The worst weapon in the game

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:38 pm

no it isnt the recharger rifle is

The recharger rifle is what Bethesda might call the "survival" weapon. It was made for people who like to go out and explore the game and don"t want to worry about constantly having to run out and buy some more ammo.

Really, have you ever considered there being more to a weapon's purpose than just being the DAMAGE??

In all honesty, the Recharger Pistol is much better.

I'm confused. Is the criteria for determining a weapon's usefulness about cost or actual effectiveness? The Anti-Materiel Rifle is extremely effective and it really isn't that expensive to use. If anything the worst weapon is probably the Silenced .22 Sub-Machinegun.

Here's the stats for the Anti-Materiel Rifle just in case people want to argue that it isn't a good weapon even further:

Anti-Materiel Rifle:

DAM 110
DPS 49
SPREAD 0.03
CRITICAL MULTIPLIER x 1
CRITICAL DAMAGE 80
MAGAZINE SIZE 8
WEIGHT 20
VALUE 5600

Just for kicks, here's the Sniper Rifle

Sniper Rifle

DAM 62
DPS 145
SPREAD 0.02
CRITICAL MULTIPLIER x5
CRITICAL DAMAGE 62
MAGAZINE SIZE 5
WEIGHT 8
VALUE 4100

I think the whole SR vs AMR ordeal really just boils down to preference. I've yet to use either one one, although I'm looking forward to going sniper... preferably silenced.

I have both usually for Gun characters. I take the silenced Sniper Rifle for when I want to be stealthy and I bust out the Anti-Materiel Rifle when I just want to blow someone's head off from a large enough distance that they don't know what hit them.

And to top it off, I think the deciding factor is a combination of preference and build- with a 1st Recon Beret-Max-Luck crit build, the Sniper can crit 100% of the time- which out-damages a normal AMR hit, and the AMR only makes a comeback when it crits which the Sniper always does with such a build. Add a suppressor to the Sniper, and consider the weight- I can see the preference.

It does boil down to preference really. I'm not big on Min/Maxing as a rule. The exception being on first playthrough with any game I attempt to be as powerful as possible. I've always been partial to Anti-Materiel Rifles for some reason, most notably the Barrett M82 (semi-auto and .50 caliber? That's pure awesome for a rifle).

My last playthrough once i got the AMR, it was all i used. The cost didn't matter to me adn i didnt really do comparison to determine which was better. I did not really care enough to go all the way in to the details.

Worst weapon in the game, definitely.... I actually dont know. The Rolling Pin, I have enver used but hat just seems awful cause it is a rolling pin.

But does .22 silenced pistol>AMR any day? Al about preference really. I agree with you about the sniper. I would use a sniper over the AMR any day.

The .22 silenced pistol is pretty close to a sniper rifle. I've sniped enemies at ridiculous ranges with that thing. Of course, it doesn't actually do much damage, but at least they don't know where you are.

I'd say it's the anti material rifle the ammo is so dear u think you where shooting caviar and the gauss rifle is easier to get and the ammo is cheaper. i suppose am an anti anti material rifle kinda person.

Eh??? But it only needs one bullet per kill!! Even Deathclaws (100 guns - incendiary rounds). You don't get better value than that in the game.

It's the best weapon IMO.

Gobi>Sniper, though. Nothing beats 100% crit.

Supressed Sniper>Gobi, though. 100% sneak crits beats all.

Honestly, since picking up the Gobi I've hardly used it.

Anyway, worst weapon... the silenced .22's useless, not even any good as a hold-out weapon. Better off finding the mod for the 10mm pistol.

Also: the Fat Man.

Worst weapon - switchblade. Not only is it mediocre at best for damage, it's not worth signifigant money either. I don't even loot the stupid things. And thanks to idiot powder-gangers trying to stab me with them, the Mojave is going to end up with a switchblade lawn at this rate. I don't even shoot the switchbladers anymore. I just let Veronica punch them and laugh as their body parts go flying.

I would have to say all of the shotguns except for the riot shotgun (that thing rocks). They are all too slow and don't do enough damage (so the SMGs and other full auto weapons are a better choice for CQC). They might be useful for people that like to sneak up close but if I was going for that kind of build I would just go melee/unarmed anyway.

The grenade launchers don't seem to be overly great either. Haven't used them a lot to be honest but ammo is expensive and heavy and they don't seem to do much damage.

The worst weapons for me are silenced .22 pistol and SMG. There are other much better silenced weapons and I really don't like the looks of .22 But all this is a matter of taste.

For people arguing about AMR and Sniper rifle, they are both awesome. :) I was stuck with the question which one to use. Well I decided to wield AMR only with power armour, because it makes sense to me. Big armour, big weapon. When I am getting stealthy I have on me sniper rifle with suppressor. If I am just hunting some geckos for dinner I go out with hunting rifle. :) RP all the way

I played 150 hours searching for MF Breeder ammo so I could try the Recharger Rifle I bought in Goodsprings.

It wasn't until I decided I had enough Weapon Repair Kits to waste a couple on a gun with no ammo that I equipped the Recharger Rifle for the first time (necessary to repair it) and realized it created its own ammo once equipped.

How in the world do shotguns not do enough damage...? The lever-action is probably one of the easiest early-game weapons to acquire and even before Cowboy (a 25% damage increase) it does like 90 DPS. I would absolutely use them over most full-auto weapons in CQC most of the time, especially when they have no problem destroying DT compared to full-auto weapons.

Caravan shotgun - low damage, only 2 shots per reload, and a huge thing sticking out of the barrel making iron sights unusable.

Also, the Service Rifle is distinctly underwhelming.

Maybe not the worst but certainly the most disapointing for a fan of Fallout 1 and 2 was "That Gun". The .223 pistol in the original game was a killer and even in Fallout 2 was perhaps second best to only the P90 and Gauss pistol. That Gun on the other hand is pretty feeble.

But, until they fix the bugs, the Cowboy Repeater tops my list of worst guns. Any gun that locks out my controls if I fire it while crouching or reload it while moving is terrible no matter how good it's dps looks like on paper.

*cough* melee/unarmed *cough* Not only does the rifle do almost no damage, you have to wait for it to charge up before you fire. Nothing like that with the good old spiked knuckles.

We're talking about WORST weapon here. Not "subpar compared to the best weapon" but "so useless it's not even worth considering as part of your inventory." That means no sniper rifle variants make the list. And as someone who got great use out of Recharger Rifle early in the game, I'd beg to differ on that one too.

So, has anyone EVER had any cause to use the Silenced .22 Pistol? I have tried using it and found it so useless I always ignore or drop them. Even a sneak attack critical to the head isn't enough to kill most characters with this gun, which means they start shooting you, which makes the "silenced" part completely irrelevant. Since the 10mm Pistol can get a silencer, and ridiculously large silenced rifles have no penalty being used at close range (shouldn't you break your wrist when shooting this from the hip?), there is no reason to this even for roleplaying purposes (as it's hard to feel like Leon the Professional when shooting someone in the head just makes them mad).

Admittedly, Rolling Pin is still a contender for worst weapon. Low damage, zero crit multiplier. Good for comedy and not much else. I'd still argue that Silenced .22 is worse in a way, though, as it LOOKS like it might be useful, which might trick you into trying to use it. :)

Service Rifle. I hate that gun so much. I used it for so long in the beginning of the game and was constantly frustrated by how terrible that gun is for very hard.
