Toughest monster so far?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 11:00 am

So I know Dragons are the big thing in Skyrim, but there are other things that have given me much more trouble.

The toughest monsters I've faced as of yet have got to be Wisp Mothers. Their three wisps hurt, and the explosions when they die are killer. And to top it off, the Mother itself runs around throwing Ice Spikes at me. Then when the Wisps are gone, when the Mother gets down in health, she spawns some shades that look like her but just do melee. They explode too, just like the Wisps. Of course, killing the Mother itself gets rid of the shades/wisps, but at least for me they had tons of HP and taking them out before the wisps and shades was just not an option. It's the energy explosions on death that really get me though.

What monsters have given you the most trouble?

The Dragon priests aren't easy, but totally worth the effort.

Orchendor on a pure mage. He seemed to be completely immune to magic, so I had to inexpertly hack him to death with a mace and about 25 1hand skill. You fight him at the end of the Peryite daedric artifact quest.

krosis is typically the hardest fight you'll encounter before level 30, though i hear thieves/melee have a far easier time with it.

as a conjure mage, this was by far the hardest fight so far. not being able to use any of my atronachs is tough

Morokei was the hardest for me so far... I'm currently level 30. Fought him in the early 20s and he could 2-shot me and take control of my summoned atronachs.

Agreeing with the guy above, Morokei easily. He killed me in two hits and I had very little to do against him. I finally beat him by spending 15 minutes running and setting him on fire.

I really didn't have a big problem with the dragon priests, as an archer. The AI tends to try to hide from you, so it ends up being a long distance game of tag. Though being able to slow time whenever I need to dodge, or when he starts to come out of cover helps a lot. Also they stagger very easily with Power Shot, so usually if I hit them first they just go back behind the rock.

For me Trolls were terrible. I didn't have a high destruction skill so fire didn't help until I could enchant my bow. I ran into one at level 5 (on my way up to High Hrothgar). It creamed Lydia. I barely survived. Then I had to climb the mountain to find a frost troll, this time Lydia died and I was running down the mountain shooting and shouting my way down.

Ice Wraiths are brutal for archers even with slow time. The movement is fairly random and they eat through health fast.

Dragon Priests weren't exactly easy for me, but I managed. Being a pure mage though, basically anything two-handed melee based that hits hard could kill me in 1 hit. Probably should've invested in some defensive spells. Once I got a Dremora Lord though everything was pretty easy really.

Krosis so far. I used Barbas, My summon shadow helper spell from Dark Brother hood, a Dark brotherhood initiate, shadowmere, 3 point Shout" Mark of Dead. And he still took a second to kill.

well I haven't played much, haven't fought most of the above creatures yet, though so far I have heck of a time fighting ice bears, only fought one, killed me about a dozen times before i managed to kill it, heck i'd take a dragon over that bear any day, if nothing else they're easier to hit.

Without a doubt, Draugr Death Overlord. Morokei was hard but these guys are unbearably so. Use of shouts, EXTREMELY high damage, Lots of HP/damage reduction. Words of advice - If you haven't faced one of these yet and you aren't at least lvl 30, RUN, run like hell.

I'm playing on Master difficulty. Right now I'm stuck on a Falmer Gloomlurker. My atronach tends to retreat and make me tank it (with 30 block/heavy). It is absolutely wrecking me.

Edit: I managed to kill it by hiding in a fountain. Took me the time between posting and editing.

Agreed on this.

Yeah I haven't face Krosis yet but am not looking forward to it at all, as my mage tends to rely on his summons to distract the enemy while he pummels them with spells. :( Does Krosis hit hard in melee, or hit at all in melee? Thinking of going the route of summoned weapons to melee him to death...

BTW, on a side note, does anyone know if the Sanguine Rose ever runs out of charges? Those summoned Dremora come in quite handy....

I was something in between lvl 10-15 when i stumbled across Krosis. As you can imagine i couldnt do anything to prevent my death against him. But then i tried beast form against him and it worked wonders. I got him cornered against a rock and just slapped him with powerful attacks on the move. He couldnt cast even once. I was amazed that i could do it. But thats the fun in this game. You can win against giants and trolls even before level 10 by using the terrain to your advatage. Anyway now im lvl 35 and the most horrible things are the Deathlords that can shout.

Those bug things the falmer keep as pets. I also ran into one of those with a Reaper suffix in the wood...wow, nearly killed my ass.

Like any weapon in the game, it is recharged using soul gems.

Vampire Mages (don't remember the name)

They basically Absorb your Health, Heal themselves, deal tons of damage... force you to revert to save after you notice all your potions are gone and you haven't gotten anywhere.

[Spoiler]
-> Not sure even if Shadowmere can tank Vampire Mages in open-field
-> Giants can one-shot Shadowmere but late game Giants aren't a problem (Kiting+Bows ftw)

So in short, I'm only afraid of creatures/enemies that can kill cute ol' Shadowmere =3
