Something i hope this game does not do

Post » Sat Mar 12, 2011 12:30 am

fallout 3 to me was a preety awesome game especially for the first 25 hours of the 50 i put in my character i felt like i was struggling for caps the combat felt satisfying and fun while also being challenging, exploring was worth it finding all these neat new weapons, caps, exploration in general I felt like i was really in the post apocalypse and struggling to survive and all was well..

then i got to around level 15 and the game suddenly changed i picked up my first piece of power armor and it seemed to me that was the game changer suddenly i was wearing this suit of armor that made me invincible almost even on the higher difficulties, my companions were either useless(all except fawkes) or extremely overpowered and would steal my kills and exp (fawkes), vats became incredibly overpowered to the point i could one shot anything in the head especially after grim reapers sprint , money lost all purpose because of all these big guns and power armors i was picking up making barter completely useless which in turn made repair semi useless seeing as i could just pay to repair all my weapons(use to cost a preety penny), all weapons to me became useless after picking up the AT-31 plasma rifle that thing could kill anything mostly in one shot even the enclave soldiers, ammo came by in such humongous amounts i never needed to worry about ammo(ended up with thousands of round).

all im saying is that i hope endgame dosent become like the previous fallout that was in my opinion its only downfall in my opinion endgame should be the hardest part of the game not a cake walk i can understand being more bad ass as i level up and see character progression but i wish the enemies would scale to at least moderately to said progression

I agree with you, I always got bored as better gear became available, you just nearly one shot everyone and are a walking nuclear bomb. You could always just use small guns the whole game and still have fun though.

And nothing is wrong with 50 hours, thats a long time for any game. People around here seem to take offense if you dont play at least 500 hours.

50 hours is not bad. My first character got to 62 and none of the following got past that point.

Just wondering why you bought an RPG game this big (FO3) if you only played one character.

well i started a evil character but i just kinda lost touch with the game the choices didn't feel that much different.. then i met a totally different issue

i wanted to make him a sneaky bad guy but for the most part other then stealing stuff stealth was sorta useless until... i got the stealth armor from AA then i felt like it was completely broken to a extent i could just shoot silenced weapons and move away and they would never find me

Well, the game was fairly limited but I hope you plan on creating more than 1 character in New Vegas at least.
Cause it's a lot more complex than fallout 3 was and is sure to give a much better roleplaying experience.

Power Armor wasn't even that protective on F3, it will be much stronger, due to damage threshold, in New Vegas, but will be ALOT harder to obtain.

i agree with the OP FO3 got too easy around level 15 and it just wasn't as fun after that, but new vegas will be much more difficult so its gonna be a lot different. we won't be able to max out all out skills, or SPECIAL, we won't have as many perks, the enemies will prob be tough as we level up so i'm expecting a challenging game.

a game doesnt need to be hard to be fun.

It really depends on the person. I know people that play every game on easy and just enjoy going through the motions. If I don't feel challenged by a game I get bored, because a big part of the fun for me is figuring out how to get through tough situations. I have to agree that the challenge in Fallout 3 wasn't very consistent. I realize that when you don't do linear level scaling like Oblivion (shudder) you're not going to feel challenged by every enemy (this is a good thing), but places like Raven Rock were a cakewalk for me at level 16 or so on Hard difficulty, which felt really wrong.

ya, i just like to kill stuff. challenge is ok, but if its too much its just annoying and boring. id much rather do stuff than try to do stuff

i agree i mean apparently in the original fallouts when you fought a BOS or a enclave soldier it was EXTREMLY difficult like they were guys you never wanted to mess with

This was also a problem for me but I think it will be better this time around. also that plasma rifle (A3-21 or something) is my favorite weapon in the game. :)

My only character (others I started I ended up erasing) had a total of like 175+ hours. Level 30. Got bored after beating all the quests available in the game and all DL content, so I scoured the Wasteland for all the outfits in the game. After about 25 of the 175, I got all of them, and repaired the damaged ones and had extras in case I accidentally went out, took damage, and their CND went down. (No life, but I enjoyed it)

Here's a radical idea. If you think that power armor makes the game too easy, don't wear power armor. If you think top shelf weapons such as plasma rifles or Gatling lasers or the infamous Lincoln's Repeater make the game too easy, don't use those weapons. Just because these items exist that doesn't mean you're obligated to use them.

Problem solved, you're welcome.

Why does selfgimping have to be the only choice?

If one has to try to avoid becoming too powerful, that just reeks of bad design (and imo should be called for).

As the game's original design had a level cap at 20, when you hit level 15 you're bound to be kind of a bad-ass, like it or not. They later raised the cap to 30, but apart from super critters such as mutant overlords or albino scorpions, the game was still balanced in accordance with that level 20 cap. In New Vegas they're starting off with 30 as a cap, so one hopes they can keep the game challenging through all 30 levels.

dont give crappy game design a pass because you can choose just not to do it...

thats like if the music of a game svcks just turn on your own through xbox, or if the ending of a game svcks make up your own, or if a quest is broken dont do that quest, or if a entire area of a game causes the game to crash dont go into that part...

im just saying half assery shouldnt just be avoided when they have the chance to fix it in the next game...
