Hi Resolution Texture Pack Free DLC Thread #2

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 10:37 am

No bugs to report here (i7 920, GTX 470), I do get a slow down in performance every now and then but that is mostly due to me loading 9 grids. Overall I am very happy with it, its not a "Holy Sh#t" improvement, but much of the world seems much less blurry. Like giving someone glasses who always had bad eyes. If you actually have bad eyes and don't wear glasses you might not notice much of a difference...

In another thread it said to put the files into the archive of your skyrim.ini but I'm waiting to see if this works because messing with the skyrim.ini can destroy your save data.

Cheers for that. I'll keep an eye out to see how things pan out. I'm not messing with stuff until I know it works! (particularly given my poor knowledge when it comes to messing with with files).
I'd forgotten what mingers vanilla female characters inevitably are. My other female character is a Breton and it was a shock to see her forehead suddenly all wrinkly like she's a pensioner.

Just expressing my gratitude etc.
This was a very cool move on Bethesdas' part after all.

Never bothered with moded HD texturer, they look out of place for the most part (in my humble opinion)
But this DLC is just more of the original awesome, which is incredibly cool, and looks sick, with barely (if any) performance decrease.

This looks awesome, and I'm not experiencing any major hits in FPS (I don't have a counter, but it feels exactly the same as before). Looks so much better! Thanks Beth!

Yes that works, just back them up and you can copy/paste them to your data folder if you re-install the game, just be sure they're checked in Launcher / Data Files folder when you launch a new install.

I just tried this to verify it does work, ive been keeping a Drive image Pro image of skyrim with no patches at all just a clean install from disc, for backup while i was testing all the patch updates.
And copy/pasting the .esp and .bsa files you listed worked just fine.
(not sure if steam recognizes they are installed though, since i have steam offline on that install to ensure it stays "un-updated" for testing)

Thanks.

To use the Official Higher-Res DLC textures as default, and your texture mods to load over them:

1. DESELECT both HighResTexturePack01.esp and HighRestTexturePack02.esp in the "Data FIles" section of the Game Launcher.

2. Open Skyrim.ini in your Documents/My Games location, locate [Archive] and replace the text below it it with this:

sResourceArchiveList=Skyrim - Misc.bsa, Skyrim - Shaders.bsa, Skyrim - Textures.bsa, HighResTexturePack01.bsa, HighResTexturePack02.bsa, Skyrim - Interface.bsa, Skyrim - Animations.bsa, Skyrim - Meshes.bsa, Skyrim - Sounds.bsa

sResourceArchiveList2=Skyrim - Voices.bsa, Skyrim - Voicesixtra.bsa

That's it. Instead of loading the textures as .esps, the game will treat them as default textures and all your mods will override them if there are any conflicts. Just remember - you should have both the esps permanently deselected.

P.S - I don't take credit for this tip, it was written in another thread but it's very useful so deserves its own thread.

P.P.S - Thanks Bethesda for the PC luvvin'!

OK, for those who do not have any mod installed, this DLC is great, although it contains some errors ... See: http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343691-info-detailed-anolysis-of-highres-pack-click-to-learn/

The HD textures pack DLC is a great effort by BGS highly appreciated, thanks !

For those who already have mods installed, even mods not related directly with textures, I recommend this steps instead:

or

The HD texture pack is LEGIT! I installed it yesterday and can't put the game DOWN! It's almost like playing a new game. The difference in individual textures is subtle, but the overall effect (when taking in all the vistas and environments) is breathtaking. Kudos, Bethesda!

For anyone who's interested, I play on an Asus G74SX-BBK7 gaming laptop and run Skyrim on Ultra settings, everything maxed out (except Medium shadows to keep the FPS consistent). Playing Skyrim on PC just got even better!

Any chance there might be some similar upgraded graphics DLC on consoles?

Consoles haven't gotten more powerful since last November, the reason textures were so shoddy in the first place was because they were all consoles could handle. PC users just had to live with that until now.

