A few stabs in the dark here.

Modern computers turn themseves off, if they overheat.

Are your fans working?

....................................................................

It could simply be that some of the Hardware in your computer is faulty. Did your computer get tested before you bought it as I assume it's custom built.

....................................................................

It could be a virus although this is very unlikely as it's new and I assume you haven't had it long enough to have done anything silly with it. On a side nore make sure you have the appropriate internet security.

...................................................................

If none of the above are the reason try entering BIOS setup as the computer is booting. Once you have done that leave it in the BIOS setup

If the computer does not turn off while being left in this mode (BIOS), it could likely be a problem Microsoft Windows or your operating system.

Hope this helps in some way

not sure about windows 7 but if it's similar enough to XP just right click on the desktop and hit properties, there might be a tab in the window that comes up that says Screen Saver, then there should be some options in there to change

Does it turn itself off or shut itself down? Or is it just asleep?

Only thing I can think of is that some hardware is bad. My old rig did that when the GPU started going bad. It would be on, then it would be off, just like that.

If you are still using it when it shuts off, I'd say check into heating issues. Maybe the CPU fan is insufficient.

If it does that after inactivity. Go to Start->Control Panel->Power Options. Disable or change the sleep mode options and hibernate options.

If it is in sleep mode (As in you leave it alone and you come back to it being "off"), you should be able to simply hit the power button to bring it out of it. Now, if it starts booting after you hit the power button then it wasn't sleeping.

To check if the fans are all working simply open the case and visually inspect them all. Spinning = good, non-spinning = bad. This is because spinning is so much cooler then not spinning.

You can enter the BIOS by hitting whichever key your PC wants you to press right after you hit the power switch. Mine tells me to hit escape.

This can all be Googled, you know.

If your fans are working you should simply be able to hear them or feel them if you place your hands over the fan covers. Alternativley open your case up and look at them, make sure nothing is blocking them and that they turn freely

To enter the BIOS mode you will need to press either one of these F1, F2, DEL, ESC or F10. It will tell you on the screen as it's about to boot up

Once here just leave it for 20 minutes - 30 minutes. If your computer doesn't turn off then I would say it's a problem with your Windows operating system.

My bad it was an example (a bad one), should have listed a few more examples. :brokencomputer:

Still when you enter it regardless on what it looks like just leave it and wait.

Have you installed all the drivers yet? When I got my previous pc it would turn off after a couple of minutes, until I realized that I had a bunch of cd's with drivers that I hadn't touched yet. (my uneducated guess would be that the lack of installed drivers caused heat-management issues which in turn caused the power to go off in order to prevent further damage)

If it's a desktop I would definitely be checking the core temp using a program if you can download one. Also after it shuts itself off after 20 min can you immediately turn it back on or does it refuse to turn back on? If it shuts itself off then is fine then you turn it back on it shuts off after another 20 min it might be a problem with the power supply. Your parts might not be getting the proper voltage sent to them or you could have a loose connection somewhere. If you can usually set the power save options from the screen saver area since windows usually links the two together.

If it's a laptop then I would probably say it's the power save option which really makes me wonder why it's doing that. It could be that the battery is having problems and you might need to have it checked out or replaced. I would go to the bottom corner where the battery icon is and right click it selecting power save options then find where it talks about battery usage and when to shut it off.

hmm i'm probably wrong, but that doesn't sound good. Did you enter the key for your operating system? I heard that for the windows 7 OS that if it isn't registered within a period of time it will shut itself off preventing use for periods of time until you register it. Hopefully you didn't get hosed on the OS key for your computer.

Also, simple suggestion; Unplug your computer and wiggle everything a bit, making sure that everything is plugged in right. I had a similar problem when my sound card was only mostly in on one of my old rigs.

After opening it up and making sure all the wire were in I found out two things:
1) its 600w
2) I was ment to be getting the Radeon HD 6870 but they messed up and put GeForce GTX 570 into it I don't know if that makes it good or not or if it effects the problems

only if you're not USING the computer, i.e., the computer is sitting there idle

Sounds like overheating to me

If that's the case you have lucked out the GTX 570 is a more powerful card than the HD 6870

Power usage:

HD 6870- 128 watts (idle) - 247 Watts (load)

GTX 570- 150 watts (idle) - 330 watts (load)

Your problem is possibly a lack of power to run a more powerful card that your system was not built for for. If that is the case you will need to get a new power supply.

You need to go through your system and add up all the power usage for all your components, if it exceds the 600w you have, that is possibly your problem
