What do you want in New Vegas

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 7:07 am

Next up: stuff I would like to see because it's Vegas.

1) Vegas styled weaponry and armor - mob style weapons (tommy gun, billy club, bloody shovel, deringer, etc), and vegas inspired craftable weapons, instead of a bottlecap mine, maybe a casino chip mine now? Turn those old water fountain show pipes into one mean water cannon...watch a super mutant stumble by with a roulette wheel for a chestplate, etc.

2) Old west stuff. it's the desert. Before nevada had neon lights, gambling and women, it had....cowboys, gambling, and women... :) I want to see horses, revolvers, lever action rifles, cowboy hats, the whole bit. If you took vegas, and stripped it of infrastructure and technology, it would be the wild west again, only worse.

3) Area 51. You know you wanna...just do it.

Good ideas, though I'm not sure what to say about the mob weaponry, the shovel and a thompson would be good additions, maybe the thompson could replace the assault rifle. And just a heads-up, most of Nevada is still kinda Old West-ish, aside from the actual cities, it is mostly desert and grazing land-desolate, but totally agree with number 2. For the last one, yes, Vegas banks on the idea that Area 51 is where aliens are held, but that is not really the common acceptance of what we Nevadans think is in Area 51. We mostly believe that it is more a weapons test facility, it has researched such weapons as the atomic bomb and the SR-72, either way, Area 51 should be included in the game.

- I'd like to see more improvised and homemade weapons. After all, everyone can't have 200 year old fully functional firearms. I'd love to see some firearms built by people from parts of other weapons, like you grab a few parts of that assault rifle, a few parts of that sniper rifle, something from the 10mm SMG, cooling system from a laser pistol, a conductor and some duct tape or wonderglue and voil? - a homemade firearm!

So... a few of these, ranging from single-shot, bolt-action to semi- and full-automatic.

- And also something like a handgranade, like that http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/fallout/images/5/5e/MasonJarMine.pngwhich was a concept weapon for Fallout 3. Mason Jar Mine it was called, but it could easily be made as a grenade if the fuse is shortened.

The culture is 50s, not the tech, the tech is just inspired by the Golden Age of "Science!". Auto turrets were in FO3 so I guess it's MW2.

i am saying that the technology they don't have really good technology that we have today, aka cellphone they barely have computers they just have terminals. yes they are auto turrets but would he wouldn't be saying he wants the auto turrets in fo3 because they are already there? he is obviously talking about a more technological auto turret, such as the setry gun in MW2

Realistic prostatuting, striping, and six. And more options for it including strip shows and some type of six scence.

if they do that they would probably do some like GTA IV like if you have six you dont see it but hear it kinda thing, and same with the strip club but idk if they are gonna do the lap dance like in GTA IV but ya

Not gonna happen.

"When looking closely at the sales chart supplied by GfK Chart-Track, 55 percent of Fallout 3 sales were on the Xbox 360, 28 percent on the Sony PS3, and the remaining 17 percent on PC".

Those charts wont include virtual sales such as Steam, Impulse, D2D and others.

And if Fallout would be PC only exlusive they could make it like it should be made. Yeah I understand these things better than most people, since I study game development and we discuss lot about these subjects at the school.
PC gaming still holds simulation and strategy games tight, and those games will never work well on consoles which are made easy to use for wide markets.

But in my opinion, the most RPG's should be made mainly for PC and afterwards ported for consoles. This gives developers more raw power and resources to work with. Sure consoles have their own strengths. Example they are
all alike, there is millions of diffirent PC setups, but modern consoles have same hardware on them. This makes games easier to develop and sell for larger masses.

But at the end PC stands out as most flexible platform for game. Even if the PC market is smaller compared to current console sales. Although I would choose PC as primary platform and develop the console version based on that.

Anyway, this is only my opinion. No offence for console users :)

I kinda agree with the vehicles part... heres what i think would be cool: Like the time where u find dogmeat,u can find a trashed, rusted golf cart. it will be missing some parts that u can find by talking to the owner of the new scrapyard

Owner: Well, a Visitor! what is someone like you doing in a place like this?

