SkyBoost (topic 4)

MSI Afterburner: http://event.msi.com/vga/afterburner/download.htm

Enable the on-screen-display with GPU usage and you can monitor it in-game.

Game crashes when I've got MSI running. Dammit!

Overlooking the Tree @ Dragonsreach

Vanilla - 21 fps
SkyBoost - 21 fps

I have no clue of what I'm doing wrong, the asiloader.log says;

loading asi plugin : "SkyBoost.asi"
asi loaded : "SkyBoost.asi" at 0x729B0000

So I guess it loads?

Not using TESVAL.

This is so frustrating, I REALLY want this mod to work!

My rig is

GTX 560ti OC
i5 2500k
8 gig ram @ 1600Mhz

Having a hard time believing that my GPU is the limit.... :/

wedis
try different positions and locations

Also tried this, in riften for example... Getting around 35-40ish fps with vanilla and skyboost

Hrm, my last two lines show a different address:
loading asi plugin : "SkyBoost.asi"
asi loaded : "SkyBoost.asi" at 0x68D40000

...me thinks you aren't at the proper version of Skyrim to use this.

If you're using ENB, that would be why. Skyrim + ENB with Afterburner running in the background = crash on startup.

Meh, I'll leave it then!

Discarded arrows sticking point first in the ground everywhere.

Is this possibly connected to skyboost or a vanilla thing? Otherwise I've seen nothing that might be called a bug.

this is a vanilla bug.

ENB works fine with MSI Afterburner, just the OnScreen-functions do the trouble (as most other programs with OnScreen-features also do).

I love this mod, thank you so much for the work that you have put into it. I can only imagine what the game would be like if Beth had compiled the game with the optimizations in the first place.

you could try EVGA precision. As previously mentioned, you'll have to disable the FPS monitor if you're using ENB series. Fraps can give you framerate though.

Another good program to use for GPU Usage monitoring is Sysinternals Process Explorer.

I gave Skyboost a shot and it worked well at the beginning. Over time however, it seemed to make the lag much worse. It would depend on how many different areas I went to. After about an hour on average I'd get much more choppy than without it.

What I found is that when I removed SkyBoost everything was just a hair slower, but it was consistent over the long haul. One piece of anecdotal info is that it seemed loading zones without Skyboost enabled took much longer, but each time they loaded things would be much smoother. Each time a new area loaded with SkyBoost enabled I'd lose a few FPS until eventually it would become unplayable.

I have no idea why, but it seems like with SkyBoost in place textures aren't unloading as they do with vanilla. Though I imagine this is totally in my head. It just seems better for long sessions without the boost.

System Specs:
Phenom II X4 965 3.5ghz (not o/c)
4GB RAM
9800GT 1MB

Is my issue simply because the Vid Card is the bottleneck? Why would it be better without Skyboost?

There's no benefit to running both at the same time. SkyBoost is a fork of TESVAL and contains all of the optimizations in it.
Thanks chief!

@Spuddle2012 -
I think you are right about your 9800GT bottle-necking your system, although I think that would depend on what resolution you play at.

I am amazed by your works. I might not understand how you work this magic, but as a laptop user who suffer(ed) from lag, I thank you all.

EDIT: No, I am so amazed it's unexplainable. I can run Skyrim on maximum everything, with HD world textures, except anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering. I have to have that on 4 samples. Yet I can still attack a guard in Whiterun and get swamped without a single amount of lag.

I'm on a 1 year old $850 laptop.

1440x900

Though I would think I'd see the gradual decrease in FPS with or without SkyBoost. As it is, I only see it with. Weird.

For those having issue running MSI Afterburner OSD alongside this mod or any of the injector mods:

-Create a custom profile for TESV.exe in the OSD menu
-Go to MSI Afterburner\Bundle\OSDServer\Profiles\TESV.exe.cfg and open it with Notepad
-Under the [Hooking] section add: EnableDynamicOffsetDetection=1

Now you can launch your game, still have your OSD, and not CTD!! I didn't get any CTD's due to Skyboost, but I thought I would share the info here because I saw several people having issues that may be related to it.

Is it that hard to read?

No, you can only use one of them.

