I'd give it to a charity that I created myself, then withdraw it from my charity's bank account and get a tax refund on the money.

I'm not religious but on this occasion I think I would have to claim it as a gift from god.

I'd probably just keep it. Whoever manages to somehow "lose" $50,000 probably doesn't need it more than me. I might hold onto it for a while to make sure it isn't related to a crime (like a bank robbery), and to give time for if someone really needed it to somehow announce they lost it. If the person who lost it seems to be in more need of it than I, I'd probably give it back then.

Edit: I would watch that show ^

I did once see a show like that. Something valuable left out in the open unguarded to lure people. I closed the TV with disgust greater than what would be caused by Idols and Big Brother combined :teehee:

or maybe it's the college tuition for a child who comes from a low-income family and that 50K was 18 years worth of savings specifically so they could get into a good college and achieve a higher standard of living than their parents.

If the situation is that, I will confiscate the money as a punishment for such incompetence when handling money. If one is stupid enough to just lose a bag full of money, s/he [censored] deserves it.

I think I might keep it, to be honest. I don't spend a whole lot of money, but for a college kid, there are too many uses for that kind of money.

I would take 10000$ and leave the rest, there is no way to know how dirty that money is, so it would be a bad idea to take the whole bag. I also wouldn't put it in the bank or spend it all at once out of nowhere.

Oh, and don't leave finger prints.

Then, after properly bathed.. I would put it out on the streets for a month or so, turn over a quarter mill, take the original fifty grand and tell the police that I found it, pocketing the two hundred grand. Also telling the police that I'll be keeping the money safe until such time that someone may declare it (svcking interest off of it on an account in the meantime.)

This

People should realize: large, unexplained deposits trigger the IRS. So you can't put the money in the bank or invest or anything like that. You also can't spend it extravagantly. You can't enjoy the money unless you do it the legal way.

Which is why you slowly trickle it into your bank account. :P

I'd prolly keep it if my conscience would let me. I am ridden with guilt (that's what Dr. Kaufman said) so I'm not entirely sure. I mean, if I gave it to da police it would end up being money for tear gas, wouldn't it?

Honestly, just talk to the bank manager.

I don't know a single bank that won't 'talk' business, if you sit down with them and make it worth their effort.

I used to work in a high cash flow industry.

Id keep it. Without question. I would also assume that because its $50,000 in cash it is there because of something illegal, thus taking it to the cops would be foolish. I would sit on it for a bit, pay attention to the local news to see if it was a bank robbery or if it was just some drug dealers stash, or whatever. If after a month or so nothing came up about a large sum of cash being taken/robbed then I would trickle spend it. Never touching a bank but what this money would allow me to do would be to pay for all my daily expenses in cash and save my paycheck. Say I wanted to by a motorcycle. I would buy it used off of a private seller and pay cash, I would not in any way shape or form let anyone know that I stumbled upon this money, friend, foe, or government official.

Pretty much this.

As long as you are smart about it, you should be safe. Besides, the cops where I live are so crooked they would keep it for themselves anyway. That is not even remotely a joke.

I'd pick it up and be all "Maaaaaan money doesn't buy you happiness" AND THROW IT ON THE GROUND.

Yes! Pick it up, look to the sky and say: "You must think I'm a joke. I don't need you hand outs, I'm an advlt!" Then THROW IT ON THE GROUND.

If there was no id then no. Anyone could claim it to be theirs. Though if it did have id in it then with out a doubt I would return. However, anyone who has 50 grand to skip around in the park with and forget it like an old news paper should be shoot.

I wouldn't turn it in, cops would probably just take it.

I would buy a car and every month when I have to make a payment I would deposit 1 payment worth of money into my bank account and then pay for the car. The I would spend the rest of it uncrating crates in TF2.
