What do you want in New Vegas

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:30 pm

Yeah, Damage Threshold. Hopefully it will be back in Fallout: New Vegas :)

I've been thinking a bit about this and a very easy way to implement something similar to Damage Threshold is by using the currently existing feature of 'Normal Weapon Resistance'. We had this feature in TES4:Oblivion where an opponent could be partially/fully resistant to normal weaponry. Not entirely sure if the 'Weakness to Silver' has also been retained (or if that one was only in TES3:Bloodmoon).

At any rate, these two types of weaknesses/resistances could be implemented quite easily to provide a form of Damage Threshold. Power Armor could have a 'hidden ability' in that it provides 100% Resistance to Normal Weapons. So all the devs would need to do is put a checkmark on specific (powerful) weapons to make them the equivalent of 'Magic' or 'Daedric' weapons; and as such being able to penetrate (for instance) Power Armor. The rest of the weapons would be completely ineffective against such armor.

If the 'Silver Damage' is also still present in the G.E.C.K. (as it is a modified TESCS after all); you could even have a more diverse way to handle things. Maybe even utilize both features so some weapons would have a normal effect (5mm Minigun); whereas others would be highly effective (Plasma maybe?).

This would translate as weapons like the 10mm pistol (that would not have the checkbox) to be completely useless against an opponent in Power Armor. However, the Minigun (that could have the checkbox) would still be effective. Plasma weapons (that could have both the 'Bypasses Normal Weapon Resistance' and 'Silver' checkboxes) could have an increased effective capability to penetrate Power Armor.

Just throwing it out here, as a lot of people had been discussing the term 'Damage Threshold'; so (after my cup of coffee) tried to find an easy and effective way to implement a similar mechanic by using existing options. :P

But in short, I too want to have Damage Threshold back. This would force a player to actively change weapons depending on the type of opponent in the game and not killing everything (including opponents in Power Armor) with a simple pistol or Nailboard. ;)

Okay I've got some serious problems with Fallout 3, and they are important factors too a good game...

_______________________________Iron Sights______________________________________________________
Okay guys you know how in Fallout 3 you always hold your gun like Rambo? Well when you look down the barrel of a gun there is a sight, made of iron, an *iron* sight. In real life this takes away the guess work of guns, in real life you could never hold a gun to your stomach and guess the trajectory (like in Fallout 3) and nail someone in the head with a bolt-action rifle from more than ten meters away unless your lucky, and I've got a hard time believing I'm the luckiest guy to play Fallout 3.
_______________________________V.A.T.S. "Matrix"__________________________________________________
It would be nice if you could choose how you view kills in V.A.T.S., I almost never get to see the camera locked on the bullet.
_______________________________Other____________________________________________
_______________
I found that the array of weapons in Fallout 3 left much to be desired. The combat shotgun is basically a replica of a WORLD WAR TWO *NOT THREE*

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p424/Shpeshell/ppsh-41.jpg
The real noticable difference if the grip of the weapons, the rest is pretty similar.
My point? A good half of the weapons in Fallout 3 look OLDER than the ones today. The alien blaster looks like a toy! Try putting some real effort into making them look advanced! I want my star wars!

If the devolpers walk away with one word from this post.

PHUCHUR3ST3C!

Um, doesnt your character look down the iron sights when you aim? I'm pretty sure if you aim, and hit 3rd person view, you can watch your character raise the weapon to his shoulder and look down the iron sights.

On topic, I'd like to see the .223 pistol from the first 2 games make a comeback.

I'd like to see some stuff from the first 2 games. Maybe a return to some locations. Hopefully Shady Sands/NCR/whatever it has evolved into. The Hub, Broken Hills, or V13. Maybe run into Marcus, as he could still be alive. Or some Vault Dweller/Chosen One decesendents.

Lastly, I'd like to have the location waypoints removed from the map if you don't know where they are. In the first 2 games, you don't really know where anything unless you talk to people about it. It made sense in the end of the game when you got the Vault locations from the computer in the Citidel, but I was like, why did I need to do that when other stuff was just available on the map as soon as I heard about it? Maybe this could be implemented for hardcoe mode.

And I too would like a pump action shotty.

If you were to do Threshold the way it used to feel like (because im not certain how the old school games really did it mechanics wise), I believe it would have to have 3 "classes" of thresholds.

- Unarmored (nothing, or plain clothes) or Light Armor (Leather Armor, raider armor, recon armor, etc). All Light Armor would do is add some DR, but wouldn't add any real threshold. Certain attacks should be extra effective vs these targets (flechette rounds, claymores, fire dmg, etc)
- Armored (Metal armor, combat armor, Tesla Armor [from FO2/FOT]) This should be the step where the smallest weapons start to lose real potency, they should still be able to hurt you, but only just barely, if at all. Switchblades, 10mm, pipe rifles, etc, should have very little effect on these. While they can be taken out with (i.e. take normal damage from) other standard ordinance (high powered rifles, grenades, heavy shotguns, etc), they should take extra damage from anti-armor weapons
- Power Armor (BoS PA, Enclave PA, Tesla PA [FO3]) - At this level, most standard munitions should be completely ineffective, and require special ordinance or anti-armor weapons to take down. AP rounds, stunning weapons (super sledge, the way it should have been done?), plasma weapons, etc.

