Seriously Bethesda? LAZY

Post » Mon Jun 04, 2012 9:46 pm

Are you asserting that the use of the word "lazy" in a post is indicative of trolling?

It does seem to be one of the popular talking points.coupled with fanboyism well ..

OT Why are there no young Mammoths.

Deliberate design decision != running out of time OR laziness. (I seriously doubt that anyone thought they'd need more than one kid model.)
I don't know. I'd be surprised if they were totally satisfied with the implementation of kids. You could be right, though. I'm eager to hear from them.

Wow. People are such really devoted fan that they're suggesting one child model is sufficient? How much does Beth pay PR plants?

Well, what I find to be even more popular is someone tossing out the word "troll" every time someone dares to criticize the game-- on any level.

And seriously, let's not feel bad or sorry for Bethesda guys. These developers just produced a game that, to date, has done over $620 million in sales. $620 million USD. And you think their "feelings might get hurt" because of some forum rage? Are you serious?

To be honest, I never noticed the kids all looked the same. I stopped paying attention to the little f***s after I realised that, even as the big bad wolf, they cannot be stooped. Having every minor in the game insult me or tell me they want to fight me and basically showing no respect for my big Nord warrior is only slightly helped by the ability to play tag or hide-and-seek with the little runts. Although I willl admit, Babette is amazing.

PS. anyone know why they all have American accents and not Arnie impersonators like their parents?

In the grand scope of things, a limited number of child models is a doable evil that a developer can live with, especially if children don't really have much to do with gameplay in the first place.

With children's limited interaction with the player I feel that a developer is okay with making the choice to not add as much polish, i.e. a few models, as they would in other areas of the game.

Personally, I would have chosen to have more models for gear, i.e. say two-three different types of Glass Armor, rather than have a handful of extra kids.

Shouldn't you be spending time with your family instead of chastising someone over a video game forum?

Isn't this forum for "general discussion," i.e. a place where we can talk about what we like and dislike about the game?

I think families should be left out. If you play all day while your family gathers without you that's cool. If you go hang that's cool. Nobody really knows anybody on here. My family could be the Manson family or the Brady's. Point is it does my matter because what you do on your time with whoever it may be is your business. Get a job, go outside, I hate those quotes. I once was on a forum complaining about the PSN outage because my Netflix stopped working and some kid said try going outside there is life beyond video games. Funny thing was I was on a day hike with my dog and just stopped for a break and had my phone. Moral is keep personal stuff out. It's only your own business.

And you wonder why people call you a troll. You go to the official forums of the company that makes the game you played, insult them, and when the devoted fans come to their defense, you accuse them of planting PR people.

Give me a break.

If you're going to claim your complaint is so valid, at least have the common decency to show the same respect to other people's opinions.

Argonian and Khajiit kids could have been funny... but I'll give Bethesda what's theirs, the diversity and detail is clearly improved from Oblivion. Having kids is better than not having kids, now they need to diversify the models... they are improving, but with small steps. One could expect bigger steps from a 5 year release cycle.

That's kind of why I said it.

Calling someone out on a video game forum to be with their family is pretty much equal to getting on a video game forum and complaining.

That's the least of it. There are numerous lazy or downright bizarre design choices dotted in this game. All very minor, but pretty apparent in the end.

I hate them so much that I don't even bother looking at them. They're lucky I'm not playing with mods yet. And that stupid old woman who keeps telling me "come chat with an old woman...blah blah" she's sooooo gonna die soon.

Sure it is. It's just not something that needs attending to (like a broken quest/object/NPC).

It is, however, a perfectly reasonable detail to point to Bethesda so that they may keep it in mind for future games. I know such things might seem like trivialities to some but that's what you get with a highly detailed game of this nature. The more detail, the more easily it is to become immersed. The more immersed you are, the more jarring the break in immersion is going to be when you spot something that yanks you out of it.

Anyway, I think there's too many people feeding off one another here. The OP might have been a bit overly-condemning in his original post, but I think it was a perfectly reasonable point to flag up.

If it were brought up in a constructive way, along with other, more serious issues maybe.

As usual though 90% of the complaints are ridiculous and coming from people who are under the delusion that only they are 'vets', and that all vets of TES must hate Skyrim like they do.

The thing is there are real complaints to make, however I feel sorry for Beth if they actually do sift through posts to gauge opinion, as they will have to sift through pages of moronic drivel like DUDE KIDZ IZ ALL THE SAME to get to one person who bothers to write out constructive criticism.

I don't think a minor quibble needs to be paired up with at least one major one in order to be considered post-worthy. Besides, the more complaints you pile into a post, the more likely you're going to be confronted by another poster for "looking for things to complain about."

Just because it's trivial, it doesn't mean it's not worth a mention. Bethesda strives to make these games as detailed as possible. If we don't point out when we feel they're not being detailed enough, how are they going to improve?

Ever noticed any Redguard kids? No, you haven't, because they use the SAME MODEL AS NORD CHILDREN.

Not to mention all mer are apparently sterile. Where's little Gharbush in an Orc Stronghold, playing with a wooden sword and talking about how he wants to be the best chief the tribe ever had?

This complaint is ridiculous. What were you expecting, to have all the races represented in a land dominated by the Nords?

I don't know if they pegged the space limit, but you can only stuff so much data on a retail disk. Having more variety in the child's model only eats up said disk and leaves less room for more meaningful content.

So maybe it was an oversight, maybe it wasn't. Just be glad they're represented because unlike the other ES titles, they were non-existent. Besides, there's dozens of other activities to do besides taking note of the single child model in the game. Just load up and play.

Seriously? That's what you got from the discussion?

The problem is not that they're all Nords... it's that they all have THE SAME EXACT FACE AND HAIRSTYLE!!! A couple more faces and hairdos per gender wouldn't really hurt anyone, especially since advlts already have a ton of different hair/faces etc...

And yes, it's not a big issue... compaired to all the others...

They could have left children out altogether, and probably should have left them out. The previous games got along just fine without them.

I think the people saying these are not at the age to understand that and are just being emotional themselves.
Or those who say that "we should just be grateful for what we have" have probably had their game payed by their parents and are under the impression it was for free. ;)

The point is she doesn't LOOK like a redguard. At least, in my game.
