That furry thread

Post » Wed May 02, 2012 6:25 am

Just wondering how many people on the gamesas forums are fellow furs!

Post pics of your fursuits and if possible where possible!
I also may as well ask if anyone knows of a way to get at least reasonable quality partial fursuits cheap! (they cost so much!)

I don't have anything against furries, but I'm unsure how well a topic like this will be taken. I urge people to just stay calm. Maybe it can remain open. Best of luck to you. *hands flame retardant shield*

I don't think it's a good idea to start a thread like that.

Eh, there's one on MLP, I'm not a brony and still have no problem with it.

Some people are just [CENSORED] and may flame here, this in not my intention, I just would like to know how many furs are in the gamesas community!

Huh, I guess there was a reason my insomnia decided to kick in tonight / this morning.

First let's get the obvious questions out of the way:

1. Just what the heck is a furry anyway?

Furries, in the broadest definition I can think of, are fans of anthropomorphism. Think Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck or Khajiiti and Argonians. Furries enjoy artwork, stories and other media that contain anthropomorphic characters possessing varying levels of human characteristics. Think Lion King versus Thundercats.

2. So what is a fursuit?

A fursuit is either a partial (arms, paws, head, feet and tail that is used while wearing clothing around it) or a full suit (head, torso, arms, paws, legs and feet and something like Under Armour underneath) that someone will wear when at a furry convention (or sometimes just for kicks). Partials are often cheaper then full fursuits - depending on the quality, partials can cost around $200-$500 or so, while full fursuits can go from $400-$5,000 (depending really on the quality and possible electronics inside). I know a few fellow furries that have gotten cheap partial suits for around $250, but the fursuit maker had just started out and isn't making them for that cheap anymore.

There was a furry thread a while back that managed to go a long way - if the intention is to keep this thread from being locked early, I have a few suggestions handy:
1. Don't link to FA, DA or basically any furry website. Point people to Google instead.
2. Don't feed the trolls.
3. Don't link to 2 Gryphon or Uncle Kage YouTube videos. They are not for children. Or babies.
4. Again, don't feed the trolls. Ignore them and let the mods sort them out.

I have nothing against furries but I have advice: whatever you do DO NOT image search furries. The mental scars are still with me.

I always wanted a had like Vulpes, you know, the fox head. I see girls with similar things but they're just fluffy hats with a tail and usually ears, I actually want a replicated fox head :)
Does this make me a furry

There is a website called Animal Maker's, Inc that seems to feature a very realistic fox head, but it is by no means cheap. It makes most full fursuits seem frugal by comparison.

As for if it makes you a furry... maybe?

Are furries attracted to hairy people?
I'm sure some are. Maybe a bit more than the general population.

Aren't bronies furries?
If we go by the definition I gave above, where furries are fans of anthropomorphism, then there is likely a subset of the brony population that are also furries. But being a brony doesn't necessarily make one a furry, or vice versa. I've run into bronies that had some choice words to say about furries, and I've run into furries who don't care for MLP. I happen to enjoy both.

MLP: FiM is, however, a good example of anthropomorphism.

Well, being a furry isn't really just about liking anthropomorphic animals, it's about meeting people with similar interests as well.
If you're willing to become associated with a bunch of people who like anthropomorphic animals then heed the words in my signature =).

We're weird, you may become a target for haters, and haters are gonna hate.
Although, as I've only realized that I'm a fur recently (about a month ago) I was quite afraid of telling my friends and others that I was a fur, as some people may react badly, usually because they've only been exposed to a bad stereotype (or a bad CSI episode...)
My friends have been very accepting of this, and for that I'm thankful, just be careful who you tell!

To be one of us, you should be an accepting person, if you're homophobic, please keep it to yourself as around 50% of us are homosixual or bisixual.
Unlike the stereotypes, these are evenly balanced, although with higher percentages than common people.
You must realize that some of us like anthropomorphic animals much more than others, as Pokoyo implied, this generally causes erotic anthropomorphic art to be created.
Just remember that you and only you control your browser, so if you don't like things, don't look at them.

I hope this thread doesn't take a turn for the worse.
So far, I am generally pleased by the lack of trolls and flamers!

Edit: I hope I didn't give anyone the wrong idea...

I can tell you that I'm definitely not a furry. So is the majority of people who watch mlp.

So, time to go, I better stay outside of this thread.

According to the most recent furry survey, these numbers are more or less correct. However, you also need to know that the furry survey, which is where I assume Shadowscales is getting the percentages from, rates sixual orientation on a 7-point Kinsey scale, which muddles the issue a bit. And self-selection bias, etc, etc.

I hope this thread doesn't take a turn for the worse.

I like Argonians and Khajiit in the TES universe but this term was unknown to me until now. I guess I don't fall in this category, but I can understand where the fascination comes from.

Hmm, could you link it, doubt I'd buy it but would like to see it. Last time I bought a hat I wore it in the shop, took it home for an hour and returned it to the shop within the next hour :P

For any information on the furry fandom, I suggest you look here! *snip*

My plan is, assuming my parents don't freak out when (and if.... Yeah, I'm not overly confident...) I tell them what a furry is (not many of negatively portrayed aspects included XD)
I do have about $300 AUD lying around, but I'll probably need an artist to do a reference sheet for me...
Another $20 gone from that I guess...
Unless there are any nice furry artists out there that are willing to do me one for free!

For a fursona (and fursuit) I'm sort of torn in whether I want to be a lizard or a wolf (maybe a fox too!), sorta leaning towards a wolf.

If all else fails, I'll try a tail and ignore the awkward stares I get XD.

I've worn my fox tail out in public multiple times - gotten some stares, but I live in a college town, so such things are kinda expected. And many other times there were 4-5 other furries with me.

And as for your parents, I'd honestly recommend you tell them. Show them the positive sides, of course. The charities at conventions, etc. The fact that Anthrocon makes the city of Pittsburgh $3-5 million dollars in a weekend.

Why do you need to tell your parents if it will cause hassle? My parents don't know about all of my hobbies or interests.
