today though.

Either way, thanks for continuing to develop this.

I'll keep that in mind. Thank you for helping me! I really couldn't do this on my own.

I've tried with USP, and no save corruptions.

There's a mod on the Workshop that seems to have a couple of random animal (and other) encounters - which makes me wonder if you are planning to put any animal encounters in your mod?

I've uploaded a new version of the alpha to Workshop. It contains miscellaneous minor fixes and rebalancing, but no fix to the save corruption issue yet. :(

Riveon: I don't have any particular plans to add animal encounters at this time, though it's always a possibility. I don't think random animal attacks quite have a place in this mod, as I feel those happen often enough in vanilla Skyrim. However, if there's something missing that would make the world feel a little bit more real or responsive to the player, I'm game. Do you have any suggestions?

When this goes into Beta, I'll put it on Nexus. For now, Workshop makes it easy to share rapid iterations, which is ideal for the alpha stage (for me, anyway). Not that I do a whole lot of rapid iteration, but keeping it simple improves the chances of me using my limited spare time to finish this. ;) I'm sorry if having the alpha Workshop-only is inconvenient for you. :(

Speaking of which, sorry for the update-sparse weekend. I came down with the flu and have been mostly bedridden, save for my random tinkering trying to figure out this save corruption issue.

I've posted a small update to the Workshop. As far as I can tell, everyone who is getting a save corruption has two things in common: they are running WATER and Get Wet mods, and they are eligible for the Dragon Fanatic encounter. Since somebody tested without those mods running and still had save corruption problems, I'm temporarily disabling the Dragon Fanatic. Please test it out and let me know if you're still getting save corruptions. I've also bumped up the odds of running into one of the new events while in the wilderness or on the road.

I played with the latest version, came across a werewolf vargr - which I presume is from the werewolf skirmish event, I'm not using Wars in Skyrim or anything similar - and got the corrupted save file problem again.

Now gonna try it without the USKP and WATER.

edit: Still got corrupted save. And this is on a save long before I installed any of these mods.

Well, that is disappointing. Guess I'll have to do some research on what else could cause this... :(

Thank you for all of your help. If you have any ideas, please let me know.

Okay, let's try this!

First! Is anyone not getting save corruptions? I've only received feedback from 3 people, all of whom are. Since nobody else is coming forth, I've assumed it's not a persistent problem, but I'd like confirmation on this.

Second! To the people who are--would any of you be willing to try opening Radiance in the CK, saving it without making any changes, then seeing if you still have save corruption problems?

Thank you!

Just an FYI... per Kivan over at USKP, Unofficial Skyrim Patch.esp [Version 1.0] should be loaded right after UPDATE.esm. If you did this, do you think this might change any of the corrupt saves issues you are having?

All right, I've run through my scripts and the likely suspects for causing this problem aren't there. None of the active scripts use RegisterForUpdate-type functions, my mod doesn't edit any of the vanilla scripts, and there are no infinitely repeating loops (though I suppose if there were, I would be getting corruptions, too). I'm going to try installing the WATER mods to see if I can duplicate the save corruption on my own system, but I'm not too optimistic on that front. =/

Also, expect to see this up on Nexus soon. I may have to put it up there earlier than planned, if for no other reason than to let others get a closer look at my scripts.

Okay, it looks like one script wasn't being packaged with the mod. This script is never actually used (it's attached to an alias for a quest that's disabled), but it's something. Let me know if you're still experiencing save corruptions.

I'm going to grab Radiance during lunch at work tomorrow, see if I get the same problem as you guys on a different computer. (Installing WATER did not trigger the issue for me).

Well, I have good news and bad news.

The bad news is that the latest update does not fix the save corruption issue.

The good news is that I am getting save corruptions on my work computer. Why is that good news? It means I can finally tinker with the issue directly, instead of trying random things and asking you guys if it works!

Anyway, I'll try to get this on Nexus in the next few days so that others can take a look at the scripts. And if anyone has any ideas what could be causing this beyond what I've already explored, please let me know!

I think I finally have some good news! I've managed to get this to run on my work computer without any corruptions in a fairly brief test. I'll upload the new build when I get home. Many of you will be pleased to hear that, since I packaged it up by hand, I'll finally be caving in and uploading this to Nexus. Once we can confirm that this fixes the issue, I can finally get back to work adding new encounters!

what about events after you clear a dungeon, it can become habitable or something. say after you clear out a fortress a merchant sets up shop, or a khajiit caravan. like dynamic but possibly temporary settlements.

city events, like festivals, feasts, ceremony.
