silenced weapons?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 10:07 am

this is the thread ive been looking for! as much as the silenced weapons dont act any differently with the enemy AI, being stealthy with silenced weapons feels so much better. :liplick: The infiltrator and perferator were ideal for crouching around unrealistically behind enemies and getting a sneak attack critical on the back of thier skulls. id enjoy more silenced weapons. the thought of silencer mods is keeping me on my toes in these threads

The only guns on Fallout 3 that felt like a warmth when firing were the Sniper Rifle and the Silenced 10mm. So adding silencers to any weapon (logical weapons) would be a dream come true.

I agree with that. A sniper rifle with a suppressor would be aaaaaaaaamaaazzziiinnnnggggg.

Whats the difference in caliber? (Is not a gun ifficienado.)

Picture: (Compares the sizes of various pistol rounds)
http://shooterscentral.ge/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/cartridges.jpg

As you can see from the picture provided the 10mm Auto is considerably larger then the 9mm Parabellum rounds, 10mm also has similar ballistics with a .357 Magnum so it can pack some serious punch. (The 10mm later lead to the development of the .40 S&W rounds which are also shown in the picture above)

I know I always thought that it was strange for a bullet that is supposed to extremely powerful somehow ended up becoming the ammunition for the standard peashooter. :tops:

The Pitt included the Perforator and the Infiltrator .. basically assault rifles with silencers attached.. (except there was no gun buttstock.. like the Gauss Rifle.) For some reason that always bothered me.
I enjoyed using the Perforator.. it was a little more powerful than the infiltrator. It also seemed to have the effect that if you did shoot someone in sneak.. their friends would either run away or seem to try to search you out sometimes..
Not always. I too didn't like it when you sniped somebody in sneak how their cohorts would just normally walk about like nothing had happened.. At the same time I hated melee characters that would just charge at you even though your shooting them in the head. RDR really showed how interesting more realistic gun damage could be.. it would be nice if they could somehow implement that into an RPG but I guess that would do away with HP's... or make your hp very low.
"i'm level 30.. I've got 20 HP's... yay!".. I don't see that as being satisfying for some RPG players.

I seem to recall having stated this before; silencers don't magically turn the sound of a shot into the sneezing of a kitten like in the movies.

They are still very loud affairs.

I cant remember what game, I want to say Hitman, but I know some game went and let us use silent weapons, and it sounds like a 'thwump thwump' kind of noise, which I've read is the accurate sound.

Taking away hp would really undermine the RPG.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qZU5TGljAmw&feature=search you can hear a Beretta, both with and without "silencer". It's indeed as quiet as it's in sneaky games and action movies, but it's still a noticable difference.

Silencers/suppressors can be very effective at muffling the escaping gases of the cartridge, but if the bullet is fired at supersonic speeds you will still hear a loud "crack" from the bullet breaking the sound barrier. Some ammunition manufacturers develop subsonic ammunition for this reason. Certain calibers, like .45 ACP, tend to be relatively slow moving in standard loadings anyway. In the case of a good suppressor and subsonic ammunition, often all you will hear is the sound of the action operating (comparable to a staple gun).

And there we have it. I was just going to edit my post, but actually I rather someone who really knows his guns to tell us and who is better at doing that than the developer himself? :)

Oh well, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YeKquXp8gKY&feature=search you have a supressed AK with subsonic ammunition for entertainment. The cute dog is just a bonus.

I'd think it's quite obvious you can put suppressors on various guns with the Mod feature...
In one of the first previews/interviews they even say that "You'll be able to put silencers on your guns". Maybe not straight out like that, but somewhere along the lines of it.
And yeah, the 10mm was a proper waste of time seeing as it was one of the only guns that were suppressed, as well as having REALLY low base damage. I still enjoyed playing James Bond in The Statesman though :ninja:

I'm pretty sure the Infiltrator and Perforator were both silenced Assault Rifles from FO3, you could get both in the Pitt. :tops:

The dart gun made from the schematic in FO3 was also "silenced", but aside from the crippling poison effect, it looked more like a child's toy than a serious weapon... =p

Not the PC user-created mods! :slap:

The IN-GAME weapon-mod feature they announced ages ago.

Points for whiny enthusiasm tho. Means you're excited like me! :fallout:

Also most "standard" modern supersonic loads tend to wear out supresors, even the ones that are designed to slow down the projectile to sub sonic velocities. Granted some of the high end ones are suposedly rated for several thousand rounds.

Thats debatable, even when slitting someones throat, its not a quiet kill, theres a lot of gurgling, struggling, coughing, its not a pretty scene. The movies portray this sneak attack wrong.

Yeah, I guess I'll buy into the debate. I agree on what you said. That said, I wouldn't stab there. A good spinal shot to the lumbar section or an even better one to the back of the skull, near the vision center is the most effective. Less blood loss, more paralysis, quicker.

Eh. It's less messy. Not my preferred weapon, but that's the best idea if that's your choice.
