Update 1.6 has mounted combat!

Post » Thu Jun 14, 2012 11:25 am

Mounted combat you say? Oh, what is that?

The sound of the Dragonborn smiting enemies from the back of a really, really pissed off Horker from my wild beast riding mod?

YOU BET! Haters gonna hate. U mad, bandits?

Wait, really?

I demand a saber cat mount and he-man armor!

I don't see why magic would cause issues in the first place. If archery is possible, so is a fireball.

Sure, some could say I have no right to be upset because it's free, but if the government started giving out cheques for a 100 dollars US or CAD, but said "Hispanics, natives,Africans and Jews don't get anything sorry" there would be a huge outrage. Why? Not because they want $100, but they have been left out and now feel jealous while everyone else is having a grand ol' time. Same applies for Skyrim.
You're getting exactly the same thing everyone else is getting. The difference is that you don't want it and/or won't use it. Completely different scenario from the example you gave here.
Yeah it's not even remotely close to that. There are technical hurtles and differences between adding the use of certain types of combat. Not giving money to a certain people is just being a dike, here they have a lot of work to do to make it happen. Not really the same.

Oh hey look, absolutely useless updates that have no impact on gameplay because horses are horrendous.
 Don't you see? This makes them far less horrendous. Now they have far more use, since you don't have to demount to fight.

May I also note that it appeared that when dismounting during combat, that my horse ran and waited nearby, instead of fighting and dying!

You know what this means right?
Most, if not all, of the features in GameJam will be released via Patch.

This weird thing happens where you hit your enemy and all it does is push them into the air. :stare: It's happening a lot for me. I also wish that you could turn all the way around to shoot your bow.

You know, I was actually thinking. While it's a rather basic system, this does open up some doors in terms of gameplay and game events... I still have to adjust to making NPC's ride horses and controlling them then (Coming from Fallout modding, where there are no mounts), but I just may add some kind of horse fighting event or something... We'll have to see! :P

Wrong, its only useless to you because you dont use horses. By this thread alone, looks like many Skyrim players are going to enjoy this feature. Sorry for ya.
As far as looks, I think the horses look fine. I don't want them to look like a generic good looking horse model. It fits Skyrim just nicely. As far as riding the horse, the controls are terrible and it's not fun. After riding a horse in say, Assassin's Creed, it pales hugely in comparison. The fact that you can't backpedal is just not right. You can't even rotate your horse in one stationary spot. You have to run around in a circle to face the direction you want to. The mounted combat is a great feature they couldn't fit in for launch and they got it out. So that's good. They should really fix the controls and add a first-person mode for it now. I would love to ride me some horses.

Ranged and Melee mounted combat.... but magic was to much to ask.

Ahhh... quit griping, at least they added something.

Yeah, some weapons have almost none of these. I think it's mace or some two handed thingy but I only get 2 kill cams

What about balance?

In the past they said they skipped implementing horse combat because they were unable to balance it out, which is understandable.
Now? Did they even bother to balance it?

That was clearly just a load of bologna. They just didn't get around to it because they wanted their 11/11/11 so much.

Not really. I'm a mage, therefore I cannot benefit from this.

That's irreverent. You have the choice to play a character that would best take advantage of horse combat, but you choose not to. Completely different from everyone else being given something that is off limits to you, which is what you insinuated in your example earlier.

Im more excited for "Fixed issue where certain creatures and NPCs would fail to respawn properly"
Would this fix dungeons not respawning after being cleared?

Doesn't sound like Bologna, I mean you could have a huge advantage from horseback.
But are you saying it IS balanced? Like you've played it and can still get your butt kicked from horseback? How so?
