Skyrim feels more like Fallout than The Elder Scrolls

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 11:29 am

Yeah, I'm sick of all that radiated desert and robots shooting at me while I'm killing dragons. Yes some similarities like I've already listed. But outside of the normal leveling of RPGs and quests. Along with perks like fo, I really don't see it.

I'm talking about the visual aspect of it though, not the elements of the actual gameplay. Maybe you still don't see it, but I'm not trying to say the gameplay is similar, it definitely isn't. Besides maybe the lockpicking and finishing moves. Obviously there are no robots in Skyrim.

I see tons of Fallout 3 ported over to Skyrim. The sound you hear every time a quest updates is straight from FO3. So is the quest text that flashes on the screen. Having a system of perks is pure Fallout. Eating food heals damage (just like in Real Life, erm, I mean in Fallout). The lockpicking system is directly ported from FO3. http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/5292/tesv2011111818101060.jpg It is very clear that the devs took a great deal of ideas and outright material from FO3 and put them into Skyrim.
Morrowind had a few food items like crab or rat meat and bread, Oblivion had tons of food items. And the Dark Brotherhood appeared in Morrowind and Oblivion before the first line of code for Fallout 3 was written so calling them Talon Company is completely stupid. I'm guessing you never played the previous Elder Scrolls titles.

I actually feel good about removing the classes. Now, I can roleplay a lot more instead of the game holding my hand telling me what my skills should be.
The previous two games didn't really have classes, you just picked major and minor skills, and the best choice was to usually pick major skills you wouldn't often use so you could better control your level up.

I have to admit that coming off Fallout: New Vegas (not FO3) dlcs and going on to Skyrim didn't give much impression of general difference.
Eh but well I wouldn't be surprised to know that Bethesda took a few ideas (visually or gameplay wise) from that game and it's dlcs.

At any rate, my own opinion is the The Elder Scrolls series was going off track even at the end of Morrowind's development. Oblivion in itself was
a far leap from Daggerfall's detailed gameplay or Morrowind's alien enviroment/story. But do I despise these new games because of this? no, not at all.

Eating food did not heal your damage in Morrowind or in Oblivion. That only worked in the Fallout games, as it suddenly does now in Skyrim. You must have never played any of the ES games, or the Fallout games, or you would know that. OTOH, I have played both Morrowind and Oblivion, as well as FO1, FO3, and Fallout Tactics.

On the subject of the Dark Brotherhood, they never try to assassinate your character in Oblivion, and only did in Morrowind as part of the Tribunal expansion as part of the first quest of its main quest. They do they show up with a note on their body written almost exactly like the ones you find on the Talon Company assassins who constantly try to kill you in FO3. Obviously you do not know that either. So before you call something stupid, you might actually try to learn what you are talking about first.

There is certainly more TES in Fallout 3... It's plain that FO3 is more TES than Fallout*.
This would of course make Skyrim a lot like FO3, but it originates in the TES series.

*(Meaning the distilled essentials of course... The arts' irrelevant.)

I completely understand if you disagree with me, but there's no need to call anyone an idiot. Just because you don't see any similarity doesn't mean I'm wrong, and it doesn't mean you're wrong. It's just a matter of personal opinion. There are many things I think are similar besides trees, so no, that is not what I was saying to myself when I made this thread.

It doesn't have firearms, it doesn't have mutants, it doesn't have a 50's divergence, it doesn't use SCIENCE! it doesn't have branching dialogue, it doesn't have multiple quest solutions, it doesn't have an experience points = level up system, it doesn't have the same perk system, it doesn't have only 3 major settlements and 5 minor settlements, it doesn't have good NPC names.

Nope.
Can't see how it's like Fallout 3 apart from the obvious TES influence that Fallout 3 has. (Sandbox map, dungeon crawling design, button layout, gamebryo, dialogue pause and zoom mechanic et cetera.)

Actually... The underlying mechanics for magic and potions are almost identical... Fallout's Stealth-boy for instance is a potion as far as the engine is concerned... and critical hit effects are like the spell effects.

These games have very similar gameplay when one looks past the paint.

The looks of the NPCs and caves especially remind me a lot of Fallout 3.

Does anyone else notice the similarity?
Well... its not too surprising ~it is the same group of people, same artists and designers right?

Yeah, But Oblivion and Fallout 3 didn't look anything alike, so I'm just sort of wondering what happened with Skyrim.

I say fallout feels like oblivion.

But does it look like Oblivion? No. That's my point. I agree Fallout 3 took a lot of ideas from Oblivion, but the two games look nothing alike visually.

Just like how visually Skyrim and fallout have nothing alike.

Those who started their ties with Bethesda by playing Oblivion first will not understand the comment here. But for those who have begun with Morrowind, the TES line is rapidly turning into an arcade rpg shooter. And this is bad news for enthusiasts. The biggest mistake on Beth's part on Skyrim which would resemble F3 was to combine greaves and cuirass and directly lift slowmo scenes from Fallout 3 pipboy. big big mistake.

I've played TES 3, 4 and 5, I've played FO 1, 2, and 3.

Definately FO3 was more like TES than Skyrim being like FO. Skyrim has similarities to FO3 because FO3 basically was TES in sci-fi mode.

Also, I love Skyrim art style, the design of the world etc, and I prefer its nastier and grittier looking than Cyrodil, which looks fluffy in comparison :yuck: I also think Oblivion/Cyrodil looked worse art wise (not technical graphics wise) than Morrowind, Which also had a nice atmosphere like Skyrim.

Absolutely not. In what way does Fallout 3 remind you of Skyrim? I don't see it. At all.

Haha, this.

Edit: Other than the engine, and some gameplay mechanics, they are very different. I agree that they are somewhat similar, but I personally have very different experiences with both.
