Skyrim needed more time

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 9:03 am

I wished they tweaked/polished the game A LOT more, making better npc's dialogue, quests, and uberdreamlike material as in everything shown in the gamejam video.
I woudnt mind paying an 10 or 20 euros more for Skyrim if the game is that complete and polished in the end.

But i understand selling a game 20 euro more expansive might hurt initial sales, TES lovers will buy it, but newcomers rather go for an cheaper game i guess.
But thank god for the creation kit!!!!!

Ocarina of Time is SO NOT the best game ever. It is good, but not nearly that good. Majora is better and even it is not the best game ever.

I did not say that... i gave the answer to the quote below... Ps i love Majora's Mask too

There is no such thing as a perfect game, nor will there ever be

to be fair every game could use more time, but the thing about gaming companies (and to be realistic every company) is that they're doing this to make money. You could give a company like Bethesda 12 years to work on Skyrim and there will still be bugs, still be features that should have been added through common sense, still be unfinished concepts, and still be limited choices. I've watched a lot of documentaries from video game companies and the thing I hear most from them (especially from Bungie) is "We didn't have enough time." That right there is the number one complaint. No matter how much time you give a gaming company they will still complain that they didn't have enough time.

I would have liked to see more depth and meaning in some of the quests. Thieves guild, mages college... they all seem rushed to me. I didn't really care for the experiences. I also didn't find much purpose in exploring EVERY cave and dungeon after a while. Some are REALLY nice... but most are generic and pointless. Probably serve as a placeholder from some radient-AI generated quest. Would prefer more meaningful and memorable places to explore.

Dragons also don't feel right to me. At first, I thought they were pretty epic and scary. But then they become extremely common and easy. I think they should have been a bit better scripted.... more rare, and more fierce. Also should have been more rewarding to kill. Anyone ever play Neverwinter Nights 1/2? Those had some memorable freaking dragons....

All in all, I can't say I'm disappointed with the game overall because I've sunk more hours into it than any other single player game on the planet. Just... there's so much potential there. Here's to hoping they are more ambitious with TES6.

Let's see what they do with the DLC's. Honestly I have not the slightest idea of what might arise, but if the next DLC's to Skyrim are something like http://faqsmedia.ign.com/faqs/image/article/830/830610/geleto2_es4_si_worldmap.jpg , I will be happy. But please, Bethesda, TEST (exhaustively, I say) the content and the quests first. PLEASE. :)

Beth had plenty of time to get their act together. It had been 5 years since Oblivion when Skyrim came out. Beth should forget about a DLC and better start putting some ideas on the blackboard for TES6 instead.

They are doing that but in the mean time it'll be a slow process and they want to support their newest title. And at the same time Fallout 4 is in the works. and no it wasn't 5 years, it was 3 years. They started developing skyrim i think midway into fallout 3's development.

I think every single person on the earth understands that making 11.11.11 was more important for Bethesda than finishing the game, but however there is nothing we can do about it, sadly.

Hopefully we will get things like killcams for magic etc, which clearly should have been in the game at release. But to be fair it would have been a major pain in the ass for Bethesda to move the release date, but lets not forget that on the other hand its also a pain in the ass for the players to buy, in my opinion, an unfinished game.

I will defenetly think twice about buying another bethesda game, one cant defend releasing a game that feels like its only half-finished.

Edit: I think we all agree upon that Skyrim needed more time even tho they spent 5 years on it. Also there is not a single [censored] you can do about it, sadly.

Imagine what skyrim could have been if it had lets say an extra year to be tested and more features added in...the game is just good..it could of been amazing if Bethesda would of just took the extra year to polish this game and fix some bugs...who else agrees with me
They dont do what blizzard do, simple as that

Diablo 3 was supposed to be released 2010, its 2012 now and soon the q2, no release date yet

Perfection takes time.
just like WoW, SWTOR, BF3, for example.

The game should bave been released12-12-12, perfect.

HI mistaztreek! Good to hear from you.

Given the opportunity, I don't think anyone would've passed on postponing the release date and getting a better game in the process. But what about the implications? Would you be willing to spend extra cash to cover for the additional costs, i. e., one year of salaries, purveyours, contract cancellations, and so forth? People who run companies have all these considerations to contemplate. I think we need to re-center the discussion on what could have been done differently within the same time frame and other important constraints. To me, the lack of inventory space in horses is a clear example of a bad design decision that otherwise could have been great at no extra cost, no extra development time, no extra hardware requirements, none.

12-12-12? Then we one have something like 10 days to play the game before the end of the world :P

On topic: I think the game is fine head and shoulders above most things in the industry although the magic ctd is starting to annoy me

I waited long enough. I'm glad the game came out when it did.

Every TES game that comes out I hear this. It may be right or it may just be the way they do things and more time might just mean more things developed to the same degree as what's already there.

To me it felt like they cut a lot of things from Skyrim that should have bin in the game, and a lot of mechanics, that should, and would have existed if they had more time in it. Or maybe not, but I do agree more time wouldn't have hurt.

I know that. The fact is that people waited for five years. Bethesda were working on other projects, well, they are a business; they can handle multiple tasks just like they can multi task when they want your money. Besides, ideas for Morrowind were in the works even during Daggerfall.

by that logic, why not wait 2 years for an even better game? Hell, how about 3? No 4... 5... lets wait 10 years and skyrim would have been AMAZING.

The point is, you have to draw the line somewhere.
This is the epitome of truth. Hell, why not wait for another decade? Must be the best game ever with all that time. Im no really devoted fan, but this is hardly an "unfinished product." Seriously, just because it fell short of some people's expectations in some areas doesn't make it unfinished or mean that another year would have made it better.

Holy hell, they added an auto censor for the word "F A N B O Y" turns into "really devoted fan." This shi`tty auto sensor thing needs to go.

I think the game is great, but like you said they could have done so much more. I can remember getting lost in Oblivion caves because there were HUGE. I haven't gotten lost in a single Skyrim cave which says a lot in my book.

What, that they are not as frustrating to navigate? That they are designed more logically? Doesn't seem to be a problem for me.

P.S. I know that I must seem like a "diehard fan-boy" but I'm not... I don't think anyway...

Agreed. And while you have to draw the line somewhere it's obvious that Skyrim suffered a little due to the release date. The PS3 version is proof enough of that. I just hope TES 6 has a less restrictve deadline.

i agree, there are some pretty crazy dungeons in skyrim, but there isn't that sense of, should i go this way or that way. the path of the dungeons pretty much always lead you to where your supposed to go. Even in the Dwemer ruins.

Like I said i'm sure they are starting the pre-stages of TESVI right now but i don't think completely forgetting skyrim at this point is a good idea. They obviously want to continue tweaking the performance of skyrim on all platforms, give out free DLC from game jam and expansions for skyrim. That's more than most companies do right now. Capcom for example have been doing terrible with DLC imo
