Smelly Passenger Kicked off Flight

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 12:53 am

Tell that to some of the people in third-world countries.

I'm living in a (relatively) third-world country, so 0_o.

It's not as if third-world implies not having running water and some shampoo...

Would you please stop? In developed nations such as Canada and America, it is expected of people to bathe.

Now, back on topic. I wonder if they are going to create procedures to deal with instances such as this. Are they going to move them to a different area instead? Perhaps they could isolate them? I know that sounds mean... but... no one wants to smell other people.

Yes, I shall stop.

While I wouldn't like to sit next to a bad-smelling person, I have never heard of someone being kicked off of a plane for smelling bad. I can't even imagine just how bad the smell must have been for a person to get kicked off a plane for it. However, how would this situation be handled when it involves people with medical condition that result in bad odor? Isolating a person for that is pretty mean.

I was on a bus up in Aberdeen with my girlfriend last week, and some guy got on absolutely reeking of stale piss. The whole back half of the bus got off at the next stop and waited for another bus. Was enough to make your stomach turn. So yes, I agree overly smelly people should be removed. Just take a [censored] shower.

I don't really think my stance on it would change if it were a medical condition. Some people who have things such as psychosis or tourettes should not be able to really fly. It stems into a whole new branch of ethics. It's just an unfair procedure that I think they would have to find some workaround for.

If they kick him off they should kick off people who use so much perfume or cologne that if they stand still they leave a puddle. It all stinks. :yuck:

I totally agree. These people give me heartburn. I don't use aftershave or cologne but I shower every morning. Even when I was on the street I would scraqe together a few bucks and take a shower at the airport every few days, at least.

P.S. when I first read that question posted, I thought it said smelly CAT. All I could think was," what a bunch of idiots."

I'm not kidding about my 'not eating of the bean'.
And going to the bathroom for gasious moments (to fart) isn't an option when the expelled gas just follows you out of the bathroom and back to your seat..
Don't think people appriciated me on that flight..
Didn't get kicked off though :D

Come to think of it if this rule applied to Greek transport no bus or train would ever reach its destination, never mind hairy planes. The unique smell of unwashed 40 something Athens male at 8 am, garlic, failed aspiration sweat, garlic, last night's wine, today's sweat and today's wine and garlic.
I say they should have burned his clothes as an example. Pinned a note saying 'I offended consumers, kick me' to his vest (must have been wearing a vest, they always do) and sent him on his way.

It's sad that common decency in society is so uncommon.

Take a bath. Use mild or unscented deodorant.

Avoid perfume or use it sparingly....don't apply it with a bucket.

Be aware if you are getting to loud or obnoxious in close quarters. Watch your language in public.

This shouldn't have to be posted on a big sign for everyone to read, but you wonder sometimes.

I wouldn't let http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XNXIZuIBJKs&feature=related onboard either, it's an awful song :P.

Anyway, I don't really see how this is news, I mean it's not like it's the first time it's happened, and it's not all that unusual.

But what about all the frequent flies? They need a host?

I routinely soil myself when travelling on public transport, just to make sure no-one sits next to me. I like my privacy.

I wonder what the cause of his odor was. Was he elderly and incontinent? Was he reeeking because he was unwashed, or undeodorized? Was he sick?
Mentally ill? Did he realize he smelled unpleasant?

I have been around people who have bad BO, whether it is caused by poor Hygiene or personal Chemistry, it can be quite nasty to be around.

I just feel sorry for the person who sat in their seat after.

However people need to remember in the times before readilly availible clean running water, most people smelled like this. Well, maybe not like him, but think how you would smell if you did not shower/bathe for a few weeks.

Your body adjusts to those conditions, you would not smell as badly as you think,if you give your body an adjustment time--lets say 1 year.

I have not washed my hair with shampoo for almost 5 months.(if you comb it with your hand you would say i washed today with shampoo)

I just estimated upon that for the rest of the body.

Reminds me of one of my father's "Tells from Wal-Marts" . Anyway a person with really bad B/O (from whatever the reason) can be a health hazard so I heard :ahhh: .

Problem is, your hair does not have bacteria, or the same bacteria that your skin has, particularly the arm Pitts, crotch, and feet. When those guys start eating the dirt and skin oils then that is the problem. Well, the Bacteria farts are.

I have smelled homeless people, from afar, and your body won't adjust, it will just get stinkier. Of course, while you may stop noticing your own miasma, everyone else will think you reek.

Son, you live in a second and a half world country, then. At worst. I was a rich kid in a third-world country when I was little. Somedays I'd be lucky to have power enough to play mah nintendo, and water enough to wash the dirt off my face. Over here, though... unacceptable. At least dunk yerself in a lake if you smell that bad. There's no drought here or anything.

I spend ten hours a week on a packed bus and if I could, I'd also have the following people forcibly removed:

-people who listen to music way too loudly, so every other passenger can hear the tinny music coming from their headphones.
-people who don't stick to their side of the seat. Keep your dam elbows in!
-people who talk loudly on the morning bus. Keep it down, some of us want to sleep.
-people who try and engage me in any kind of conversation. 'What time is it?', is the maximum acceptable conversation I will have with a stranger on public transport.

As for smelly people, if you can afford the bus/train/plane fare, you can afford some cleaning products. If you had some sort of glandular problem I'd be more understanding, but every smelly person I've ever encountered on a bus has simply smelled of few-day-old sweat. There's no excuse for that. I paid my money to travel in relative comfort, I'm not spending an hour gagging into my scarf.

Might I just ask this:

Where does it stop?

This kicking people out of busses, airplanes, trains etc, that we don't like? - the people - that is - not the busses etc.
