On a scale of 1-10 what's skyrim

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:09 pm

Red Dead Redemption was my GOTY for 2010.

I was actually really eager to try that out, too bad it wasn't released for PC. I gave up console gaming a long time ago =(

I agree with what several others have said.

I'd rate it about a 8.5/10 as a game by itself, but 6.5/10 as a TES game.

I think that says a lot about the quality of the series. Even a disappointing TES game is still more than worth the money and better than many other games out there.

absolutely.

and, i wish people would recognize that all of us who talk about the disappointments and desired changes DOES NOT mean we don't love the series or game.

What did you give Oblivion and Morrowind in combat?

Oblivion's combat 5
Morrowind's combat 3
Oblivion's combat system seems quite average to me and Morrowind's combat is dice rolling.

On a scale of 1 to 10, does a 1 equal a zero? Because technically zero is zero, or is Skyrim just so awesome its default lowest value is above nothing. I'm not going to give the game a 1 or a zero I'm just confused by the question.

this is hard for me to do but for me nothing will top morrowind IMO

morrowind: 10
skyrim: 8.8 ( would have been a 9.0 without the glitches)
daggerfall: 8.5(would have been very close to morrowind but the bugs were bad)
arena: 8
oblivion: 6

never had that annoying glitches people complaining about so i would give it a 9. Not a 10 because morrowind exists

8.5 is a surprising rating given the numbers that go into it. Purely on averages should've been a 6 or so. Or are graphics important enough to you to salvage an abysmal score on story, poor score on guilds, and an average score on combat while still pulling everything up to an 8.5?

I'd also be curious on what you'd rate Morrowind in all four categories, to see if it's inverse of your Skyrim rating.

Overall, without factoring in bugs I give it a 10. Everytime i read some complaint on here saying that the game was 'shallow' , i remembered some of the dungeons with completely original stories of their own that took me up to 30 mins to complete, and then thought these fools dont know what theyre talking about. Then i would think how same fool probably has more hours logged in Skyrim than he has with any other game and I wonder if they can just seek the attention they crave somewhere besides here. Same goes for the rpg experts who give ratings of 6 and 7 like theyre so knowledgable of games, they must have some top secret stash of the best games ever that no one else ever heard of. I grew out of that stage after my 12th birthday.

:lmao:

Not sure how to take that response.

But seriously. It's at worst a 9/10.

On a scale from 1-10, I look at it like a grading scale: 9-10 = A | 8 = B | 7 = C | 6 = D | 5 and below = F

So if I were to "grade" Skyrim, it would be a for sure and for certain "A". Now, is it an "A", an "A-", or an "A+"?

Well, let's list what I was looking for from Skyrim, and how it stacks up:

Pure, Raw Enjoyment:
10 / 10 - I think that when it comes down to it, this is the most fun game I have ever played. I feel it is a beautiful blend of RPG style skill based and real time combat. It has a fun, fast paced combat system that still encourages character development by training your skills. It combines melee combat and magic combat beautifully, though I can't truly comment on the ranged combat because I haven't particularly tried out archery in this game.

Character Development and Customization:
10 / 10 - Perhaps the biggest thing I look for in an Elder Scrolls game is just how much I can make my character to my own specializations. While many people want the deep "consequences" of story driven choices, I revel in the fact that Elder Scrolls is about the story that Icreate as I play, not the story that the game provides me out of the box. While there are many amazing RPG's with some great linear stories that have "consequence" for your choice, those games will never live up to Elder Scrolls in my book, which make the story mine.

While on paper, there are less choices in skills that previous games, I actually find more choice. There may be less skills in number, but the variety that each of those skills has ultimately leads to more things that a player is able to do. Thus, I am able to create new types of characters that I was never able to create before, and as such, it gives me more enjoyment in the character development aspect than previous games. From a character creation and development stand point, Skyrim is by far my favorite Elder Scrolls game, with Morrowind a very close second, and Oblivion a slightly more distant (but not too distant) third.

Living World:
10 / 10 - Again, the best of the series as far as I'm concerned. The world feels alive, it feels like I am truly adventuring through a brutal, hostile land. Cities are now more alive than ever, with both scripted and random events that add to the immersion. NPC's feel more alive, and seem to have more to talk about when you talk to them. Quests are obtained by more than just "talking" to NPC's - NPC's will approach you, you will overhear arguments and conflicts, receiving and doing quests feels so much more natural this time around, than randomly talking to some guy on the street, and accepting a quest to go find his long lost heirloom sword.

Story:
8 / 10 - I said above that story isn't the main factor, and it's not. I'd like a respectable story at least, and Skyrim's certainly is respectable. But in all honesty, I've never played a Bethesda game for the story. Their stories have never been their strong point. It's an enjoyable story, with more choice than seen before in games like Morrowind and Oblivion, but it's not some incredible, mind numbing story.

Aesthetics:
10 / 10 - This doesn't mean specifically graphics - for instance, Morrowind at this point in time is a graphically inferior game, however, I still find it to have a very pleasing aesthetic style. On the other hand, Oblivion is obviously graphically superior to Morrowind, but I don't find it to have quite as pleasing of an aesthetic in many areas, particularly people. I think the game is absolutely beautiful. The color palette is gorgeous, the landscapes and environments can be breathtaking, the people characters have a great look. I can't really think of much I don't like about the aesthetics.

In another area of aesthetics, I absolutely love the UI, the menus, and the skills menu. It all looks so crisp and organized.

Bugs haven't been a problem, nor crashing, nor any of the other petty things that people have complained about.

So yea, at the very least, the game gets a 9, more likely a 9.5, and just for [censored] and giggles I'll give it a 10 just because it's my favorite game ever, and part of a group of games that stand on their own level above the rest.

9.8 out of 10.
i complain alot because i think thats a good way to see where games could improve. but its still the best game ive ever played. really long and so many different ways to play if you role play different types of characters. ex. i just took off the hud and its much better. tweek and tweek...

I will not lie, skyrim has great graphics and that helps a little bit. However it's story and horrible guilds are really what brings it down. Here's my rating of morrowind.
Graphics 5
combat 3
guilds 10
story 8

overall 10
Morrowind's graphics and combat are kinda bad but in my opinion that can be overlooked since they are only one aspect of the game. Morrowind also has alot of other stuff that when compared to skyrim makes skyrim feel very small.

-snip-
Here are my grades:
Pure, Raw Enjoyment: 7 / 10. While I very much enjoyed the game initially, Skyrim doesn't seem to have the same longevity as previous titles.

Character Development and Custimization: 6 / 10. I found attributes and the class system to give me far more depth to my character custimization. The perk system is a good idea, but as it is leaves much to be desired. In tandem with attributes, it has the potential to be the best character development system yet.

Living World: 8 / 10. While the environment itself is very pretty, NPCs are still glorified cardboard stand-ups that spout the same lines over and over.

Story: 5 / 10. Skyrim's writing is by far its least satisfying element, and good writing could extend its lifetime considerably. But most of the game's quests are so lackluster that I would rather do endless rounds of dungeon delving, and that gets boring pretty fast.'

Aesthetics: 9 / 10. This is one area that Skyrim does very well. Still, I would give Morrowind a 10 in this field.

If I were a teacher, Skyrim would get a C from me. 75%. If Bethesda were a student in my metophorical class, I would berate them for producing work that, while passable, is below the A-grade work they have done in the past. That being said, a C is by no means an F. Five months ago I would have given Skyrim an A, but it just doesn't that the staying power for me that Morrowind did. Can't comment much on Oblivion, I only ever played it for about 40 hours.

I would give it an 8/10. I've sunk about 100 hours in it so far, which is a ridiculous amount of time in a couple of months for me.

I'm docking 2 points mostly for the story and quests. As much as I respect Bethesda for being the king of open world RPGs, I think they really need to get their writing department up to scratch. Oblivion and Skyrim both had very dull and generic main quests. Also, I'm also not a big fan of the "side quest = one linear dungeon with the quest item at the end" design. Personally, I think MMOs have more interesting quests than Skyrim.

I would give it an 7 or maybe 8. The lackluster writing not to mention glitches, some of which still persist almost 5 months after release, definitely take it down a few notches.

Yeah, it's kinda sad that even with the latest patch and USKP I still run into glitches
