NV Weapons

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 10:51 am

I honestly think that if New Vegas opened up F1, 2, and 3, and new weapons, the game would just be a bit washed up. You could hardly find a NV weapon in all of it. It would just feel weird fighting a gang of raiders where one enemy may carry a .32 and the other carring a Flame Gauss Sniper with a detachable scope or something. It may just end up being a jumbled mess

What enemy gets what weapon would be decided based apon corresponding level of the NPC, what weapons it's allied NPC's have, and the level of the PC at the time when the NPC is spawned. Each NPC would have a select equipment/loot list so I doubt we would see any idiot raider wearing a few hubcaps and a tire swinging the BFG9000 any time soon.

Partly why I think many people want weapons from all 3 games and new weapons is to get much more variety then in FO3. Face it, you ditched the Assault rifle the instant you got your hands on a working Chinese assault rifle, and I know my old 10mm pistol got pawned for some spare caps when I started lugging around enough weapons to arm a revolution. I had no actual reason to keep the American assault rifle because the Chinese rifle was more powerful and just as accurate while the 10mm, 33. revolver, and Chinese pistol had no actual use midway into the game for me. Each weapon should have it's own ups and downs so a player can choice exactly what he is looking for rather then the gun with the highest damage.

Technology advanced in a different path then our time line and they did make many advancements in weaponry, but that does NOT mean any suggestion for a weapon that was made after 1959 is a no go. Must I remind you Fallout 1 had the desert eagle and fallout 2 included the P90, XL70E3, H&K CAWS, Pancor Jackhammer, and the M60.

True and I would like to see those weapons as well P90, XL70E3, H&K CAWS, Pancor Jackhammer, and the M60. What I want are the weapons from Fallout tactics as well as weapons like the Bozar back. "http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Fallout_Tactics_weapons" The Bozar was a great weapon. Fallout universe can and should have the weapons from tactics and fallout 1 and 2 back in future games.

Don't get me wrong, Tactics had some great weapons. I would love to see the BAR or M79, but there were a few dumb ideas that came from that game, not to mention a few canonical errors (The Midwestern BoS was able to manufacture advanced power armor rivaling that of the Enclave back in 2241 how exactly?). I personally think Tactics shouldn't be considered canon, but like i said, there was plenty of great weapons from it that I would love to swing around in New Vegas.

Tactics at best is half canon. They did have some errors that conflict with canon but in all the story of there being a midwestern brotherhood should be canon along with Vault Zero and the calculator. (To me and alot of others those are canon) Most of the guns from Tactics sould be in future games. The melee weapons yea alot of them svck. To have the tactics weapons in New Vegas and fallout 4 would be great.

With a bit of reworking, then yeah I can see those points being canonical.

Back on track, It seems like just about everyone wants both new and old guns in F:NV I guess

Since from the trailer it looks like Vegas will be a more vibrant environment than the DC wastelands ?it's a hunch, and that it'll have an established upper, maybe a middle and certainly a lower class.

For the lower class I say throw them back to the medieval ages. One shot pipe-rifles for all calibers and cartridges because these weapons as built around an available munitions.
Spears, (cross)bows, baseball bat bats and other clubs, the ability to just throw a rock, either at someone's head or to divert them somewhere else.

Also the one shot derringer zip-guns for all pistol calibers.

Molotov cocktails that can be made to a variety of recipes that a character can obtain. Obviously the more potent mixes will require more exotic compounds to make.

Improvised weapons. The ability to grab *anything* and just batter someone with it.

Jury rigged. More junk-weapon stabbing and blunt trauma weapons available before the more exotic jury rigged weapons are available.

Middle class has access to the better class of shotguns and assault rifles and sniper rifles ?Chinese and domestic, as well as grenades, mines

Upper class has the best, energy weapons, "current" weapons that are from area 51 or something like that, with things like an M4/M203 being 'experimental' or only existing as a blueprint and requires many rifle parts and labour at a workbench to finally build. Thus also unique.

'kay, done now :)

That was my idea too, have a rustic kind of plain looking sniper rifle in .308 like http://www.gunsgamer.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/R700.png (looks better than the Springfield in my opinion)

And then have an advanced http://media.moddb.com/images/mods/1/11/10845/AS50-Demo.jpg that you could find in an abandoned fort or Area 51 like the guy above me said.

