Things you may not have known. PART 2

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 8:59 pm

Hi all.

The origional post ( of "Things you may not have known" ) held some very interesting tips, information and locations of things around Skyrim people wouldn't know or have easily found. Some I hadn't noticed/ seen until after reading.

Example, before the post was closed, I read an entry, saying there are Shadowmarks all around Skyrim. One of interest was on a barrel near the houses you can buy, Breezehome and (I think) in Solitude. The markings are for members of the Thieves Guild, inside this marked barrel were items you could take, known as "Thieves' Cache". It contained some very nice things!
See Shadowmarks, bottom of page. http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Shadowmarks

I sought out this tip and found it in my game.. This is what I want to continue. It makes a good read and very helpful for others. My ONLY condition is you MUST read the origional post of "Things you may not have known." ;) I don't want people to double up but to find something new, which hasn't been mentioned before. Happy reading!

Oh yeah, there are many places that are marked for looting but I found the Shadowmak "Protected" on the door frame of a house in Markarth. Pity that isn't on the houses I have bought! LOL!!

Markarth, the Silver-Blood Inn is marked "Danger" !! Haven't worked out who inside here is the danger... all of them or one person?

If you hotkey an item that gives you extra Magicka such as the Novice Hood, you can quickly swap it out and then back in again for more magicka instantly if you run out.

You can have your followers assassinate someone with no bounty reprecussions if you tell them to attack someone while you're hidden.

Would have been helpful if you linked the first thread like most people do when creating a part 2. I searched forums but couldn't find it?

If you are talking with an NPC, and they have some long pre-programmed speech, you can left-click on them and they will skip to the next line. (This does not work in certain cases, like one of Balgruuf's first speeches about the dragon). Also, don't do this with your weapon equipped.

There are gas pockets in various Dwemer ruins (and some other caves/dungeons), identifiable by a kind of visible distortion in the air. Throwing a flame spell or fire shout at them makes them explode. This is different from the oil pools you can sometimes find on the ground of dungeons, which can also be ignited.

I wrote something about the magic light spell in the other thread. Some more: Normally, when you cast one and it "lands" somewhere, the previous one will vanish. But you can actually have two active simultaneously, one on objects or walls and one on an NPC. (Not counting the lights that still fly towards their goal, those can apparently be unlimited as you can see when you cast them towards the distant horizon.)

Another thing those are good for is to distract and lure enemies. Cast it against a wall to make enemies run there to check things out, then sneak past them or whatever you want to do. I think this works with most spells, but so far it feels more efficient with the magic light as it sticks there for a while. Downside is, of course, that enemies will be put into search mode and that the area you cast the light to will be, well, lit.

But I could use this a few times with my assassin when an enemy just didn't want to look into the other direction.

Has it been mentioned before? Whatever, I just realized yesterday there are little "ant streets" to be found on tree stumps. Cute. Why no alchemy ingredient?

You can shoot hawks, dragonflies, all fish, butterflies, and bees with spells or arrows and they will turn into their corresponding loot.

You can actually enchant and upgrade the equipped armor of a corpse, but only the armor they were wearing before they died, and it will wear it when you cast dead thrall on them. However, there is a trick to getting them to equip it. Take the armor off their corpse then upgrade and enchant it and put it back in their corpse and raise them. They will be naked, however when you fast travel or zone into a new area, they will be wearing their newly upgraded and enchanted armor.

NPCs do not follow the same rules regarding magic/elemental resistance caps. They can get all the way up to 100% resistance.

A link to the original thread would be appreciated by those who missed it, my own personal addition is that you can equip a pickaxe and manually slash away at ore pockets, I decided to try it on a whim and it worked :)

I think I've read it takes less swings than the "auto-mining", too.

If you knock down a lantern in a cave, and if that lantern lands on an oil slick (the purple rainbow looking splotches on the ground) then it will explode all over you. Be careful, as this may kill you...I just did this in the bleak falls barrow quest!

Could someone link to the first thread, please? If I'm not going to be "allowed" to post anything here until I've read it, it would be nice to be able to read it.

Uh.... why wouldn't you be allowed to post here if you haven't read the first one? I haven't read the first one....

If you use Unrelenting Force on the large, glowing golden ball in Alftand, something will come down. Just be prepared.

It seems you can grab arrows out of the air like Hercules if you're savvy enough. I just had one whiz by my head and it said (X to take Steel Arrow) for a split second. I wasn't fast enough though.

You can cancel a normal sword swing into a power.

You can get 2 very fast- almost instant sword swings right after a power attack.

Vegetable soup lets you do power attacks, shield bashes non stop.

You can shield bash even the strongest enemies to death without fear of retaliation.

Lets say you're sneaking around a dungeon and spot 2 bandits, drauger, whatever standing next to each other. You stay undetected, fire an arrow, killing one of them. The survivor (assuming its a creature that speaks) will wonder if someone is there, but otherwise show little reaction to the death of their comrade.

Using a forge, workbench, et cetera, such as in Embershard Mine, will make enough noise to attract the attention of bandits.

* You can mine soul gems in Blackreach

Hmm, I read through the first thread and I am still trying to figure out how to shoot birds down LOL They are so fast moving and usually fly pretty high. My archery is pretty high on my current toon, but I hate wasting my arrows on them. Are these the birds flying over Solitude? I really haven't seen a lot of birds in other areas. What's the best way to bring them down?

Maybe that archery perk that slows time (Steady Hand) will help, kind of like the deadeye power in Red Dead Redemption.

If you wait long enough on top of the city walls in solitude, one of the hawks will fly right past you. I've shot one down like that before, it was pretty satisfying :)

Anyway... my contribution:

Don't drop your items inside cities and get your follower to pick them up, or else they will be marked as stolen the next time you take it from your follower. I think this even applies inside city buildings.

If you completed the Dark Bother Hood man quest line you can buy a new torture chamber with 4 victims tied up at the Dawn Star Sancturary.

The 4 tied up victims are perfect for quick leveling non lethal magic skills for your evil doo'er. You can spam cast spells as fast as possible on any victim and level really fast....They can't do anything but scream and yell. Bring Ciscero, i think he loves it..

Using soul trap levels conjuration....This is a good place to spam it. Since they can't move...Muahah..

Of course alteration, illusion, restoration and others can be leveled on yourself.. But its so much fun to use it on the torture victims.

Still,.....You can level other skills but you have to make sure you don't kill them and heal them alot. And if you do kill them make sure you get a location of treasure off all of them 1st. Each of them has a stash of loot they glady give information about.
