Nice. Now I wont have to wait until Jlist sells a translated version. Thats defintely one of the next VNs I play then.

Can you name a few you consider games ? I wouldnt mind trying them, allthoug I think I will prefer the character/story focused VNs.
Maybe when I get home so I don't get frustrated, but just searching vndb for ones with the adv tag will turn some up. adv stands for adventure and nvl is used to signify a pure VN.

I think this counts as both a game and a VN:
http://www.destructoid.com/review-sakura-wars-so-long-my-love-173330.phtml
Yeah... Im a tad distracted, by the cowgirl fighting mechs with a sword. (the [censored])

Shame its not on PC so I can play it.

@Defron Thanks for the tip. Didnt think vndb would split them apart like that.

It is far from foolproof as many aren't labeled and some are labeled for hanging a adv text dialog style, but it should give you an idea.

Just finished deardrops. (Sort of, I have no intention of playing Riho's path) It was a great VN, funny and I loved the characters.
I dont know any more VNs like that, hopefully you guys do. I want something funny and heartwarming. I looked for YU-NO but could find it, so thats out.
I am considering trying Edelweiss, Im not optimistic from what the preview tells me. But its made by the same people who made Kirakira and deardrops, so I will likely try it. If anyone has played it I would love to hear your thoughts on it.

So uh yeah, happy VN suggestions please.

I finally finished EVE Burst Error today, a VN that I started years ago and never finished. The fact that it was written by the same guy as YU-NO sparked my interest again, and I'm glad I went back to it, the story was very interesting.

Anyone know of any other good story (rather than character) based VNs?

I don't think I've played any, or at least any that don't have shallow characters and a lack of story. Shuffle or Da Capo maybe, but I don't remember either of them being particularly good.

I dont know if you played Kirakira and Deardrops, but I found them entertaining. It may not have the greatest story/characters, but it was enough for me and I enjoyed them alot. Im just looking for any stuff thats at their standard, becuase it was good enough for me.
Will look into the two you mentioned.

I've not played any in a while and since my main source of buying VNs went offline I haven't been purchasing many.

Particularly I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for importing VNs now besides the obivious middleman services. i've not found anything since Himeya went offline which is kinda sad :(

What about play-asia, jlist, or amazon.co.jp?

amazon.co.jp won't sell a lot of "advlt" content to US customers. play-asia cut out a lot of their offerins and I don't think jlist has any generic offerings, just their translated ones unless I'm mistaken.

From a quick search I see jlist has stuff like Little Busters and Clannad, so they probably have some other imports too.

Oh, that's good news. I thought they just carried their own games they license so I never even thought of using them

I have just finished ever 17.

What else even close to that ? It was great, the buildup was pretty slow. But then the last route.
Reccomend me some VNs that are as good as that. I dont care if its in Japanese and I need to go through it with a dictionary, one word at a time.

Psh, fans like me have long solved this problem by creating programs that hook the text from the program to your clipboard so you can use translation software.

Granted, it's clunky robot translation, but it's better than having to use a dictionary and at least does as good of a job as a novice could do at translating. ITH and Translation Aggregator are the current tools most favored (Translation Aggregator can use various translation services including ATLAS Japanese translation software (if you've purchased it)

Isn't there another one in that series? I think it was called Remember11.

I haven't finished Ever17 yet, so I don't know what's similar unless you elaborate on what it was you liked about it.

I will check the others out.

But I liked... Im not sure, I liked pretty much everything.
My only issue I suppose was the length and build up, you need to play all 4 routes to unlock another route. Then it all starts to click.
Until the last route I was confused, and some routes were pretty dull e.g Sora.

But I ignore that, becuase of the last route.

What's the theme/genre of the story? I've only played for a bit after picking the main character, so I don't really know much beyond that.

Its a mystery game. The stuff the game includes ranges from sane/realistic things in sci fi, to stuff thats just insane and confusing, more supernatural.
Atleast it confuses me, it made sense at the time... Sort of.

Hmm, sounds like the kind of VN that I like. I'll have to go back to it some time.

I've seen this game mentioned a lot in this thread, and today I noticed that http://store.steampowered.com/app/209370/ has been added to Steam. Usually a good thing for indie games, both for their popularity and their profits.

Got it on release, really enjoyed it. The art style can feel a little stark at times but it grows on you and you find yourself receptive to the dashes of colour that it provides. Interesting historical influence as well. Can just as easily save yourself the DRM though and get it straight from Love's site.

I noticed that. Havent played it yet, but while steam would save me money. I dont want to install it on my laptop.
I didnt install Mangagamer, it does the same thing as steam. Steam isnt needed, so I refuse to download it, for no damn reason.

I have a few VNs to read before anolouge.

Narmy if you like 999 you will like ever 17. I havent played 999 (no DS) but I hear they are similar.

I know, it's good exposure for the people who don't follow these types of games though. Do you have to play Digital first to understand this one?

I plan on playing Ever17, just haven't gotten around to it yet. I have it installed and everything.

It has nothing to do with Digital so you're good to jump straight in with anologue. :)