I'm talking minor updates in certain places, not across the whole game.

Your operating system is over 10years old!!!!

Purple textures are a graphics card/main memory issue. If you do not have enough ram then all the textures cannot be loaded.

A ati 5770 is not really going to cut the mustard this day and age, you basically got xbox graphics card, which is based of the 4870 same as 5770.

You dont see people getting purple graphics with a good graphics card/pc.

Lower your texture qualitiy, if it goes away then you pc aint up to it.

ATI 5770 1gb DDR5 is coming up for 3 years old not 10.

Steam updated my game but now I have some purple but its random, in a room in one of the halls there were 2 Wolf heads on the wall, 1 was very detailed the other was purple. Solitude guards had some purple tunic and shield while others with the same uniform were ok and well detailed.

I would get it if the guards with the same tunic uniforms were all purple , but some are and some are not.

The XBox360 has 512MB RAM shared between the system and video. The PS3 has 256MB of dedicated video RAM and 256MB of system RAM. If you notice, the system requirements for the upgraded texture pack is 1GB dedicated video RAM.

ONE BIG PROBLEM FOUND AFTER I DID THIS ... WHEN I GO TO THE MAP AND GO TO JUMP TO ANOTHER PLACE, I GET KICKED TO DESKTOP!

Anyone else swaped the above in the INI file and now find you get crash to DT?

It wouldn't kill their ram if (for instance) there were just upgraded textures on your character model only. I don;t really care what the ENEMIES look like, but I wanna look the best possible >.>

Or maybe an upgraded dragon texture. The RAM can handle one or two REALLY good textures at a time. Hell maybe if developers all asked then Microsoft/Sony might release some HD paging to give th RAM a little more to work with. Slower than dedicated but they all have harddives now.

All I can say is wow. Skyrim is now a very pretty game. Skyrim + FXAA Injector is uber sixyness. I also had the blue / purple treestump bug but luckily the modders over at Nexus already put up a fix for it. I'm in heaven. :D

I believe it might not be compatible with DX11 cards. It just crashes or presents texture errors.

Does anyone know if this DLC will mess with any of my mods? And please don't guess.

It actually improves a lot of mods as the new Normal maps are used under their textures, so it is worth while using even if you do use the 2K mods or whatever.
My game looks [censored] fantastic now with user made armour mods and map textures with Beths updated Normal maps.
I suggest everyone try it.
You can find fixes for the purple textures on the Nexus as well, if they don't get sorted by verifying your cache in Steam.

Yea, I figured it out shortly after in another thread by using the .bsa instead of the .esp file.

Nope. Runs perfect on my GTX560 1GB. No stutter, lag or crashes. Only issue I ran into was the same everyone else got and that is the texture = normal map mix-up on a handful of textures like some tree stumps. Luckily there's already a mod out to fix this so now it's flawless.

Made a thread... but got moved to the mods section:

Vanilla:

HD Texture Pack:
http://img845.imageshack.us/img845/1628/hdpack1.jpg
Skyrim HD2k:
http://img4.imageshack.us/img4/2328/2khdlite1.jpg

Ahh, this is what I was looking for. I downloaded the Texture Pack yesterday and didn't really notice a difference, though I did convince myself things looked better...

While I saw this comparison yesterday, I didn't actually look in my own game until just now. My bridge still looks like the one in the Vanilla screenshot, with the large, square, nails.

I verified the game, thinking maybe the DLC got corrupted on the way in, but everything checked out fine. When I re-loaded after doing this, Skyrim did a graphics check for me, without changing any of my options (though I did have to reset my Mouse Sensitivity in-game), but the bridge still looks the same.

I was under the impression that the Hi-Res Textures were default once downloaded, but apparently I need to do something. Should there be a Hi-Res option in the Texture Quality part of the Options? Is there something else I should have done to "activate" the textures?

This is not always true. I have a Nvidia GeForce GTX 560i 2Gb, and the purple guards happened to me once in Dawnstar.
