Things you may not have known. PART 2

It seems you can grab arrows out of the air like Hercules if you're savvy enough. I just had one whiz by my head and it said (X to take Steel Arrow) for a split second. I wasn't fast enough though.

This makes 'slow time' shout soooo funny :D

Hmm, I read through the first thread and I am still trying to figure out how to shoot birds down LOL They are so fast moving and usually fly pretty high. My archery is pretty high on my current toon, but I hate wasting my arrows on them. Are these the birds flying over Solitude? I really haven't seen a lot of birds in other areas. What's the best way to bring them down?

I'd say either use Iron Arrows, there seems to be no end to those things on bandits, or get your Conjuration up to 45 or so and buy the Bound Bow tome, 100 free arrows on each cast!

Wow... some nice stuff in these threads. As with others, amazed about being able to pick up bear traps. (Gotta try the red barrels as well.)

My personal favorite that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned yet (maybe as everyone knows it):
Casting a Rune (fire is best of course as the undead are weak to fire) at the base of a draugr in its sarcophagus will get it out every time. Can be done other ways such as by hitting at the right angle with a warhammer, but the fire rune is much better, blowing the lid off. Sometimes the draugr will be dead already after the fire and flop out.

Thanks all for the tips and ideas on how to bring down a Hawk! :) I do have slow time perk and I will pick up some Iron arrows! OH I need the slow time shout! hahahaha That combined with the archery perk, the birds will be motionless suspended in the air. LOL I'll climb the Solitude walls tonight! :)

@ Kivan: You can also FUS RO DAH a closed coffin to "wake up" the draugr inside. LOL

Hah... nice one. Another good tip.

One I forgot to post that I just found and put to good use... you can sometimes cause a distraction (if you don't want to harm anyone) by attacking a conjured ally. In this case, it was when I had to steal the documents in Riften from the steward's desk. A guard would go all aggro and pull his sword out whenever I went through the door behind the Jarl's throne.

So, I cast Conjure Familiar and punched the spirit wolf three times. On the third time, it attacked me (its tiny nibbles weren't enough to worry about.) Citizens fled, guards stood around watching, ignoring their AI. Made it easy to sneak and take the document.

LOL Oh that's a good idea - attacking your own familiar to cause a distraction!

Speaking of Jarl - my current Shadow Thief character doesn't care about the war, so I tried to take out Ulfric and Galmar. I was in sneak mode and one arrow brought Ulfric to his knees, the 2nd did the same to Galmar. I thought they would go beserk and would try to find me and hang me. But nope, after they recovered their health again, they continued their war talk as if nothing had happened. I walked into the room and they ignored me. LOLOLOL

I'm not completely sure, but I think you can circle Dwemer Centurions while attacking them to take less damage. They seem to have trouble hitting something that's constantly moving around them.

Edit: Here's another tip. Casting Muffle repeatedly is a great way to level illusion, because you don't need to be near an enemy or in combat for it to count.

If you jump from Bard's Leap Summit and survive the fall, you get to meet the ghost of the Bard that gave the place its name. And, he will sing you a song that increases your Speechcraft as well.

When you are carrying too much weight you can use the Whirlwind sprint to help you move faster if you just don't feel like dropping items and your companions are all full too. Doing this in town though has resulted in guards telling me that I am making the city folk nervous and to please stop shouting in the city limits.

I followed him, he rides to a ruin called Hamvir's rest and then disappears... there I found a few skeletons and a master locked chest which I didn't manage to get open. Mysterious...

After you beat the chaurus reaver in the caves underneath the Frostflow Lighthouse, and receive Habd's remains bring them up to the lighthouse fire for a permanent buff of +10% to the healing effect of all healing spells.

This is a bit of a spoler... just.

Inside blackreach if you go to where the Falmer keep their slaves ( its like a big Dwemmer stucture) with a huge yellow glowing ball hanging from the ceiling, if you use FUS RO DAH on the ball, a named dragon ( inside blackreach!) will fly in and attack.

Sorry if this has been posted before.

