Skyrim feels more like Fallout than The Elder Scrolls

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:38 am

I personally thought fallout 3 was a terrible game. It was a terrible sequel that did not capture the true charm of the original 2 games at all. For one thing it seemed to take itself way too seriously to be as campy as the original 2. Skyrim is not campy at all. it's an epic fantasy setting. its a tad on the over the top side but that is to be expected. I do not see how you could possibly compare Skyrim to fallout three. except for naming abilities perks as a stupid gimmick. which one of my first things I'm modding when the CK comes out is to get rid of all instances of the word Perk, and changing it to ability as it should be.
I never got how something could be a "perk" without an attribute.

The flat tundra around Whiterun reminds me of the Mojave. Some of the bandit armor reminds me of Raider armor.

Fallout 3 = Oblivion with guns and radiation.

Skyrim = Fallout 3 with swords and magic.

But Fallout 3 had swords

Skyrim is not Fallout 3 with magic, it's "streamlined" Oblivion :hehe:

Nothing is like Fallout 3 at all. Apart from graphics, Fallout 3 betters Skyrim by a far margin.

In Oblivion eating Venison healed your hit points, many of the food items had various alchemical effects that could do more then just healing a few points of damage. Food as a method of restoring hit points is in just about every RPG game ever made. In skyrim they simply removed most food form the alchemical tables and gave them simpler effects. Food, Potions, stimpacks its all the same thing really.

How does that make them Talon Company? An organization being hired to kill the MC of a game isn't original. It is infact quite common. You can't join Talon Company, nor can you wipe them out completly. (unlike the DB). The contracts aren't written alike either aside from ordering your death. They are completely different. I fail to see what they have in common. Talon Company was also predictible and would show up regardless of your actions. Something actually has to trigger the DB sending an assassin after you. The Thalmor can carry a contract for your execution, does that make them Talon Company?

Your not stupid but your entire argument can easily be twisted to say that Fallout 3 feels more like Oblivion.

Sub Rosa debunked your statements 100%, you’re attempt at a comeback failed miserably. You were shown a concise similarity and still failed to grasp it. No ones saying the talon company is the dark brotherhood DUH, just the way they handle contracts, get it? Skyrim is the only Tes game where there are people who carry around written death contracts, between the making of oblivion and skyrim fallout games did this, get it?

To the original OP yes there are similarities but apparently since its kind of visual art, then opinions will vary greatly.

To me, Skyrim seems more like Fallout 3 (with a different setting, obviously) than the sequel to Oblivion.

People said Fallout was "oblivion with guns" which it wasn't. So I was waiting for someone to say Skyrim was like Fallout. Which it isn't.

She's saying the dark brotherhood are Talon Company, and I'd say I debunked her statements 100%. They handle contracts completely differently(holding a note written in an entirely different style is not a comparison) and thousands of RPG games have food that restores hit points.
Also the DB carried death contracts on you back in Tribunal. So it only makes sense if the DB can come after you in skyrim they'd carry contracts on your life again.

Hey, that's unfair! Fallout 3 had a perfectly usable UI, not at all like Skyrim's :teehee:

To me, Skyrim seems more like Fallout 3 (with a different setting, obviously) than the sequel to Oblivion. Of course Bethesda is going to use ideas from Fallout 3, it would be stupid of them to ignore the progress they made in their last game, but Oblivion felt like it's own unique game to me. Skyrim feels too much like Fallout, it's hard for me to feel like I'm really playing the next Elder Scrolls game...

The looks of the NPCs and caves especially remind me a lot of Fallout 3.

Does anyone else notice the similarity?

Edit:

Just to clarify, I'm 100% talking about the way the game looks visually. I'm not trying to say that the gameply in Skyrim feels like Fallout. There are a few things gameplay-wise that seem to be carried over from Fallout (like the lockpicking for example) but I'm talking more about the art styles of the two games feeling too similar.

Skyrim to me is Fallout 4 medieval edition.

I'd rather play TES3 Morrowind any day

I went back and read both her post and the only one of you both saying talon company are the dark brotherhood is you.

(holding a note is note is not a comparison)
That was the comparison.

Click the link, she says skyrim even has Talon Company and her link goes directly to.... She basically said carrying a death contract makes the DB talon company.

That was the comparison.
But its a meaningless comparison lots of RPG games have enemies who carry contracts on the PC's life. Including the Dark Brotherhood in http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Tribunal:A_Dark_Brotherhood_Contract

Also when fallout three first came out people called it oblivion with guns. now it seems skyrim is fallout 3 with swords.

people can be pretty ignorant.

The rocks and "You have found ***** Location" made it feel aesthetically like Fallout.

Someone should swap the white of the snow in Skyrim with brown and grey.

That would give you Morrowind...

Anyway Oblivion is utter crap and I am glad Bethesda did not stick to that path.

That said, Skyrim I think takes a good mix of Fallout and TES.

Feels more like an open-world Bioshock. Now if only you could instant kill enemies that stand in water with electricity.

In case I haven't weighed in; Yes, Bethesda is now making Fallout in every flavor.

It's not just the OP, it's Fallout. It's the Fallout perk, lock, and character. Real difference right now is that use of skills improves them. That's a small techicality, but is a difference. Other than that, we are playing Fallout 4-

Most people, not all, play Fallout through several times and quit. Hence those posters wondering why they are slowing down playing Skyrim- it's not the food they ate for breakfast, its not their lack of imagination, it's not they are over- imersed and need to take a breather- it is exactly because Skyrim is Fallout.

There are some people who enjoy playing Fallout over and over, but not as many as do. If I'm wrong, throw a baloney sandwich at me- but it won't change we're playing Fallout 4.

I read somewhere that Todd said they learned how to make a video game making Fallout 3. they learned so well, they are still making it.

Yes, visually. I don't see it :P I just can't... Care to elaborate on the subject? :)

The only thing that reminds me of FO3 is the fact that half the NPCs look like they haven't had a bath in 50 years...lol
Atleast in Fallout they had an excuse. Just because your a Blacksmith doesn't mean you can't jump in a lake once in a damn while and clean up.... :P
