What is Minecraft?

Minecraft is a creative sandbox game centered around exploration and survival; exploring and gathering resources allows you to protect yourself against a variety of beasties that hunt you down during the night. The creative sandbox elements of the game fuel your want to survive and gather, which in turn allow you to build many wonderful creations. Basic fluid physics also provide interesting means of creating basic machines. The multiplayer is very similar to the single-player, just with more people.

Right, Undone, Bone and I just held a quick discussion, so we could come to a better solution, which was also viable to achieve. I can understand that you don't want to lose your work, I wouldn't either, this is our solution:

We are going to download the current map, create the island and ocean a considerable distance from the current spawn via editing tools, we will set this new island as the spawn, it will have a barebones town, will have town planning, and a clear 'vision'. The current city, will be added as a warp point, available to all, as a global area for misc. building, we will not edit/change any buildings there, the structure and design of the city will not be regulated. As a result we will preserve the current buildings, have the new map as planned, and create a much needed place for people to arbitrarily build if they so wish.

If this is not technically viable (for example logical constraints on the map filesize, or technical impossibility of some other sort), a new map shall be adopted.

Sounds like the ideal solution, hopefully it'll work out.

Moving on....

Has anyone seen any lightning strike any cities yet? (we're ignoring Tank going mad with lightning power)

I've seen some lightning strikes in the improvised city on the current map (apparently known as Monstrocity now) and it's pretty cool. Not sure if it did any actual damage to the environment, so far it seems to have hit mostly the ground around buildings.

We have a mod which prevevnts damage i think.

How much damage does a lightning strike do anyway? I know it can set blocks on fire, which 99 out of 100 times does nothing because the rain puts it out straight away. But can a lightning strike directly destroy blocks?

Otherwise I don't see what the point of the mod is. :P

It's to prevent those 1 in a 100 shots. And to prevent whatever admin is using the lightning as a toy (Read tank as the awesome weather god) and destroying everything.

@Blackhand do you use zans or any other mods?

I know yall are all busy with the new map and I can't wait to see it, but until then I was wondering.
How do you mark cave passage ways so you won't get lost in a huge cave?

Regarding this, I saw a good method on the Minecraft forum and adopted it. Place all your torches against a far wall, so that they 'point' back towards where you came from. It's the most efficient way to place waypoints in order to keep your bearings. Torches always on the right is a good alternative, but problematic at times when you reach large (possibly multi-level) chambers. I've thought about signs, but the sheer amount of inventory space needed for them isn't worth it for me unless it's a much-frequented cavern.

I started a small private server off my computer where griefing is not only allowed, it's encouraged. Admin battles are fun!

i really don't see how this is such a big deal. How has time been "wasted" at all? there's no deadlines. anyway i don't really want a turn this round so skip me brosephs

As Bone said earlier I was busy helping the server with the new map. I simply forgot that I had the share map, and I apologize. That's no ones fault but my own.

I do have to say however that you're post regarding the issue was a little overboard. We are only humans Anti, we make mistakes.

If you want to bar me from the share map go ahead, but please, pause and take a deep breath before you decide to jump down someones throat for a mistake.

yeah antibody you're obviously a bit too emotionally invested in this map

There are deadlines, Nuck. Have you seen http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1184299-unofficial-minecraft-discussion-39/page__view__findpost__p__17608090? There's nearly a month in between each turn. And while I am obviously invested in the map, you using that fact as some sort of insult doesn't work when that's not why I am taking this so seriously. I stand by what I said; dudeordudet wasted the time of everyone on the shared map who has to wait close to a month to have a single 3 day turn. They have 3 days to work on it while dudeordudet had 4-5 days and handed it in hours late. Now, I never said dudeordudet did any of this on purpose, as some sort of devious scheme or something. I simply pointed out that there should be real consequences for the things he didn't do. What he didn't do is ask for us to skip his turn if he knew he would be busy, hand in the map early once he was busy on the server map, or at the very least point out when uploading the final map (late) that he had no time to work on it. If I had known going in that he didn't, none of this would have happened. My reaction is entirely because he simply uploaded the map like nothing was wrong, not even addressing the fact that it was late and he was cutting into your valuable time, Nuck (time which apparently you don't care about). As a college student who regularly has to forgo sleep just to make more time, I know how valuable time is.

dudeordudet, I never said I wanted to bar you from the rotation permanently. If you read my post again I make that pretty clear. My suggestion to bar you from the rotation for one turn was just that, a suggestion. I can't "go ahead" and enact any punishment. I am not, last time I checked, the sole person in power of the share map. As I said in my last post, it is up to the rest of the people who have contributed to the shared map to determine if my suggestion should or shouldn't happen, or to come up with their own ideas, including not doing anything at all. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not ignorant of how I'm viewed in this thread. My reaction to the old map being changed on the server has cemented my status in this thread as someone who overreacts to everything, and wishes himself in some sort of position of power. But the fact of the matter is, I don't wish that, and have been the one emphasizing how equal everyone's say is on this map since the beginning. Even when I tried to throw my hat into the ring for a spot on the server council, it was only so we could have something close to a similar situation. But the shared map has never had any moderators or admins, and as far as I can tell it never will. My point is, just as I cannot decide for everyone on the map if you should face some sort of punishment, you cannot single me out as the one to blame if you face punishment. Putting all the blame on big old mean Antibody isn't going to work.