- You can use a fire spell to burn spider webs or hack them with your sword.Sometimes there's treasure behind them.
- Taking down torches off of walls in dungeons helps you to sneak through.
- Spriggans can go back into trees while fighting them and they will regain health.Attack them when they do this.
- Sometimes if you pickpocket an npc while they're busy talking or making noise, you will be successful.
- Purposely breaking lockpicks on a master lock will level up your lockpicking faster.
- Sometimes if you follow a fox out in the wilderness, it will lead you near some chests, dungeons, landscape views, or dragon burial mounds.
- You can set off traps that have a tripwire by shooting an arrow at them.
- If you trap an enemy at the edge of a cliff or hill, and use Unrelenting Force, you can shout them down the hill and they will instantly be killed.
- There is an enchanted pickaxe called Notched Pickaxe at the very top of The Throat of The World (where Paarthurnax is).It can be used as a regular pickaxe or a weapon.
- If you go out in the ocean near some icebergs, you can hear them cracking and shifting.
- After completing the Companions questline, you can forge Ancient Nord Armor at Skyforge. It shows up under the Daedric Armor list.
- One time when I was traveling through the hotsprings, there was a giant standing there and his mammoth was laying there, slain. He looked as if he was in mourning and did not attack me.
- If you dont want to run all the way to your destination, you can hitch a ride down a waterfall. It's faster.
- A follower will not die if an enemy gets their health down to low. But if you accidently attack them at this point, they will die.
- I once ran into an unnamed Khajiit out on the road in the woods near Riften, who was selling skooma and offered to sell me some. When I refused, he attacked me.When I got his health down low, he yielded and I let him live.Afterward, I was able to buy everything in his inventory.
- If you use an alchemy table at an alchemy shop, and create a new potion for the first time, the shop owner will comment on it.
- If there is an enemy on a bridge or walkway in a dungeon, you can sneak or swim underneath to remain undetected.
- If you have a dog follow you, and you pull out your weapon, the dog will lower its head and growl. It's unsheathing it's weapon along with you!
- You can kill enemies using trigger traps. Try the Throw Voice shout near a wall to have the enemy walk over the pressure plate that activates a spike wall.Or spring a boulder trap when the enemy is a couple feet away from the trap.
- Bear dens are not the only places where you can find beehives. Check under the walkways where the guards patrol in town.
- Mudcrabs vary in size all over skyrim.
- Sometimes when an npc is killed (usually in town), another npc will crouch down near them and loot their body.
- Making Iron Daggers at a forge levels up your Smithing just as fast as higher level gear, and it's cheap!
- Goats will help in a fight even if you don't use a spell or shout to make them help you.

Dead Thrall doesn't summon one permanently, the effect lasts exactly 999 days to the second.

Confirmed.
I just finished this. On top of a platform right outside of the Debate Hall, located between Pump Station and Hall of Rumination, there is a glowing ball/chandelier hanging from the ceiling.Use Unrelenting Force on it and Vulthuryol (dragon) will appear. Great find!

Oh cool, I didn't know that! I did the quest, but never did that. I'll have to try this with my current character!

Never followed a Fox! I must try this! :) Cool stuff!

OMG yea, the creaking of the Icebergs freak me out.
* If you hear "creaking" in the mountains though, watch out! I nearly avoided an avalanche of rocks at one point. No, there was no thieves den or trap, just rocks sliding down the mountain side!

* The Nirnroot in Morthal, next to the walkway leading to the burned down house, will re-grow. I harvest it every time when I'm there. lol
* Speaking of Nirnroot, there is a Nirnroot farm between Riften and Ivarstead (Sarethi Farm) You can harvest at least 10 Nirnroots there.

* If you are in sneak mode and you shoot an arrow past an enemy, they will turn and walk towards the noise to investigate. (I think you need a high sneak skill though)

* Someone mentioned a cool place in the first thread, but wasn't specific with directions. So, I found the place:
Angi's Camp - South-East of Falkreath. There's a path leading up the mountain. Ask her what the targets are for. She will give you some lessons and challenges in archery. I gained 5 points in my Archery skill there.

* I stumbled across yet a NEW place, I've never seen before - Lund's Hut. It's north-west of Rorikstead. Good place to get Skeever Tails lol ;)

Every time I play and notice something interesting, I think of this thread and try to make mental notes. LOL

When in water there is a way you can clearly see whats under the water and on seabeds without fully submerging.

If you slowly begin to nudge your player down little by little until you can just see underneath the water, you can just float there and rotate around you until you see something of interest. You are not fully submerged and so the water is not mirky and you are not holding your breath either.

Only downside is that you cannot swim forward whilst in this position. Instead just swim to a to a new position and repeat the process.

Doing this will give you a crystal clear view of underneath the water line for any hidden treasure.

You can get stubborn dragons who are ignoring you to become aggressive with the staff of magnus.

You can kill stuff by using telekinesis to throw apples at them if you have the patience.

- you can take out the ice or fire pedestals by shooting an arrow at the soul gem in the middle
- you can collect skill books for later use (and avoid leveling because of skills you don't use) by making your follower pick them up
- I have some doubts about the fox-guide stories. There are so many things to see in skyrim that any random walk will lead you to "something"