You: i was just wondering around and noticed the flipped golf cart. Does it work?

Owner: that old thing? Na that hasnt been up and runnin in years.

You: Oh. Well that svcks.

Owner: Hmm you seem like my kinda person. Let me make you an offer. THeres a Destroyed hardware store near here that might just have the parts you need to fix it yoursef. Or if your not too handy with a wrench you can bring me the parts and ill do it for ya, but that will cost extra.

You: How much are we talkin for the whole thing?

Owner: 1000 caps for the cart and lets say 100 caps for the repairs if you cant do it yourself. Now remember, you wont all the parts. just the important ones.

You: Sound like a deal. Now where is this hardware store?

Owner: Just north of here. You cant miss it.

You: Ok ill check it out. Thanks

You go into the hardware store and search the building for any useful parts such as these: Headlights, tires, a rusted trunk, sheet metal (to put onto the sides for some damage resistance while driving), bottle of nos(which can be found all over the wastlend much like ammo), and maybe some fluffy dice to hang on the mirror. You return with the parts and purchase the cart. You put hte parts together with the cart (repair skill 70) or pay the owner to put it together.

Owner: Youve made an old man happy seeing that peice of junk runnin again. Linsten, if it ever needs repairs, just drive it down here and ill repair it. no charge. Oh and heres a free bottle of NOS. you dont need it but it will give it a little kick. Try not to inhale any though, it will mess you up. now while your havin fun with your sweet ride, im guna go gamble my caps!

You: Hey wait is that trunk of any use?

Owner: sure is. it can hold some of your stuff. but dont overload it with all your stuff, that cart cant hold too much weight or it might just be goin so slow youd be faster walkin. id say 50 pounds is enough for a little thing like that.

You: ok cool ill remember that.

PERK: GOLF PRO: (intellegence 50 Repair 80) you have made permanent anhancments to your golf cart. It now can carry 100 pounds instead of 50 an any NOS bottle you find will last twice as long. you will also have a 20% chance to not get addicted to NOS.

NOS effects: Charisma + 50, intellegence - 30.

SO WHAT DO U GUYS THINK? GOOD OR BAD AND WHY?

oh and heres another idead for a SPECIAL attribute: Atractiveness

i wouldnt mind drug effects. Booze could make the screen slowly wobble around, Jet could create little movement streaks along the sides of the screen, Buffout could kind of squeeze the screen in as though one were squinting.

That'd be pretty sick

wow i totally agree. That is pretty sick. if u read my other comment i put, u would see that you could get addicted to NOS wich could give the screen a "Fish eye effect" (i think thats what its called) Great ideas dude

Attractiveness can't be a SPECIAL attribute. I don't know if you know this, but SPECIAL is an anagram:

Strength
Perception
Endurance
Charisma
Intelligence
Agility
Luck

If you added another A, we would have SPECIALA, and that's just stupid.

If you called it something other than NOS and made it considerably less strong Like if you divided the effects by 10 to get Charisma + 5, Intellegence - 3, it might kind of work. But generally drugs will improve a kind of Personality stat and hurt a Physical stat or vice versa.

Booze might increase Charisma but decrease Agility or perhaps a different form would Increase Strenght/Endurance but decrease Intelligence/Charisma.

So if NOS is basically Speed it might Increase Agility/Strength/Endurance but Decrease Charisma/Intelligence/Perception.

Also Attractiveness is pretty much contained within Charisma

S-Strength
P-Perception
E-Endurance
C-Charisma
I-Intelligence
A-Agility
L-Luck

Bottle Cap Mine
Nuka Grenade
Rock-It Launcher
Dart Gun
Railway Rifle
Deathclaw Hand Thing (I call it The Claw, ohh nooo its The Claw!)

6

I wouldn't mind something like a gold plated AK47 equivalent (not actually an AK) if it were either locked up under one of the casinos or being used by someone who had the money to afford one and was properly narcissistic to actually get it.

