In America you're pretty much stuck with terrible beer (lager) or slightly less terrible beer (craft beer), so good thing you don't drink indeed.

There is alcohol that isn't beer. Shocking development I know.

I'd say something on topic but it's all already been said.

EDIT: Missed a word

What do hipsters do?

They borrow from every other sub culture that has come before them taking small parts of the dress, music, and ideology from each and form a bastardized cultural group that shouldn't even been given the respect of being referred to as a sub culture.

People hate them because, in essence, they are posers. All style, no substance.

Hipster chicks sure can be hot though.

Some good laughs in this thread

Hipsters are basically the same as emos.. In that a few years ago people wouldn't shut up about emos and now people wont shut up about hipsters.

Oh and alcohol snobs who hate on PBR are actually hipsters too they just don't know it. You think real hipsters are still drinking that stuff? I don't care what people say I'll still drink it from time to time.. it tastes much better on vinyl though

You gotta wait until October and then buy yourself 3 cases of Sam Adams Octoberfest.

Unless you drink often, that should last you until next October.

3 cases last roughly...3 weeks. Or 3 nights, really, but I can only go out Saturday nights generally :P

Also - Louse "It tastes much better on vinyl though", that tickled me.

And yeah, bloody beer hipsters. (Never encountered PBR, I'm assuming it's like the Carling/Fosters of the UK)

I believe hipsters were the bastard spawn of artists and designers. A lot of artists and designers sadly fall into the hipster category because they have a rather..uhh..unique sense of fashion.

They also fuel themselves on coffee (theres a stigma with Starbucks and hipsters) and use macs because its appropriate to do so.

As a designer, I have coffee running into my bloodstream every 3 hours but so does anyone so that doesn't make me a hipster. I have 2 macs and I also have 2 PCs for gaming and mobility..

In regards for a hipsters disregard for mainstream -- i'm absolutely against that notion. The mainstream inspires me as it shows how things can have a global impact if they're smart, creative or catchy. Great design is being able to communicate on the highest level, and that level is mainstream. Its something I hope i'll achieve in the future.

I feel your pain. I remember almost wanting to switch to anover course in university because of the astounding amount of hipster douches on my course just sitting around whining about the most trivial crap. As for coffee, I like it but I prefer energy drinks since i'm more partial to cold drinks. As for starbucks, I avoid it simply because of the whole "Venti, Grande, whatever" words they use instead of the uniformally accepted "Small medium or large."

I also agree with the manstream notion, I love to see how social media can be used to make astounding but effective viral marketing. Really inspirational stuff. But hipsters would have me sit and stare at a puddle.

One thing I have noticed about Hipsters is they always pretend to love bourban/whiskey/scotch and tend to drink it in public but never have I once seen one drink it with satisfaction let alone hold it down.

I thought it was all about skinny jeans and wearing those big Woody Allen type glasses?
I don't know, my city isn't really fashionable/artsy enough to have a real population of hipsters.

pretty much, dont forget the flaxen chest hair poking out from a v-neck tshirt.

And if you want to educate yourself on what a hipster is, read http://www.cracked.com/funny-4573-hipster/
Watch http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0162346/ (if your brave enough.)
and read every comic strip on http://questionablecontent.net/

Why do hipsters drink it? Because it's cheap? That's the only reason I drank it when I was over there, you could get 30 of them for about 20 bucks.

I am amazed so much thought has been put into a term that I never hear spoken by anyone, and only read on the internet.

(Fixed)

It's about a 30 pack for $18 bucks where I am. In any case, for those who said that hipsters don't drink PBR anymore, what do they drink? Red Stripe?

I am the 2%. Oh wait, by going against your quote, I am then deemed a hipster. :ahhh:

^Brilliant, its true though; its this culture of 'Hipsters' and 'Indie Kids', it seems that today 'Non-Conforming' is to Conform. At least 80 percent of my home town are supposedly not conforming

That sounds awfully convoluted.
You must confront their mass-conformist ways with...I don't know, cornflakes maybe.

I don't know how it is in the states or other countries but I guess over in the UK it stems from the tidal wave of experimental or 'indie' bands all over NME each week...the image at least. I may be wrong

There are tons of what 'Being a [censored]'s Cool' describes as hipsters, but I talked [censored] to a few who were dead drunk, and were cool people. We've even arranged to make a Human Centipede when I next go down there.

I dunno about hipsters. I'm sure there are [censored]s in the hipster community, otherwise the stereotype wouldn't exist, but I've yet to meet some who fit the pompous stereotype.

They pretend to be ridiculous-looking trousers that were popular in the 1970s. I can see why that would upset people.

snip for sake of sanity

YOU ARE A BAD PERSON AND BAD THINGS WILL HAPPEN TO YOU.

Yeah, can we *not* have 'Human Centipede' in any shape-, form-, function-, or any other way depicted, while in the same sentence paragraph post thread vocabulary as what you may or may not be going down on, -with, -at or -when.

There are kids here, man!!

perv.. <_<

I don't really get this human centipede thing: is it some guy with lots of legs? Or maybe a bit like a human mudcrab? Not that I'm sure what a human mudcrab would do differently from a mudcrab mudcrab. Eat pies and try to avoid the auto-censor, I suppose.
