Skyrim needed more time

Imagine what skyrim could have been if it had lets say an extra year to be tested and more features added in...the game is just good..it could of been amazing if Bethesda would of just took the extra year to polish this game and fix some bugs...who else agrees with me

Meh, for me most of Skyrim's shortcomings are due to design direction. I don't think an extra year would have resulted in a significantly better game...

This. With an extra year they could have patched the thousands of bugs they chose to ship Skyrim with, and maybe even attempted to do a quality PS3 port. But that wouldn't fix the arguments against streamlining, poor dialog/story, and shallow quest design (which appears to be by design, not lack of time).

I would have preferred to wait a little longer for the bugs. I enjoyed Skyrim (not as much as I expected to), but the bugs and poor PS3 version really irked me.

Of couse it would of beneftted from more development time. Realize that this is a business that produces game as such there is a timeline and projections that must be met. No one outside Bethesda knows how development went and what other factors besides the desire to make a good game where involved in the release schedule. With the commercial and critical success they have had I would say they where pretty succesful at it.

Is that right..? I'm pretty sure it went exactly like http://s3.amazonaws.com/files.posterous.com/temp-2011-02-23/vAmxpDgxxEiEmhwptxlJeJywvosDuofckJJbcFFacBpdfGhcbGcaItCbdydJ/mr-burns-wallpaper.gif.scaled1000.gif?AWSAccessKeyId=AKIAJFZAE65UYRT34AOQ&Expires=1331615489&Signature=nC%2BYsYc2X5Nlb5r0NPVgsz99zDY%3D all the way to the bank.

Skyrim could've benefited from another year but I don't think it would've mattered. The only thing that would've been improved is the technical aspect, much less bugs. All the other problems that Skyrim has, from a game design will still be there.

Another year would have been more time for the developers to conjure up more lies. You can set forests on fire and the animals will flock to a new location and make their homes there. Our radiant combat will astound you by reading your tells and interpreting your intent so that it can anticipate your next move. Btw, our advanced configuration AI can scan your system for difficulties and enable or disable features so that there will be absolutely no bugs or glitches with your rig.

While I generally agree, I almost had a panic attack when my Skyrim copy ended up coming a day after the release. I can't imagine being without it for another year.

Didn't they make the game to specifically be able to add in patches easier than their past games? but yea who cares what could have been, it is what it is.

by that logic, why not wait 2 years for an even better game? Hell, how about 3? No 4... 5... lets wait 10 years and skyrim would have been AMAZING.

The point is, you have to draw the line somewhere.

i'm far from a fan boy of skyrim but the thing is besthesda wanted the game out by 11-11-11 and then they needed other information from the users part to help find more bugs and glitches. but lets be realistic, even if they could delay the game it's highly unlikely the PS3 version would be any better considering they simply just aren't capable of coding anything correctly.

This thread smells like a "wouldn't be awesome if Morrowind was made now instead of Skyrim" thread

I would've waited for a proper ps3 port some people are still waiting to be able to play the game on ps3

And when Diablo 3 is the awesomest, most addictive Top-Down Action RPG in the last decade..no, wait, scratch that last bit. When Diablo 3 is the most addictive game in the last decade, you'll know WHY it spent so much time in development. It's one of the primary things I respect Blizzard for, there inability to be rushed or hurried when it comes to developing their games, even if that ends up making them take 1 1/2 times longer then most games take. It's the one game I'm looking forward to more then any other in the last 5 years, and I'm sure I'll end up spending the next 5-8 years playing it continuously, which I haven't been able to say about an Bethesda game since Morrowind. (Disclaimer: I enjoyed Oblivion mostly, and I actually love Skyrim, but the moment D3 releases every other game in my collection will be put on the shelf and will collect dust for at least a year before I even contemplate taking a break to play another game).

This, pretty much. While with n extra year (or 6 months) we may have had less bugs and the cool stuff we saw in the Game Jam, I don't think we would have a better story, dialogue, quests, guilds, etc.

I have the impression they would have implemented them if they had the time.

There's no point talking about what could have been. :(

We can only hope they're not rushed to hell in the next one, eh?