Am I still missing something here? I get the best results with both. I have since TESVAL 3 and SB r2. With SB I get 55 FPS on the steps. With TESVAL I get 49. With SB and TESVAL I get 55. SB causes stutters, TERVAL doesn't. When I use both I get the FPS of SB and the smooth turning of TESVAL.

Does it not work like that for anyone else? For the record, I have an i7 740Q @ 1.73GHz (Pretty much the lowest i7 you can find), Raedon HD 6570M 1GB GDDR3 (It's not even GDDR5), 8GB RAM. All in all, a great laptop, but it's still a laptop. My CPU should be worse than any gaming desktop and my GPU is just average when compared to a desktop.

EDIT: I tried playing on my other laptop, I got 74 with TESVAL, 82 with SB, 82 with both (but smoother). That's on an ASUS RoG with an i7 @ 2.6GHz, GTX550 2GB, 8GB RAM.

I know that this is just an extension of TESVAL, so running both SHOULD be pointless. But, for some odd reason, running both improves anything load related. Fast Travel -> Whiterun resulted in an instant 67 FPS with both whereas it took a good 4-5 seconds to get to ~65 with only SB. Do you think Alexander could have missed a line of coding somewhere?

just tested witherun without SB, had also massive fps drops, then tested it with SB, same maybe worse, hard to tell... and tested again without SB, this time it wasn't that bad, almost nothing, don't know there seems to be something wrong with witherun, but i played a lot before and never had those fps drops O_o

markath runs smooth with and without skyboost, with maybe 5+- fps more

btw i forgot in the first post, i also have skse installed, thats why i tested tesval before skyboost, there i first experienced those fps drops, then i tested skyboost, and there was no difference, then i uninstalled it and the fps drops where gone, but now im confused, because just now in the test i also had fps drops without any of those 2 mods at least the first time...

well first i was sure those 2 caused those fps drops, because with them it was the first time they appeared, but now im not sure anymore

Pure magic... unbelievable!!!

I've got 2 PC's:
PC 1 = I7 920 (o/c @ 3.6GHZ) with GTX560TI - running full 1920x1080 with most things on high/ultra (avg fps 50-60)
PC 2 = I5 2500 (o/c @3.6Ghz) with only a GTX260 GPU - I've been running Skyrim in a window & 1440x810 with heavily tweaked ini to get a decent FPS.(40-60)

Of course in some of the towns (Solitude/Markarth/Whiterun) I've been seeing some low FPS & stuttering.

I figured my GTX 260 machine had a good CPU - so I'd try some tools to get better performance & try to get full screen 1920 x 1080.

Tried TESVAL & Skyboost r3. (Using FRAPS to measure)

Test 1 - Markarth bad spot:
No accel 30 fps
TESVAL 37 fps
Skyboost 51 fps!!!

Test 2 - Solitude bad spot:
No accel 38 fps
TESVAL 43 fps
Skyboost 55 fps!!!

That's right - in the CPU bound areas in the cities - I'm getting a massive boost to my FPS with a lot less stuttering, I'm even getting a slight (2-5) FPS boost in forrest areas.

On my GTX260 I'm now playing full screen @ 1920 x 1080 (instead of 1440x810 windowed mode) & getting an average FPS of 40-60 (I still have a tweaked ini with custom settings, but the difference is amazing.)

I'm also now running this my main GTX560TI rig & again I'm seeing no loss of FPS in cities (which I was) & less stuttering on all areas (now very rarely < 60fps.) Using a standard ini (all set to max except shadows = high.)

Clocked in over 15 hours on both machines with Skyboost running - no glaring issues. Getting random CTD (no error msg) on main rig (after 3-4 hours continuous play) but I don't think it's Skyboosts issue - anyway that's what F5's for right?

Kudos to you sir.

I was hesitant at first since I had a bad experience with ScriptDragon but this rules :D
Slight increase in maxFPS and increase in averageFPS. Your mileage may vary but this is definitely worth checking out.

Skyboost noob here. Is there a way to see if Skyboost is actually running In Game? Because TESVAL is not working for many reason, but it seems that Skyboost neither... In whiterun, i'm running in the bad spot with 21fps and with skyboost... 21fps.
