NV Weapons

Slightly off topic:
The weapontypes aside, for a moment. I'd like a system that takes the characterskill into account more heavily regarding both wielding and general usage of the weapon. Having the need for a specific skill level to be able to adequately use certain guns.

For example, three categories: Low tech weaponry, medium tech weaponry and high tech weaponry.

Low tech: A collection of crude, postwar homemade weapons. Built from scraps and scavenged parts. Highly prone to jam during fire, easily broken down (though fairly easily repaired too, but needs some maintenance often), fairly inaccurate, high recoil and slow rate of fire - but packing a high punch, being highly modable, being cheap and the most available (ammo too) of the types. Usable at skill level: 1

Medium tech: Your standard homesecurity/army issue equipement. More reliable, more accurate, less easily broken, medium recoil, higher rates of fire and slower wearrate - but being slightly less modable, not as widely found, somewhat harder to come by and repair, more expensive and not doing quite as much damage. Usable at skill level: 40

High tech: Special forces/experimental weaponry. Highly accurate, high damage, slow wearrate, high reliability, lowest recoil - but very rare (both ammo and and weapon itself), very hard to repair, low recoil unmodable and very expensive. Usable at skill level: 70

Or something along those lines.

It would make the skillprogression more involving when you know that putting those 5 points in SG (which generally doesn't do [censored] for gameplay) gets you few steps closer to being capable of using better equipement. And it would also balance out the game, because the inablity to use the best straght from the beginning would make you to struggle a bit to get better.

I never much cared what 'era' the weapon was from. Killing things in Fallout has always been fun for me, whether the gun is some relic from the museum or a prototype right off the assembly line. While I do pray to god that New Vegas gets the sound and feel of the weapons right... I'm going to be happy with whatever loadout of weapons they give... so long as those weapons LOOK like they've been out in the wasteland.

Oh, and since I very likely will have to repair and maintain these weapons... how about another idea.

Give me a gun cleaning kit. Firing my rifle twice is not going to degrade it so badly that I need to change out the barrel from some scrap gun lying around. It might mean I ought to clean it out a bit. Take that sort of thing into consideration, and I'll be glad with whatever gun I have.

I had that same idea for a gun cleaning kit :P I posted it back before we had the New Vegas Posting option. I am glad to see others have the same idea. :)

As long as I have-
Full-Auto Shotgun (CAWS, PANCOR JACKHAMMER)
Burst-Fire Assault Rifle (M16A4)
A Scopeless Revolver (.44 Magnum)
SCOPED.HUNTING.RIFLE. I LOVED THIS THING WHY WASN'T IT IN FALLOUT 3 RAUAAAGHAGSdhiwbvlwbrq2l.
Some sort of auto laser rifle. I want a laser SMG.
Any of those would be good.

It's not a laser. The Gauss Rifle should really be a "small gun," as it fires a metal slug. It's just powered by microfusion cells.

I preferred the old 2mm EM cartridge for Gauss Rifles. Hard to find... but at least it wasn't an Energy Weapon. Sigh.

Personally, I'd like a load of guns, named ones as well. I don't mean real-world guns, but not 'ASSAULT RIFLE', maybe like R91 for your standard Assault Rifle, or AK-112 for the Fallout 2 Assault Rifle. It's more immersive than 'Assault Rifle', and I like a variety with ups and downs rather than the CAR being better than the R91.

Well, I really don't care that much. Also, the Big Gun with the TV screen in the mags? Thats an upgraded Minigun.

I vote NV weapons.

gauss rifle is the same thing as a laser rifle?? since when? their could be another energy sniper, what's wrong with that? besides, the gauss rifle used to be in the small guns category in fallout 1 and 2

I'm not saying that there can't be more than one, and in the present It's an Energy Weapon. Plus I still think that the Gauss Rifle makes more sense as an Energy Weapon.

I always considered an Energy Weapon as something that SHOT a projectile made of 'energy' (wow, that didn't sound retarded) as opposed to something solid. So, the Gauss Rifle would be a small gun as it fires a metal...Thing at high velocity via magical magnets and stuff rather than a beam of light.

It uses no gunpowder though which in my mind makes it an Energy Weapon.

Its more about the TYPE of damage a weapon does. Since Gauss gun fires a metal object, very fast, and its rifle sized, it is a Small Arm. I suppose thats the logic there. Firing it is more similar to firing a rifle than a laser rifle.

I think a AK-47 would be nice, high damage, high durability, low accuracy, and very common. It was finished in 1947 so I don't think canon would be a problem. I know its in almost every game but it is the most well known and widely used gun in the world.
