Seriously Bethesda? LAZY

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 5:27 am

Would adding an extra child model or two set you back that much? Jarring, immersion breaking, plain LAZY. All of the kids are recycled everywhere. For a studio that harps on attention to detail this is a lazy oversight.

If you're going to come and post nonsense then don't bother. This has nothing to do with MW3. Don't apologize on Beth's behalf. The fact that they took 5 years and couldn't add a couple extra models for the kids is stupid and lazy.

It is pretty dang lazy. Even Fallout 3 had multiple child models, that could wear miniaturized versions of just about every piece of clothing in the game. Right now they all look like clones.

You're pretty focused on kids. Haha jk. I never even noticed though. I do like the girl in Whiterun telling me every day that she works with her mom. It's fun most days, but hard work.

We already have a topic for how Skyrim feels unfinished, perhaps you guys should move there so we can have a deep meaningful and centralized discussion instead of 10 shallow topics?

No whats amazing is you bothered to even post this and consider it a serious problem, you need help my friend, like I said, if you have nothing better to do than nitpick over every 'definciency' and I loosely use the word, of a game instead of spending time with your loved ones this Christmas then I truly feel sad for you!

I can list a few things if you want me too that are more "major" then kid skins.

BGS has two possibilities 1. they were rushed by Beth Soft or 2. They are just a average AAA developer and adding fluff to their games.

Both are not avoidable and will eventually occur. Indie/small time developers however do and have proven to put more care into games then Skyrim and the majority of games out their.

The funny thing is is that if you look closely the children character models are different, not that there are many children in the game to begin with. If Bethesda simply made more unique hairstyles they could have had every kid look the exact same and no one would have noticed.

But focusing on the fact that the kids look the same is really unnecessary, maybe the fact that they are just about useless to the game would have made a better topic?

Shouldn't you be spending time with your family instead of chastising someone over a video game forum?

Isn't this forum for "general discussion," i.e. a place where we can talk about what we like and dislike about the game?

I have spent all day with them thankyou :) General discussion is one thing, this isn't though this is nitpicking on a minute scale and is often referred to as Trolling. If you haven't noticed there are VERY few positive threads for a game which is widely received as GOTY and fantastic, why do you think that is? People really don't like the fact that it has done so well and feel the need to sit about trying to put it down in any small way that they can. If you hang around these forums for long enough you will get just as frustrated with lame meaningless topics like this, it isn't constructive OR anything that is going to change.

Let me rephrase what I meant. Basically kids in the game have almost nothing to do with the story and the game would be pretty much the same without them. While they do add some Role playing to the game, I just wish they had more depth to them. The Daedric quest for the Jarl of Whiterun's son sticks out because it involved a kid. The kid was basically the main character of the quest. It was interesting because it was unique. I just wish more quests were like this that involved kids.

The same goes for marriage, its mainly for role playing and the game would be the same without it.

The casuals love it. The vets think it's a turd.
I don't think it's a turd. Please don't speak on behalf of "the vets."

The lack of beast race or elven children does not hinder my immersion at all and it never will. Children are an afterthought in the first place, and I've had no problems with them not being in any of the past games. It's just a nice little bonus to see some walking around. An abundance of them would just be annoying, especially considering the generally low population of Skyrim as it is. It's a rare thing to see elves and beasts living in Skyrim, seeing them set up families would be even rarer, and when they did, they would hardly want to shove their kids out in front of the Nords during such a racially insensitive time.

It is constructive. It points out a lazy design choice. Should no one make threads like this, how in the hell would Bethesda know that we do care about details and that we do hope the next game will feature more character models for children?

Although, having elf and beast children would have made the cloned Nord children less apparent.

Velorien, none of your posts are anything other then defending the game. I've never seen a negative Skyrim post from you. I don't take your posts seriously. Sorry.
That's because rather than whine and moan like the majority of the forum, I'd rather enjoy the game I've been given. Of course Skyrim is not the perfect game. Of course improvements could be made. But it's not my job to fix them and any criticism I could give is going to be the same stuff that everyone else has said a hundred times over. Instead, I'd rather try to help people actually enjoy themselves, but I guess I'm in the wrong place to be doing that, because clearly everyone would rather be angry and go have a love affair with Morrowind than attempt to appreciate anything released in the present.

I defend Skyrim because I love Skyrim, the same as I love all the other games in the series. It has its flaws just like all of them, but I don't like it when things I love get crapped on, especially when they don't deserve it.

It's a legit topic and I agree. It's strange that there aren't any other races. I didn't want kids in the first place. The fact that they're mostly rude, invincible clones make them so much worse. Then again, most npcs are invincible. Well, not most, but way too many.

They're not lazy. Let's face it - Bethesda isn't one person. They're normal people having personal lives beside work. They do what they can in the amount of time they have. The solution would be to hire more people, and I'm sure they will after Skyrim's success.

I do agree with Cy Tolliver above however. What's with Bethesda and cocky kids, seriously? When I first came into Riverwood, this little 8-year old tells me I shouldn't cause trouble and that he's keeping "an eye on [me]". This is so wrong. If a mighty warrior with an axe on his back comes into town, the kids should either run away and hide behind their parents or perhaps salute me modestly.