All that said, I'm happy you've apologized and owned up to your mistakes. My stance is still that you should face some sort of consequence for that mistake. Others may feel differently. We are still in the same situation that we were in when I posted my original post. I appreciate your apology and am glad you care enough to give one but I've never been one to believe in a slap on the wrist for first offenses. But what ultimately happens depends entirely on what everyone else in the rotation says.

Oh, feel free to, just play the game when its your turn or pass it on. :)
Anywho can we have the schedule/ line up, who's turn is it now too?

Also I think dudeordudette should be pay for the time he wasted by passing his next turn. Since because of his mistake I might not be able to get a round in before I leave on course.

Seem's your the only one with any real anger about this situation. Just lighten up and get over it, what's done is done. Punishing or not punishing DoD? won't change a thing.Just get over it and move on. He said so himself, he got side tracked by the MP server, and I can't blame him, it's more fun with people than solo.

Then he shouldn't sign up, if he is more interested in the MP server that he cant PM us.

What I do is, whenever I've completely cleared a section of a cave, even if it's only a single small branch, I find the points of entry to that section and make a small marker two cobble blocks tall, and place two torches on one of the sides. If I ever run into the marker again, I know not to go in that direction. I also sometimes just let myself get completely lost and when I'm done for the day I use a backup diamond pickaxe to tunnel up, in such a way that I'm safe from any falling gravel or sand of course. When I get the urge to go back in, I just use that new entrance I made and finish up in that section.

Got some bad news for antibody!! Can i join the rotation or am i not allowed? Im bored due to the PSN outage..

People in the know on the server would have to confirm for me, but weren't you banned from the server? I do know that before you were let into the server, http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/topic/1160880-unofficial-minecraft-discussion-xxx/page__view__findpost__p__17036623 And don't worry, I didn't go through all the old topics to get that quote, I had already quoted it in a Pm a while back. Anyway, I would hope you're aware that if you are let in, any griefing you do or anything similar (like, instead of griefing, erecting towers shaped like dikes all over the place and claiming you think it's art), will just be a waste of your time and ours as we'll just go back to the save before your turn and pretend like you never even had a turn.

To summarize, I don't think you should be let in personally, but if everyone else thinks otherwise and you are let in, I just hope you're aware that if you intend to grief, you'll be waiting a month for your first turn and any griefing you do will just result in us falling back on the last save.

So far mrcrazy_monkey thinks something should be done, I think something should be done, and Mr. E thinks something should be done (as he said in a pm), so I'm far from the only one who cares about the situation. That said, Colonel Martyr, I'm not looking for your opinion. I stated I'm waiting for the input from everyone else on the share map, something you're not a part of, have never been a part of and don't appear to show any interest in being a part of. Just as I don't voice my opinions on the server, you really have no say in the shared map.

I know I'm not part of the rotation and what I say probably doesn't matter much but I have been reading all the posts on the situation and honestly it's getting pretty old. He already apologized and even said to go ahead and punish him if that's what you want. So just punish him already and move on. There's no need for all this drama.

I find having my minecraft in windowed mode improves the performance a little bit for some odd reason.
Food for thought.

In case you didn't know, I built an obsidian farming tower to help you save time. If you go into the nether portal tunnel you'll be able to find the gate that leads to it, as well as the ladder that leads to the area where you can collect lava.

All this Minedrama is getting to me. Also, I wish the song Calm4 was still in the game.

*scratches head*

All this drama will stop once the people on the shared map (including you, Fishy), say what they want to happen. It really is that simple. This argument seems so dramatic because not only are the people involved on the map not saying what they want to happen, but because people not involved in the map are getting in on it too. Everyone is making this way more complicated than it needs to be. If people would stop arguing with my opinion and instead state what their opinion is then we can get a consensus on what people want to happen and the argument will be over.

Antibody says: Some sort of punishment should happen
Mr. E says: Some sort of punishment should happen
Mrcrazy_monkey says: Some sort of punishment should happen
Nuck says: No punishment
the fishy wanderer says: ?
Webster says: ?
Anyone else I missed says: ?

Fill in the blanks guys. If you want the drama to end, instead of continuing to argue with me, state your opinion and leave it at that. Once everyone has stated their opinion then we can be done with this.

Could always listen to the phrase, "[censored] happens" and move on. I think he knows not to do that now, as well as everyone else. Would a punishment really do anything to help? Do what you folks want though.
