The Skyrim Civil War. Who's Side Are You On ?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 7:00 pm

It is so strange that people who support one cause seem to ignore some of the facts that put that side in a worse light or make the other side in a better light. I generally support the Empire, but I think the Emperor should have tried harder exclude the Talos worship ban, Ulfric should never have been offered free worship in Markarth, Hammerfell should have been excluded from the WGC as well and the Thalmor should not be allowed to have embassies outside Cyrodiil. Maybe things wouldn't have changed much since I doubt the Thalmor would agree to the WGC if it didn't ban Talos, but they should have tried. The Empire shouldn't hand over prisoners either.

Then why do I support the Empire? Because as I see it they have a more realistic plan for dealing with the Dominion in the long run and even though the Empire is only the remnants of the Septim Dynasty I believe they may re-establish Tamriel-wide peace, but who knows?
Certainly, there are good points and bad points to either side. I don't think most people are completely ignoring these bad points, but are busy advocating their own side and will thus downplay them or won't address them specifically for argument's sake. You'd really need to be blind to think sincerely that one side is perfect and the other is pure evil.

I'm definitely not a fan of everything the Empire does. I wish they would've fought for better terms if they really did wipe out the Thalmor armies, they must've been in dire straits to accept the Concordat in it's current state. Hopefully they'll end the treaty and the ban soon, the Thalmor can't be allowed to capitalize on it too much longer. I'm not keen on the Helgen executions either, I guess it's understandable in medieval times to execute traitors without trial but I still don't like it. On the topic of the Markarth Incident, I don't know why the word of Jarl Igmund was thought to be the Empire approving the offered reward, I'd say that was his personal mistake and Ulfric's for thinking the word of a dethroned Jarl could overrule an Imperial treaty. Maybe Igmund should've been removed from the position for his offer though, and Ulfric reprimanded only for any war crimes against Markarth's citizenry during the Incident.

However, I do not think it's necessary to end the Empire, reform is always possible and a much better alternative than insurrection. Though I understand some of their reasons, I don't have confidence that the Stormcloaks can begin a new Empire or a strong alliance, I believe it will be practically every nation for itself should the Empire fall. Thus, the Empire has my support in this fight.

If there were no bad points to each side, it'd be an easy and clear decision. At least whichever side wins, we are all hurting the Thalmor by completing the Civil War for either faction.

The Empire doesn't deserve Skyrim's fealty, and thus I fight to free Skyrim of those chains
