I guess not. The genre is pretty scarce, anymore, in the gaming world. Used to be all kinds of them, now Skyrim is about the only example (I can think of) that came out last year. The only one big enough to get wide attention, anyway. So they just roll them into the action and best game categories.
If there was going to be a year to have one, this was it. Not just Skyrim but The Witcher 2.

Seems they didn't have a Best PC Game either. What sort of monkey outfit is this.

Those are all great games Skyrim it's being judged against. The only one I don't think it should've lost to is Soundtrack/Score (LA Noire won).

If they had an RPG category, it might've won. Not even sure about that. Skyward Sword and Deus Ex are just as cool.

Wouldnt of thought they would beat skyrim, good games but not as much content. Although i know its quality over quantity

I'm probably one of the few who really likes DA2, but I don't think it's as good or better. It's got some features that Skyrim is need of though (concerning story and NPCs). DA2 lacks all the things TES is good at (an immersive/large world).

those award thigns are all always wrong. portal did not have the best story, far from it, monstermid is the most boring premise ever for an mmo (and it ripped balloon tower defence, which it could never beat), portal is far form the best game and skyrim has, by far, the best (original) music out of any game made i the last few years

As the "voice of reason," you would think you'd be less subjective.

People defend Skyrim because they enjoy it and have opinions just like you do. There is nothing wrong with not liking Skyrim or thinking it doesn't deserve any awards, but you also have to accept the fact that there are a lot of people who do really like the game, and you're not likely to change their minds no matter how many times you tell them that you think it's shallow, not innovative, overly buggy, bad quality, etc.

I'm not trying to change people's minds and it doesn't change the fact that what I said was true. In the end it's a TES forum so I'd expect biased rather than what people really think and console player have a different opinion based on their 6 year old hardware.

I believe Skyrim should have won a couple of those awards if I'm honest. But at the end of the day, most of the games that won did deserve it; especially Batman: Arkham City, I thoroughly enjoyed that game. Skyrim is by far my favourite game of the year for 2011-- though late it may have been for 2011, but it still stands as my favourite game for 2012 thus far.

I actually had a short break from Skyrim to play Mass Effect 3. I'm one of the many that were highly disappointed with the ending in that game and am hoping for a DLC to fix my view on one of my franchise's. Once I'm done with my second play-through of ME3, I am jumping back into Skyrim. My Bosmer hungers for the hunt! And coin!

Have you read up on the Indoctrination Theory? It is pretty interesting; there is an article about it here: http://www.gamefront.com/mass-effect-3-ending-anolyzing-the-indoctrination-theory/
And a video showing all of the points on the second page of provided article.

I have played videogames that I thought deserved awards and they did not win any. I have also played videogames that I thought did not deserve awards and they won awards. It's just the way the world works.

What makes you think that TES5 is a RPG? Because it is TES? Even the race don't make a difference anymore and 90 - 95 % of the quests require just killing someone/ something , so if Skyrim is called RPG we could also take Tombraider in account.

I think any game with a quest in it is considered an RPG, nowadays. How far the genre has fallen. It looks like roadkill pizza.

So? There is loads of games that deserves the awards more than Skyrim.. Skyrim was eing so rushed to be released on the 11th. It's a damn shame.
