Things you'd love to see again

Come on now, Doom3's only problem was that the game started only after visiting Hell :D The expansion was much better.

Neverwinter Nights 2

I liked the first one better though.

Anyways, bethesda should stick to what they're good at. Which is sandbox first person games. Point and click-ish top-down view turn based combat fallout  YES!!! I would love to see obsidian make a new fallout just like the old ones were ( not that I played those though ). I just like the whole theme and mechanics like :woot:

I love rpg's and especially the immersive turn based combat ones. However, some things should definitely be improved upon naturally.

The skill leveling system from Oblivion. Gaining master skills by practicing the respective skill over time.

/wrists

Lmao I was looking to see if you caught that.

I would like to see more new things, and less reused things from past games.

Me too. Primm Slim's voice actually creeps me out a little.

I would love to see the awesome random encounters from the first two, or at least some equally cool.

Random encounters. Um, not too much else.

I'm pretty happy with the combat - I don't think I'd like turn-based combat. I just think it would take away from some of the immersion, and tension. I do use vats about 50% of the time, and that seems to fill that bill for me. I haven't played a lot of games in my time, but did love Baldur's Gate 2, and turn-based was obviously the way to go there. I look forward to playing FO1 and 2, and learning how that system worked.

I miss the craftable weapons, but they added so much variety in weapons (compared to FO3) that I don't mind. I did at first miss the dart gun, but realized how over-powered it was. Throwing weapon plus some sort of venom = new dart gun?

I think the leveling works well, if a bit quickly. Oblivion's was weird - where you missed out on stat bonuses by leveling similar skills or whatever. And it encouraged too much 'grinding' to level something like sneak etc. It seems like a good idea, but I don' think in practice. Maybe a compromise - where you allocate skill points like you do already, but there is a small bonus depending on what skills you used. eg. you level up and get 10 points to put anywhere, but you also get 3 points automatically in your most used skill, and 1 point added to your 2nd most used skill.

eh, that what "tag skills" did in the originals you got x2 skill point cost in tag skills. (1-100 one point =2 101-200 you got one for one 201-300 you got two for one.) none tag skills you got 1-100 one for one 101-200 two for one and 201-300 three for one. IIRC. So you "tag" the skills you want to use the most and they would increase very fast compared to the others.

I'd like to see a more Fallout 3 style story telling system.
I can't stand having quests run all the way down the length of my Pip Boy like they do in New Vegas, and I'd love the effort that was put into the Fallout 3 map to be put in in future Fallout games.
As for New Vegas, things like weapon mods need to be kept, companion wheel and such.

I want the DT/DR system from 2 back.

If I'm shooting the enemy with bullets, and they're in metal armor, I want my bullets to bounce! But if I pull out a plasma pistol, I want them to cook in that tin can! I want the only universal defenses to be dodging in the first place, Brotherhood Combat Armor, Combat Armor Mk II, T51b power armor and better, and the random number generator deciding that you must have rolled a 96 instread of 95 and under to hit.

I want the old Tag system back.

I want the old 'toys' back...like lockpicks, electronic lockpicks, etc.

I want my Energy Weapons back! Sure, I do partially mean I want my Ext. Cap Laser Rifle, Magneto-Laser Pistol, and Turbo Plasma Rilfe. But I also mean I want them to be effective again. Under the current system, the citizens of New Reno are mocking the Salvatore family because their leather jackets are pretty good at completely stopping shots from 'Lightbringers'.

I want the real Gauss weapons back! PPK12, M72, and my precious and limited clips of 2mmEC. And I want them as they should be...as guns, not energy weapons. They have recoil, and operate via projectile. On the small guns note, I also want the g11 and other neat guns back. But don't glitch the Bozar into godmode this time.

Yao Guai, or at least an as intimidating enemy.

Plus, I'd expected much more weapon crafting instead of much more aid crafting, though I'm pretty sure I saw a railway rifle in the back of Mitch's secret room in Freeside behind those bars. :glare:

Dogmeat from Fallout 3, in a random encounter. Basically, Dogmeat runs up to you, steals some ammo, chems, or guns, then runs off again.

Get it? Because Dogmeat would disappear for months when you would tell him to find you things in Fallout 3? So maybe he ran all the way to the Mojave?

Meh, I thought it was funny.

Rex to be able to search for things like Dogmeat. If the firelance came down over the mojave Rex would be useless.

Lolwut, now we have people complaining about amount of choices? I would take that over simpleton boxsand-only game style ANY DAY.

EDIT: Hmm, but to keep this forum going, I am gonna say: Random Encounters

AUDIO TAPES! You'd get audio transmissions in NV but it would just be a transcription, I liked hearing audio tapes in FO3 aloud.

The original maptravel with random encounters and node locations. Also, much bigger emphasis on characterskill over playerskill (both in and out of combat).

The underlying story. New Vegas just seems kind of empty without those little things that make the overall story more real. Like how Fallout 3 would have just-so placed skeletons or items- like a tedybear- or an entry in a terminal that told you little things about what happened on the day the bombs fell. It's like New Vegas doesn't have a history. I miss that ever so slightly.
I mean, I guess New Vegas is a safer place to clean up and having a bunch of skeletons lying around a casino is a bit unrealistic, but you get my point. It's those little details that I really enjoyed finding in Fallout 3.
I laughed every time in Fallout 3 going through the Meresti Train Tunnel and there is a crashed carriage placed just so that the "Watch your Step" sign is right before a tripwire. That was sort of irrelevant but...whatever.

Would indeed much prefer this over the teleportation that passes for fast travel nowadays.

Also, much bigger emphasis on characterskill over playerskill (both in and out of combat).

Oh, hell yes! RPG here, people!

I would like to see more effort put into the exploration aspect of New Vegas----a game which has a superior story and characters compared to Fallout 3----but is seriously lacking in places (ENGAGING places) to wander around in.
