Smelly Passenger Kicked off Flight

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 1:15 am

Only if you don't give me your lunch money...

Having worked in several retail jobs, I have to say the most distracting customer is a smelly one. I could deal with rude, obnoxious arrogant customers that looked down their nose at you all day long, but hell hath no fury like an onion customer.
Thank god I do maintenance work for one of the wealthiest towns in America now.

thats probably because of the phonically symptoms of bad smells, seeing as how they can quickly cause people to become physically ill.

Maybe it would have been okay if he had bought an extra seat for his "smell"? Like Foul Ole Ron does? :P

Or maybe bought all the seats around him, that could work...

Well on topic..

..I agree. I despise sitting near smelly people during the short bus ride from the parking lot to campus. I've sat near musty people, people who smell like beef jerky, and people who smell like dog food. After a few minutes, you get used to the smell.. but anytime they move and cause their scent molecules to disperse ever-so-gracefully to your nose, it just hits you as hard as it did the first time. Personal hygiene is not hard. I couldn't imagine being on an airplane with someone that smelly. Seriously.

And I was JUST going to edit in that I'd been ninja'd about telling fishy he'd been ninja'd. You do realize that means I've been ninja'd of realizing I'd been ninja'd when I told another person he was ninja'd? Keep it up and it'll be the same as dividing by zero.

Too late.... http://www.phoenixkat.net/computer%20rage.gif

Some on topic: I really think this is too discriminatory. I can't deny my gut on this one.

I didn't notice in the article, but that guy better have gotten a full refund.

"As an airline, the safety and comfort of our passengers and crew are our top priorities. Therefore, any situation that compromises either their safety or comfort is taken seriously, and in such circumstances, the crew will act in the best interest of the majority of our passengers," Stuart said.

Also, I must agree with his statement.

I definitly think if he smells bad he should've been booted.
I had to sit right behind someone on a plane who absolutely wrecked of smoke, vile.
I'm very sensitive to smell. It wasn't a large plane either, a little midgetty one.

I think if they do remove him, they should book him another flight the next day and a night in a motel/hotel at no extra charge so he can smell clean. Or, if he asks for it, give him a full refund.

Then people would book flights a day in advance so they can get a free room for whatever reason. They should just reschedule the flight as a courtesy.

Same here, they paid for their flight expecting to be comfortable. That's like finding out that the disk is scratched after you've already bough the game. Honestly I'm surprised the guy would be so obnoxious that he would get on a plane of all things smelling like that; he can't have expected nobody to notice.

This is a legitimate complaint though. If you are going to go on a flight for 6 hours, and you have to smell that for the entire trip? Yeah, they would be hearing from me.

Well, what did he smell like? My grandpa has some sort of infection in his mouth. His breath is so bad it's made my mom vomit on two separate occaisions. That's, like, actual physical harm to someone.

Airplanes themselves don't even smell nice, even in first class.

ive seen people throw up because of smell many times, so its a safety and health concern, not just a comfort one.

Discrimination

Hehe, anyway I don't see anything wrong with it. Unlike smelly people in a building where you can just open a window, you're on a sealed plane for hours on end and that smell isn't going anywhere. Though I do hope he got some sort of refund... maybe he can spend it on a shower.

I've gotten nauseous from sitting behind an old woman who smelled like rotting fish sprayed with perfume, covered in greasy hair and lit on fire. Its a very valid concern and if somebody smells THAT bad, as in "bad enough to be kicked off an airplane", they need to be removed, asked to wash the hell up, and be put on another flight free of charge.

Millenium hand and shrimp, buggrit.

Still, as for the perpetrator, I guess he should've taken basic steps for hygiene. Hopefully he'll get a refund or whatnot.

I routinely soil myself when travelling on public transport, just to make sure no-one sits next to me. I like my privacy.

Actually, if you want to keep the seat next to you free, it's better to pat the seat invitingly and smile at people like this... :hubbahubba:

Hope you like driving too because it certainly looks like you won't be flying.

I agree with booting the guy. He reeked, apparently. Get him off the flight, let him clean himself up (surely there's a shower somewhere in an airport), and put him on a later flight. That or a refund. But I completely agree.

I would want the man of many smells to be removed, for obvious reasons.

If they kick him off they should kick off people who use so much perfume or cologne that if they stand still they leave a puddle. It all stinks. :yuck:
