This is what you want, so very, very much:
http://www.buy.com/prod/hp-zr24w-24-inch-performance-series-widescreen-lcd-monitor/q/loc/101/214928474.html#moreimg

You will not find any other IPS monitors that resolution in that price. IPS = better color reproduction, and extremely wide viewing angles. If you've ever used one, you'll hate every TN LCD you ever use again.

Ooh. That does look good.

5ms response time, that's the same as the Samsung, so I suppose there's no ghosting? But what does it mean when it says 12ms response time?

This also isn't a glassy/reflective panel is it? I hate those...

No ghosting... compared to other LCDs. If you've been using LCDs and not annoyed by their ghosting, you'll be fine. Only if you're switching from CRT to LCD would the ghosting on that one be a problem.

So, this is a really good price. I read it's going to go up soon, about 100 dollars? Oh boy, I gotta get this now...

Does anyone have this monitor? Is it good for gaming?

Reading more up about this monitor, it seems that it has poor black depth and contrast ratio.

Eh, I dunno. I may stick with that Samsung, because it has great blacks and contrast, unlike this HP.

With FF open, my CPU usage stays at around 50%. This isn't normal, is it?

Wow. Closed out of a tab I forgot about and it's back down to 1%. Thanks.

Can I get more advice on this monitor? Is it really worth going for this HP? It's not a gaming monitor from what I read, and I want a monitor primarily for gaming.

S-IPS panels typically have the best technology, but it's beneficial if you're using it for professional use as well that requires good color reproduction and saturation. Panels primarily for gaming in that price range and resolution size still mostly consist of TN panels since their response times are so low. TN panels have come a long way from the early days, so they're not that bad anymore. Extreme viewing angles will still svck though.

The first Samsung you linked is a glossy one, so you can throw that out. The second one is is a brand that I'm not all that fond of....cheap built panels to me.

Try giving this a look:

...it's pretty good for gaming.

If you looking for a gaming monitor use must look at input lag, especially on PVA and IPS monitors. This is a stat not normally shown that can cause problems in fast paced games. Basically, the rendering processor in the monitor takes a several ms to render the output. This is a delay between the monitor's onboard processor and the graphics card. IPS tend to have a input lag around 30-50+ms in standard mode. This may pose a problem. Some monitors have a game mode which improves input lag at the expense of color quality.

Currently, I have a Dell U2410 24" 1920x1200 H-IPS panel. Its a nice upgrade from the standard TN panels. It has a game mode that reduces input lag to around 15ms.

So, in reply to Tig's in the last thread, would http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103674&cm_re=Phenom_X4_955_BE-_-19-103-674-_-Product be an addition well worth the money to my rig?

It would be a substantial improvement; the "well worth the money" part I can't say.

For $60 less, you could get this; it would handle applications that don't need 4 cores just as well, and give you a better-than-a-lottery-ticket chance at unlocking the other two cores: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103846

I mean, I HAVE the money for it. I was mainly wondering if it would be better worth it to get the X6 rather than that. I just know that with my Athlon II X2, both cores can go into 80-100 with things I do a lot.

The X6 is still a curiosity until the early adopters get a handle on what it does and doesn't do well. If you're getting saturation on two cores, an X4 may well be worth it.

XPS Viewer seems to have problems for me. Whenever I try to do something rights based it comes up with this error message "The XPS Viewer cannot activate any rights management accounts on this machine". I was wondering if there is an easy solution.

I'm having real problems with games at the moment, to the extent where I can no longer play most games on my PC. After extensive uninstalling/reinstalling, I managed to get Oblivion working without all but the simplest of mods, and Mass Effect 2 loaded without the latest DLC.

Vampire TMB can load if I ignore the messages, some of the time.

Fallout 3 will not even start.

This is the message I get:

Any ideas, please?

Thanks - that sounds like it's it - but it says that it installs it to the directory that I specify.

I'm a complete nublet at this stuff - where on earth would I even begin?

So my PSU I bought finally arrived, problem is I don't even need it now. It was only 25 bucks so I'll probably keep it for a rainy day. I'm sure having those lately.

Just put the file in a temp folder, then extract to that folder. Then run the exe file from in there.

I've noticed my PC acting buggy after some trouble shooting I turned my attention towards tempurature. I installed speedfan (can't believe I forgot that when I first built it) and it showed my GPU idling around 70C and my CPUs both in the high 80s. I cleaned all the dust out and the GPU went down to ~63 and CPUs ~84. I decided to stress test it a bit with 30 minutes of intense gaming, (ultra high resolutions, lots of AI control, ect) and it only lasted 25 minutes before the game crashed and my GPU was at 96 and CPUs at 100. I then took as much off the case as I could and strapped it to an 18" box fan for the weekend. My temps all idled around 17 and the most intense gaming I could muster never got them past 30C. Also all my random errors and crashes went away for the weekend. So long story short (too late, I know) I want to cool my rig.

*The vitals are as follows:
Case - Rosewill TU-155 II w/ 500W PSU
Mobo - GIGABYTE GA-EP45-UD3R LGA 775 Intel P45 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU - Intel Core 2 Duo E7400 Wolfdale 2.8GHz
GPU - GeForce 9800 GT

In the old days I would have just drilled a bunch of hole in the case and put intake fans on the bottom and exhaust fans at the top. But I've been told that cases of today are designed better than ther were 15 years ago. (in regards to cooling). My question is do I just need to beef up the CPU heatsink and fan or can I break out my Black&Decker drill set?

*for some reason it not letting me put in web links

My GPU is idling at 65C so your GPU is probably fine, but your CPU is way high. You could try reapplying your CPU heatsink with a new layer of thermal paste and see if that lowers the temps.

Yes I suppose that would be a viable reason for over heating, suprised that hadn't occured to me earlier. Maybe I subconsciously just want to use powertools on my new toy.

I'll try that, thanks

Sorry, I don't use XPS with rights management, and I don't think a lot of people here do, so we don't have a direct answer.

I do know that they went from requiring a .NET Passport to requiring a Windows Live account to get the certificate you need to have an account with rights.

My college has students use Cisco Clean Access to get on thier network (even if using a wired connection), and they say it won't work without Symantec Endpoint protection. But I still have a subscription for NOD32. Does anyone know if it will still work because I do not want to sacrifice the security of my system nor use more resources then I need to.