Throw in a Gauss Rifle and an Energy Sniper Rifle too.

This way every character can have the type of long range weapon they want.

Fallout 1, 2 and 3 weapons plus some new ones. I'd really like to see all the weapons to return from fallout 2 (well fallout 2 has all the weapons from fallout 1) I would also like to see more schematics in this one as fallout 3 didn't seem to have much choice for creating your own weapons, seemed lacking to me. Speaking of schematics I would like to see schematics for armor, I think it was odd that you couldn't create custom armor with schematics.

I voted for Fallout 1&2 weapons + new ones. I never really liked some of the guns in Fallout 3 compared to the ones in Fallout 1&2.

Fallout 2 Hunting Rifle > Fallout 3 Hunting Rifle

Fallout 2 City-Killer Shotgun > Fallout 3 Drum-Barreled Shotgun

I'd also love to see more low-class and junk weapons. Such as a hunting crossbow and maybe some World War I & II guns such as the Lee-Enfield and Tommy Gun. But I have no doubt a tommy gun will be in-game due to Pre-War Mafia and hotshot criminals abundance in the vegas area. Also, the M4 Assault Rifle from the New Vegas screenshots look awesome.

I pick OTHER: I want new weapons, weapons from every Fallout game, new ones, real world weapons and just a huge stockpile of weapons in Vegas. C'mon it's Vegas, it HAS running electricity and has hardly been bombed. There will have to be a big force of weapons ready to take Vegas.

i just saw the screenshots for the m4 look a like and a 9mm pistol!? wth.. i have no problem with the rifle, as long as it does'nt replace the old assault rifles, but what happened to 10mm?? i hope that the devs don't replace the 10mm for the 9mm.... on another note, i loved fallout tacticts, but i don't want real world weapons making it to the New Vegas game. (except tommy guns, desert eagle, or p90)

Would be nice if your bullets didn't pass through enemies outside of VATS, I hated that about F3. Let's hope Obsidian does a better job at it.

Sissors say snip
great list btw :goodjob:

but what about blueprints for different caliber pipe rifles and zipguns? I think its a bit strange that a home made pipe rifle will come in a 10mm but not .32, or .44 for that matter.

Another gun for the list.

snub nosed .38 special (make it a 10mm)

Thanks, I tried to get a blend of old guns and new ones, and some from previous Fallouts as well.

Yeah, I think pipe/zip/homemade guns should come in all ammo types and be craftable (but also sometimes found in the wastes too)
And yeah, I forgot the snub nose, maybe replace the AMT with that.

A Thompson-Center Contender with a short barrel, chambered in something obscene like 45-70 gov't with plus P ammo. Would make a beastly hand cannon and the reloads would look amazing.

I would like weapons from both all three numbered Fallout games and ones we haven't seen in Fallout before (this can be both real life weapons or fictional ones.) After all, all of the Fallout games are set in the same universe, so it only makes sense that guns which exist in one game would exist in others. Besides, variety is nice, so the more types of weapons they can conceivably put in the game, the better, and if the designs used in the game have already been used in previous games, it's a bit easier for the graphical designers as they don't need to design completely new weapons, they just need to take weapons that have already existed and create models that are high quality enough to be used in New Vegas. Maybe for Fallout 3 weapons, they'd even just use the same models, it's hard to say if New Vegas will actually use assets from Fallout 3 or if it's just the engine that was copied.

Of course, I highly doubt Obsidian will put every single weapon ever shown in the main series into the game, so it would just be a mixture of weapons from each of the games, using whichever ones the developers prefer, or feel would fit better in the game.

Of course, this only means there's a precidence for such weapons in the series, and despite what some seem to think, just because an idea was in the series from the start doesn't make it good.

However, I don't object to the real weapons made after the '50s in the earlier Fallout games, and I wouldn't object if they came back. It's not like the split means that every weapon ever developed after 1959 can't possibly have existed in the Fallout universe, besides, designing convincing fictional weapons to fill the niches of real weapons that look like they could actually serve the same function and don't look like they were designed by someone who knows nothing about guns and at the same time don't look like they're just copies of real guns by a different name is hard. Using real guns would be easier for the designers.
