Question and Answer
Q: What is this share map thing?
A: A Minecraft share map is a singleplayer map that one person plays at a time. They have a set amount of time to play it, and when they're done, they upload the map for the next player in the queue. Rinse and repeat. That way, you have a single world with a shared creative vision without the multiplayer.
Q: How long will I get the map for?
A: Turns last 3 days. You have those 3 days to: download, edit, upload, and post the link in this thread. It's your responsibility to upload the map prior to the end of your last day (GMT time).
Q: What if I'm not ready for it?
A: Your assigned time is listed above. If you know your upcoming turn won't be good for you, post ahead of time and you can be bumped down the queue. If that happens during your turn, you can have the map again in the next rotation - just upload what you've already done, if any. Please be sure to upload or post on time, though!
Q: What if someone doesn't acknowledge their turn, doesn't upload in time, or griefs?
A: These things impact other players, and we want to keep them to a minimum. Griefing will cause the map to be reverted to the last save, and the player to do it will be banned from the share map. If you are late and impact someone else's turn, you will lose appropriate time your next turn (and the player affected will gain that time), rounding up to the nearest DAY. Subsequent such incidents may lead to the loss of a turn or an outright ban, but we don't want it to come to that.
Q: Are there any special rules?
A: The only big rule we ask is to please play on 'Peaceful' because we wish to preserve the built structures. Other than that, simple etiquette takes over. If you use things, try to replace some or all of it. Leave resources for the next player. Don't deliberately explore beyond the boundaries of the map (you can use F3 to see) since it'll bloat the world file size. Don't destroy their creations (at least, not without asking), even if they don't meet your standards.
Q: How can I download/upload the map?
When you download the map, unzip the save to your %appdata%/.minecraft folder, change the name of the folder (adding 1 to the round or session as appropriate), then start the game up. For uploading, zip the folder and upload the zip file to a file hosting service such as http://www.megaupload.com/.
Q: Can I be a part of this?
A: Of course. Just post in this thread that you want to join, and you'll be added to the end of the queue.
Regarding late uploads: please read the Q&A red section, which I have just added. I do concur with some that some sort of consequence is appropriate because these incidents can and do adversely affect the next player in line and their editing window. My personal goal isn't to police things, but to promote fair and equitable sharing. Thus my recommendation of a base 1 day deducted (transferred, actually) for instances where the map is uploaded late but within a day. Additional consequences would be reserved for second and third offenses, or if there is complete failure to communicate.
If you disagree (or agree), send me a PM. I would have done this via PM from the start, but it seems people look to these posts as the 'standard' for the share map, and so I felt something had to be put forth. Everything above (everything!) is able to be changed at the request of any of you.
These changes have been reflected (in blue) in the turn schedule at the top. And ali, I have added you at the end. Since griefing on the share map is totally reversible and a waste of time, I'm willing to let you prove your desire to be constructive. Heck, you can always burn things as you wish - after having uploaded the map!