I'm speaking strictly from how the armor has been related and described through out all the games. The progression finally got down pretty well towards FO2/FOT. Getting your first leather armor was always awesome because you could take on tribals, radscorpions, street punks, etc a lot easier. Your first metal armor was always awesome because you could take on real contenders, people with good working old world weapons; high end versions of it could even be used until end game. Power Armor always made you feel invincible, like you could...walk into a guarded oil rig full of enclave soldiers in power armor and a fleet of vertibirds, electrified floor panels and stupidly powerful auto-turrets....and walk out of there alive.

And I want the Stealth Armor and Gauss Riffle the main game, right from the beginning...not as DLC...they were the two things I was most looking for in F3...

Hey all, first post here.

First of all, I am overjoyed that Bethesda has given Obsidian an opportunity to make a Fallout game, since I did not like Bethesda's approach to the franchise. But this is not the point here, I will not go into a whine-fest or try to convince anyone to my point of view.

Anyways, not to go off-topic. The thing that I'd like to see in New Vegas are REVOLVER RIFLES. Fallout always had unique weapons (.223 & 10mm pistols as the most iconic), so I figured that it should remain so. What do I mean by revolver rifles? Let me give some examples:

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2009/10/19/kbps-new-mts-225-tactical-revolver-shotgun/

Now that is not only cool, it also fits the setting perfectly. I'd like to see it instead of sawed-off \ pump-action shotguns, because they are horribly common in every shooter out there. I guess only Mass Effect didn't have it. Anyways, other one:

http://world.guns.ru/rifle/rfl20-e.htm

Not exactly a *revolver* rifle, but close enough. Overall, I'd like to see as little real world-like weapons as possible. For example, the Assault Rifle in-game that looks like M4\M16 needs to go. Please put some effort into making the game's world unique, instead of doing "Fallout versions" of what we see every day. References are cool, blatant rip-offs are not. I don't want to play a post-apocalyptic Call of Duty with Super Mutants and vault suits, I want a world that I will be able to recognize instantly not only by the long-present things like the Vault Boy. The franchise need to go forward, not circle around the same stuff all the time.

Wheatstone, what gun are you referring to that looks like the M4/M16? other than that, join the wonderful bandwagon of people wanting better quantity and more unique weapons for FNV. Me personally, I want to see a revolver rifle or shotgun, w/ break action goodness for quick reloads. That second one you linked was pretty interesting too, but I would LOVE to see that first one in a break action.

Well I saw a picture of the PC firing at Tabitha (wigged Super Mutant) from an Assault Rifle that looks precisly like the M4 Carbine in the OXM magazine. Can't post any kind of scans\links to them, so you gottta buy that issue to see it. Also, I agree that break action would be friggin' awesome.

A town of Friendly Super Mutants.

Acky town.

for the rest, simple climbing.. GTA:SA styled pulling oneself up one story to the next one.
proper ladder animations

and Acky town. :D

and although I'm running a one man campagne here..

Wayne Newton!

I know it won't happen, but I can't give up now..
pweese, just a small cameo
maybe the smallest voice acting role..
danke sch?n on a radio somewhere.. (it would fit the setting perfectly)

I'm becoming annoying with this, aren't I?

1. I fell in love with the 10mm pistol. I know it's the first real gun you get in FO3, but I continued to use it right up til level 10 or so. I would like to see a better 10mm pistol this time.

2. Stands or dummies on wich to display armor and/or weapons

3. More realistic bullet damage ergo you don't waste an entire clip into somethings head and have it still walking around.

4. Armor pieces. Gloves, helmets, body armor, boots and thigh protectors. Not just 1 generic term like Leather armor covering the whole body.

5. If we can't get vehicles in FO:NV then at least while we're hoofing it let us run faster. In FO3 everywhere you went was a light jog!

6. H2H combat. If I train in the martial arts I would like to be able to kill something bare handed, without hitting it 500 times.

An odd wish list I'll admit, but that is the biggest complaints I have from previous games. Thanks for reading.

We all know that certain doors will be locked and you have to pick them.
Occasionally you will mess up the lock pick and the door will be jammed .
Might be worth having an option to "attempt to kick the door down" if your character is strong enough.
if we're dealing with a basic wooden door in a regular building.

Well if it's any consolation, they didn't put that one in the game to my knowledge. There are a few others that are pretty close ripoffs, namely the Chinese Assault rifle is just an AK-47, the mag .44 is obviously a mag .44, and the combat shotty is based after an old school WWII drum style shotty, which I thought was pretty cool actually. Personally, I miss my old pipe rifle from FO2, nothing like saying hello to civilization with a pipe strapped onto a broken stock, breachloading single 10mm shots at a time.

Yeah, I remember killing all the Geckos around the still with the pipe rifle.

I'd like for the pipe rifle to make a return, if just for the challenge of finishing the game with it.

well that would explain it. :) I thought you were talking about bethesda's approach to the franchise, so therefore FO3.

On another note though of things I want in NV, it's pretty specific, but I would love to see the old "critical hit with a burst weapon w/ bloody mess" animation make a comeback. Watching an enemy convulse and shudder from the staggering amount of bullets shredding his corpse, then fall to his knees like a wet sack of hamburger was always satisfying.

1. h&K416 and custom 1911A1s please. Only real-world weapons I want other than an uber railgun. After all, what better way to break up with someone than sending a metal spike at someone's head at 300 MPH?

Fawkes can reproduce??? :P

I would like to see more varied settlements, there was only tenpenny tower, megaton and rivet city in F03, and one of them became a crater after a bad choice.

I would like to see Area 51, and any other well known locations, like the casino strip and the like.