Vance has one. Other than that, you have to make one. You can get schematics from Vance or Lucky Harith.

Some of the things I'd like to see change involve criticism of some of Bethesda's design decisions on Fallout 3. I want to make a disclaimer that I enjoyed Fallout 3, and while I am a fan of the first two Fallout games (as well as Wasteland, the precursor of the series), I'm not one of the old-school fans that decided to automatically hate Fallout 3 because Bethesda decided to make it more of an FPS than the original games. So, things I'd like to see:

1. Really powerful power armor. It kinda bugged me that power armor was hardly better than regular armor in FO3. I think it should be extremely powerful like it was in FO1/2, and then some tech should be made available (in the form of weapons or other gadgets) that are specifically designed to counter power armor. For example, armor piercing ammo and allowing EMP grenades/mines to slow down or paralyze people wearing it. If an EMP grenade can stun a robot it would make sense that it would cause power armor to malfunction as well.

2. Less watered-down game mechanics. I didn't like the way Bethesda simplified the game mechanics from the original games. For example, directly tying weapon skills to a specific attribute does simplify things, but I feel like it's a pretty contrived way to make certain attributes important. In FO1/2, accuracy with most weapons was determined by weapon skill and Agility, with Strength determining whether or not your character was strong enough to use the weapon effectively and Perception determining how much accuracy dropped off as distance to the target increased as well as how good you were at aiming in the dark. To me this makes a lot more sense than, say, tying Small Guns to Agility and Energy Weapons to Perception.

3. Damage types and armor penetration. It would be great for some types of weapons and ammo to penetrate armor better than others. Some weapons could be deadly against unarmored opponents, but not very effective against armored foes. These would require more specialized weapons and/or ammo to penetrate their defenses. I'd also love to see various damage types that are more or less effective versus certain targets or targets with certain types of protection. For example, metal armor would be very effective against piercing and slashing attacks, but less effective against ballistic attacks, and make the wearer very vulnerable to electrical attacks.

4. A grittier environment and a darker mood. While I really liked the way Bethesda used the retro-'50s art style, I think they over-did it. It worked really well in some places, but others felt like an old Tom and Jerry "world of tomorrow" cartoon. Some areas came off as entirely too goody-goody. A lot of NPCs and places were also a little too friendly, too happy, and generally not angry, rude, or inhospitable enough. The mood is supposed to be bleak with a smattering of dark humor here and there. A lot of the time I didn't get that feeling from Fallout 3. I'd like to see a little less, "hey, how's it going, friend?" and a little more, "what the #$&*@ are you doing in my house? You've got 10 seconds to get out before it starts raining lead." More brutality and less contentment as a general rule. I'd also like to see more opportunities to royally screw things up. In Fallout 3 I felt like there was very little I could do that would cause me to fail in my tasks.

5. Less "good guys vs. bad guys." I'd like to see more opportunities to be a jerk than just one or two major decisions. I'd also like to see less of a "good vs. evil" dynamic between major factions. Most people are trying to survive and/or make a power grab...not be cookie-cutter heroes or villains.

6. More depth to companions. I know that companions were added as an afterthought in Fallout 3, so they weren't fleshed-out very well. I'd like to see more background and interaction when it comes to people that can join you. Think Bioware, but maybe a tad less integral to the game. It'd also be nice to see some joinable NPCs that can do more for you than just shoot. That way their skillset and its synergy with your own become a consideration when choosing a companion.

7. More options for tech and science characters. How about giving science characters something to do with their smarts besides a few dialog options here and there? Maybe let them find schematics for things only they can use that offset the fact that they didn't spend as much time developing weapon expertise? Example: some kind of high-tech device that allows them to take control of robots...or the ability to build robotic drones to fight for them.

8. More diversity between characters. In Fallout 3 most characters end up being roughly the same by the time you hit the max level. I'd like to see more difficult character development decisions that result in more specialized characters. That way every playthrough would result in a unique character with a unique set of abilities. It also helps to create more of a personal connection to your character because he/she has built a unique character development "narrative" in an organic way.
