Sky Boost by Alexander Blade

http://alexander.sannybuilder.com/Files/tes/SkyBoost_r2.zip

THIS DOES WORK WITH WINDOWS 8 BETA.

This is written in c++ and is being separately maintained and developed by the author. It is based on the original code created by Arisu. I am aware that there is some confusion here about the differences between TESVAL and SkyBoost. Alexander has posted that his version is still in testing stages and not for redistribution. I am adding this link for the convenience of those who want to test this out.

Please discuss his mod here until he gets his own thread started. Please do not discuss questions about this mod in the TESVAL thread.

Okay , I'll start separate thread for SkyBoost tomorrow  , but the point for now is that SkyBoost may have glitches from the TesVal code so it's necessary to fix all that we have now in TesVal and only after this continue with others

Regarding questions in previous thread

1) TesVal is SKSE plugin . SkyBoost is asi plugin for asi loader (asi loader is dinput8.dll) , SkyBoost has no ScriptDragon binding , it is only using the same way to load libraries with asi extension as ScriptDragon does (using asi loader) .
2) SkyBoost is based on TesVal code and has additional improvements which in the current state (r2) can get you few more fps than TesVal .
3) To determinate SkyBoost load state you can look into asiloader.log file and you should see there something like ASI loaded : "SkyBoost.asi" at 0x02570000 . Due to many mods which are dealing with memory patching you can't know for sure that SkyBoost or TesVal did memory patching correctly (addresses can `collide`) . In the r2 version of SkyBoost i did additional code to prevent such `collides` but I'm not sure how efficient this preventing is so I can tell you that if you can load the game then SkyBoost is definitely working .

So far SkyBoost r2 is working for everyone , am I right ?

If you have some little bugs like corpse disappearing etc then do all this steps beginning from the vanilla game one
- 1 try on vanilla game , if you have the same bugs then it's up to beth to fix this , if you have no bugs then (2)
- 2 try with TesVal , do you have bugs ? if yes then post the bug here and mark it as "TesVal glitch" and provide the game save file where the bug can be represented , if you have no bugs then (3)
- 3 try with SkyBoost , do you have bugs ? if yes then post the bug here and mark it as "SkyBoost glitch" and provide the game save file where the bug can be represented , if you have no bugs then whats the problem ?

Looking down from Dragon's reach:

Vanilla Skyrim: 20 fps
SkyBoost: 27 fps - a 35% gain!

I haven't tested other places but I'm hitting 60 fps a lot more frequently.

One quirk though: When I turn and look somewhere I get a certain fps (which is well above vanilla)... if I wait a couple seconds it will then increase to the max fps. Vanilla Skyrim and TESVAL do not do this.

Core 2 Extreme X9000 3.0 ghz
4 GB DDR2 667
GeForce 8800M GTX w/SLI
Win 7 64-bit
1080p Plasma tv being used as a display

From dragon's reach:
vanilla: 22.6
tesval: 26.2
skyboost 26.2

i5 2500k , hd6870, 8gig ram

no difference from either version, but 15% over vanilla.

Hey Alexander,

Have you shared these changes with Arisu/Ianpatt for consideration into TESVal?

Good to see more people working on this, but hopefully we can keep the plugins consistent while providing two different methods to use the same code.

Not sure how it's running compared to tesval, but it's still running just as smooth as ever.

Like I said before Skyboost r2 is conflicting with SKSE itself (not plugins) and causes my game to freeze while loading a save game. I have tested this many times and running the game with SKSE (with or without plugins) the game freezes every time and without SKSE it works every time. Nothing shows up as wrong in any of the logs so I don't know what is causing this to happen.

PS. I never had a problem with Tesval.

Where are you putting the SKyBoost.asi file?
Do you have a TESVAL.dll in your data\skse\plugins folder?

What version of SKSE are you using?

Everything is working fine, and I'm running SKSE for another mod. No issues at all for me.

Dragonreach
vanilla 26
Tesval 26
Skyboost 31

(I'm capped at 31 with FPS limiter)

Version two works even better for me.

Markath is a beast of a place, so I tested there with settings maxed and various texture packs/mods/etc - MemInfo shows me using 2GB

Vanilla - 33
Tesval - 39
Skyboost R1 - 40
Skyboost R2 - 43

This works very well and doesn't seem to have much downside. Much like TESVAL. Both are great and have very little to no conflicts or downside at all. Doesn't matter which one I use since I have SD and SKSE, for different mods.

I put the dinput8.dll and skyboost.asi in the Skyrim folder same as Enbseries and SKSE.
Like I said I did this without any SKSE plugins and I removed Tesval when I first installed Skyboost.
I am using the latest version of SKSE along with the latest official patch.

Why not make it an SKSE plugin?

I hate all these extra loaders this game is producing.

TESVAL if you want an SKSE plug-in. This is coded the way it's coded because that's how Alexander can get these results. :)

I suppose that those who only use Dragon Script dont feel left out? because not everyone actually uses SKSE

It boosts areas with a lot of CPU intense things, such as areas with too many NPCs. Dragonsreach doesn't have that many so it won't see a big bump.

I have occasionally had Skyrim freeze on start if I attempt to first load a save (via continue or manual load) that starts off in an outside location with lots of things going on at once (Whiterun being the most common culprit). If I load another interior save first, and then load this troublesome save second, everything works as it should. This issue was happening to me before I installed SKSE, and continues ocassionally with SKSE+SkyUI+TESVAL, or SKSE+SkyUI+SkyBoost. I don't think anything is specifically wrong with any of the addons. It is the game choking for memory, and some addons may be making the issue more apparent.

I'll try this again, then.

All of you asking for an SKSE plugin version of this realize it sprung from an SKSE plugin, and was made in an attempt to make a version that does not require SKSE?

Oh, and even better, you don't need Script Dragon to run this, for the other people complaining about extra loaders the game is producing?

And all of the above was easily found with a little research on this very forum.

Wait, all I did was replace one file with another, and dragged 2 script-helpers in the main folder. The one I replaced has to deal with the same "mod", SKSE.

What are people arguing about again? I missed it.

Nevermind.

Win 8 is not mentioned in either of the first two posts and i was under the impression that was the main reason for this being separate from TESVAL.
