Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 12:13 pm

My pack didnt load well some textures were missing steam started to download 1,5 gb after verifying the cache , its annoying i downloaded more than half of the game today

That is good to hear that not the whole DLC has to be re-downloaded.

CCNA, I'm sorry to ask you, but are you 100% certain of this? I ask because I always thought that every .esp file have priority over a loose file, ever !

I'm afraid this only works if:

Before you load your game for the first time after downloaded the HD texture pack DLC, you have to un-checking the .esp files under data files. Because, if you do not this, the new .bsa files (related with the DLC) will overwrite the "vanilla" .bsa files and the game will be "stuck" with the official HD texture pack DLC.

Am I wrong? :(

Archive Invalidation does not work that way. Loose files will ALWAYS have priority over archived files, ESPs are not a factor.

The ESPs are dummy files, they contain no data. This is one of the ways to tell the game to load a particular BSA Archive (by loading an ESP that is named identically to the BSA). This does not interfere with loose files having precedence over archives.

This is something I thought of and have no idea if it will work, but cant you rename the new BSA archives to overwrite the old ones and use it as a non ESP replacer? I want to believe there was two texture BSA's for the vanilla install.

The new BSA's are different than the stock ones. The ESPs that come with the DLC tell the game to use the files in the new BSA's. If you uncheck them, then the new BSA's just sit there taking up space on your hard drive.

The new BSA's may not contain all the files the game needs, only the changed ones.

I hope Skyrim HD does clothes soon then (any idea when?). Because then I won't need this....

http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=2674 and http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=106 already has high-res textures for everything people wear.

It's a Tuesday here in America. :ermm:

But whatever bro, Tuesdays. Better than announcing a DLC (that costs money).

I've never been one to really apreciate graphics after the initial "wow" phase. I hope that develpement resources aren't wasted in favor of eye candy.

Thank you very much for taking the time to take these screenshots, Derko1.

I hate to say it but, between the vanilla textures and the DLC textures, I prefer the vanilla textures.

Oh, I'm not seeing much changes because apparently my Skyrim HD mod is overriding the DLC. :o

LOL, I have a misconception from 10 years ago (since MW) until today about the .esp files, the loose files and their precedence ...

Excuse my previous paranoia... :)
So I can have the best of the 2 worlds: HD textures 2048x2048 from 3rd party AND HD textures (supposedly 1024x1024) from Bethesda for everything else that the mods do not change ... NICE !!!

If you can't see the difference, Specsavers should be the next stop for you.

Not sure about that. Only 4 of my files were modified today for me, after installing the DLC (the 4 files associated with the DLC).

The new BSA's are different than the stock ones. The ESPs that come with the DLC tell the game to use the files in the new BSA's. If you uncheck them, then the new BSA's just sit there taking up space on your hard drive.

Yes, I realize now that. Thanks to both of you for the replys & Thomas Kaira.

You should give the last batch of screens in that post a look. Vanilla looks horrid by comparison.

Sometimes the DLC textures look better in my eyes than the 2KHD textures. Ofc. the vanilla textures look worst of all.
All in all, the HRTP is a decent DLC, and for free, who cares? :)

Well I have to be honest. The texture pack differences are very minimal in my opinion and are actually hard to spot. As many people have already said, it is most noticable on clothing where the resolution has increased slightly. The bark on the trees are also very slightly improved, as are some wood textures and some of the brick work on walls, etc. All in all though, I would say that the changes are certainly not worth the 3 GB download or increase in game folder size.

However, they are of course free and it was good of Bethesda to give the PC users this DLC, so kudos to them for that.

I can load the texture packs one at a time, but with both it crash to desktop. I guess I won a free file check + re-download.
Also the "texture pack 01" touches character textures and apparently my loose files in Data\textures don't have the priority at all. I have a modification of the models and their textures, but now I have the modification of the models with the DLC textures. It doesn't match. How comes the BSA becomes prioritary over my loose files? I don't see the "load loose file" option in Data Files menu.

Not sure which thread this should go in.

I just went to download this pack from steam, it said I now have it, but then I get this error if I try to play

Steam .exe (main exception): CMultiFieldBlob (Pserialized) BadField - extends past end of blob

So now I cant play the game. What do I do?

Thanks

I encountered one of those purple textures I used to get before the 2GB patch. The chopping block owned by the female elf food merchant in Riften was the problem.

This ^

Otherwise it looks quite a bit nicer. :)
